DISmoms Gone WILD!!!!! A trip to WDW w/out the KIDS!!!10/6 Updates p.36 FINISHED!

While Ellen and Lonnie were finishing up with their spa day, Kara and I were finishing our drinks at the ASMus pool bar and then headed out to catch the bus to DTD.

Now this is one of my complaints about the value resorts - lovely and a great value, but I guess Disney doesn't feel the need to spring for COVERED bus stops. I mean really? We are left to bake out in that hot Florida sun waiting for the bus? Where's the awning? Where's the benches? :snooty:

Kara tried to soak up the rays while we waited...........

Soon we were at DTD, and heading to the Margarita Bar. As Ellen described, it was INSTANT bonding - margaritas all around!

Next stop.......................

Love how the word "Fulton's" got cut off in this pic!;)

DSC04729.jpg

And when in Fulton's, one must indulge in the POP ROCKS MARTINI:

DSC04730.jpg

The bartender puts the poprocks in the glass first, then pours the martini - causing poprocks to fly all over. I swear, we were picking them out of our hair all through the night! I've been here before when they've unfortunately have been OUT of the poprocks! Seriously, HOW can you have a PopRocks martini on the menu and NOT have Poprocks? So, yes as Ellen mentioned, I went to an old-time candy store by me in Mass. and stocked up on poprocks. If Fulton's didn't have them, I will provide!

Also brought the light-up Tinks!

DSC04732.jpg

Kara really likey! This is what she looks like after just ONE!

Our bartender Tony was THE BOMB! He was totally getting a kick out of us. And when we pulled out our kids on a stick, I thought he was going to fall over laughing. He thought they were the greatest! And actually, he came up with the idea of sticking them in the freezer display counter with the shellfish.....................

DSC04734.jpg

DSC04735.jpg

So funny!

Ellen and Lonnie had to leave us to make their dinner ADR at AKL while Kara and I lingered for a little while longer. We JUST had to get a pic with our new buddy!

DSC04737.jpg

DSC04736.jpg

We left our new friend Tony - who made us promise to please come back and look for him again - and headed out to our next stop: dinner at Raglan Road, where Kara sees something she really likes - and it's NOT on the menu!:lovestruc ;)

Aaaah - Kara! You snuck in your post before me!

I don't have time right now to continue with my posts from our dinner at Raglan Road but I will leave you with this little teaser.

Here's what Kara was drooling over all night (and NO - it's not the Bread Pudding! Although now that I think about it Kara - that caramel sauce would go just perfectly with this "dish". ;) ).........................

Ok girls - I desperately need to get my big ol'butt to the gym. Will be back this afternoon to finish posting about our first night!

OMG Cammie! I'm gonna kill you for that picture!!!! I may be the crazed DIS stalker next time you see me!!!! :rotfl2:

OMG Cammie! I'm gonna kill you for that picture!!!! I may be the crazed DIS stalker next time you see me!!!! :rotfl2:

Just wait until I post the pix I took of you sleeping!;)

JK. JK.

Besides, have you seen what I look like in some these shots?

ASmu looks really fun! I'd stay there, no problem!! I remember when I got the cocktail pix on my phone from C & K that I was sitting at the SSR pool waiting for Loni to finish up with her massage after I had finished with mine...those drinks looked really good even on a cell phone screen! I was jealous!!

Ok- so we were at DTD, looking for the Margarita stand and Cammie & Kara- we got a table and Loni went to look at the menu, when there they were!!!:banana: It was sooo exciting!!! Lovely Cammie and crazy Kara all ready to drink!!! I have to say, this was the most awesome thing- that right from the very start, it was like we were just seeing people we had seen a million times before...it was so comfortable, so easy right away. We all just meshed. Even for Loni, and she didn't know them at all!! We just all started drinking Ritas and chattin' it up. I just KNEW this was going to be a fantastic vacation!!:dance3: So...after a margarita or two, we made our way over to Customer Relations so Lonnie and I could purchase our very 1st AP's!!!:woohoo::woohoo: To say I was excited is an understatement! Buying that pass, and knowing how much I'm going to be using it is the GREATEST feeling!! I also got the TIW card, and I KNOW I will be wearing that sucker out.

Our next stop was for...well, what do you think? Pop Rocks martinis at Fulton's! Cammie was very prepared- she even had her own stash of pop rocks just in case they were out at Fulton's! AND she had an entire BAG O' TINKS to hang off the glasses. Gotta love a girl who comes prepared with her own cocktail accoutremonts!

Shaken, not stirred...

Ok, you can't see them popping too much in this round, but when we had the NEXT round of martinis, it was like fireworks!!
2009_052006summer0045.jpg

Thanks, girlfriend for turning us on to such an awesome cocktail!!

2009_052006summer0047.jpg

That bartender was a blast- I know C & K have photos of his face- if you go in and see him, please tell him the moms with the stick kids all say hello!!

2009_052006summer0043.jpg

We were getting a little hungry, so Cammie asked for some of that yummy crab dip- I have to say, the crab dip is a waaaaayyy better bar snack than peanuts....Fultons ROCKS!!

Unfortunately, Lonnie and I had to get going- we had a dinner reservation for 8 pm at the new Kidani restaurant, Sanaa, and we were planning on making it an early night anyway because on Sunday morning we were going on the Sunrise safari. We had meant to leave after just the one martini...but those DISmoms are some very persuasive girls and we HAD to have that second martini....so when we said our good-byes for the night, we kind of rushed out the door to get to Sanaa even though we were already past our ADR.

Next time, ladies, there will be no sunrise safari. We will be staying with you AND the pop rocks martinis all night! Can you say...UH-OH.......:drinking1:drinking1

On to Sanaa!!! Will we make it before they close???????

:rotfl2: What a GREAT post!! How much fun that must have been for you and Lonnie sitting there and then Kara and Cammie coming in! Let the drinking begin!!! (You all are SOOOO my kind of people!)

That video at the bar CRACKED ME UP!!! I was laughing out loud...what a great moment that must have been! Watching the video, I just wanted the dude to mix up one more drink for me! Love the kids on sticks. There were moments on our trip when we were wishing we had brought our children by proxy as well!

Great report! You are keeping me entertained.

On the way to Kidani, being that it was approaching 8:30, we called to ask if we would be able to still have dinner- they said no problem as long as we made it before 9 pm. I HATED leaving the DISmoms, so since I did, I wanted to be sure we were doing it for a reason...or else, I guess, we could have turned around and gone to Raglan Road with them.... Damn that Sanaa!!!:rotfl:

Anyway....we pulled into Kidani and looked for parking- which was easy to find, but we could have parked a LOT closer- only I didn't know because it was our first time! Although the parking garage isn't going to win any awards for themeing, I LOVED that each section is named after a Lion King character- and it corresponds to each elevator which goes up to the villas. Makes it very easy to remember where you parked, and it will be GREAT to stay at Kidani with your car parked right below in the shade (not that we usually have a car at WDW, but nice for those that do!) and the elevator just a short walk away.

We were a little backwards trying to find our way to the restaurant- fortunately, a CM helped us out. We checked in at 8:45 and were given a beeper, so we walked around and checked it out-

They beeped us, and we were on our way into the beautiful new restaurant. Inside, it feels like you are in a tent, or under the trees in a far away place...
the decor is VERY dramatic, the pics don't do it justice!

2009_052006summer0056.jpg

It would be so wonderful to have lunch or an early dinner here, because the savannah is right outside the large restaurant windows, so you'd be dining with the giraffes and other animals- which you can't do anywhere else at WDW. Obviously, we couldn't see them- but we'll be back!:thumbsup2 It had been 1/2 an hour or so, so of COURSE we were thirsty!! I ordered the Capetown Flight (which paired with the scallops I was having for an appetizer).

2009_052006summer0058.jpg

From left to right, Moschofilero from Greece, Chenin Blanc from So Africa, Chardonnay from So Africa. I am a wine lover, to me this was soooo much fun! I loved being able to sample the different wines with the food. I did enjoy all the wines, but I liked the chenin blanc best (big surprise- I love chenin blanc).

2009_052006summer0060.jpg

Loni ordered fine champagne (pronounced sham-pan-ya :rotfl:) to have with her meal. First we tried the Bread service-

2009_052006summer0061.jpg

We had a choice of 4 breads and 3 accompaniments. For bread we chose (from top to bottom) Roti, Paneer Parantha & Naan. All were very good, but the Paneer Parantha was exceptional. It was filled with cheese and spinach I think- very yummy. The dips are Roasted Red Bell Pepper Hummus, Cucumber Raita, and Coriander Chutney. Our fantastic server had recommended the coriander chutney when we mentioned that we both enjoyed hot, spicey food. If you don't go for heat, stay away from that dip!:scared1: We could have eaten a gallon of the stuff, it was that tasty to us, and we could cool down our palates with the raita which was yogurt based. Honestly, we were both dreaming of that bread service all week. YUM.

Next came appetizers- I had Mustard Seed Crusted Scallops with a coconut cream sauce- delicious!

2009_052006summer0063.jpg

And Lonnie had chosen the salad sampler. For her three choices of the 5 offered, she had (from top to bottom) Chickpeas with cucumber and tomato, Carrot, orange and mint, and Roasted potato, corn & spinach. I liked the chickpeas best, myself.

Loni handles a crisis at home...
2009_052006summer0072.jpg

Out came the main courses- I enjoyed Tandoori Lamb Chops served with basmati rice. I have to say, they were perfectly done, but by now I was soooo full! Still, I did my best-

2009_052006summer0074.jpg

Lonnie tried another tasting type of meal, this time she chose (from 4) Shrimp with Green curry sauce and chicken with red curry sauce, accompanied by five-grain pilaf.

2009_052006summer0076.jpg

OMG, we were really full! The portions were not huge, it was just that we were trying alot so it was very filling. Her curries were yummy, the chicken was so moist and tender and the shrimp were well cooked.

Sorry, but no dessert for us! We were ready to pop! We were able to use my TIW card (for the first time- Woohoo!!!) and waddle out happily. We both genuinely adored this restaurant. The flavor profile was so different from what my mouth usually eats, and I truly love trying new things. Our server was very enthusiastic and he really helped us with his recommendations, especially when we were choosing that bread service (his favorite was the paneer parantha and the coriander chutney- mine, too!). I LOVE that they offer so many different wine flights- I actually could have had another flight with my lamb, and had we not been out before hand, I might have!

Some art on our way out-

2009_052006summer0064.jpg

And a stop at what HAS to be the most beautiful restroom in WDW- check out that granite!!!

2009_052006summer0065.jpg

2009_052006summer0069.jpg

Seriously- isn't the way the granite goes up the wall next to the mirror just so cool? Lots of people came in to this bathroom to take photos and gawk while we were there. Can you blame them?

Cont'd next post-

We made our way back to Jambo, where we were staying in a Value studio villa for the night. I wasn't sure what to expect of this room since it was a value room (meaning it's a little smaller than the other Jambo studios) but it turned out to be just fine!

2009_052006summer0080.jpg

2009_052006summer0081.jpg

This room had that armoire rather than a closet- not a big deal for us, but there might be a lack of storage for a long stay.

2009_052006summer0078.jpg

And of course, our view-

2009_052006summer0083.jpg

HAHA- better wait for the morning to see what's out there! So we turned in early since we had to wake up at 5 or so to shower and then check out and check in to concierge all by 6:45 so we could go on the sunrise safari. Lovely. Especially because it was already about 12 am! Ooops!!! Well, one thing's for sure- we didn't come to WDW to sleep (at least not this time!!). See you tomorrow- we've got a safari to attend!!!! And TONS more DISmom antics!! And a Mammoth Meet!! WOO-HOO!!!!!!!

As soon as we saw Ellen and Lonnie at the margarita stand, we knew we were off to a great weekend. Not much I can add to what Ellen said, but I did document her first AP purchase!

:rotfl2: :lmao: Ellen, you are AWESOME!!!

This is the best trip report EVER!

RaglanRoadflatkids.jpg

Yes, we win mothers of the year award for posing our young children with our beers!!!! :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: Then I should get some kind of Dad award also for dragging my kids to the Rose & Crown, right?

Love love love Raglan Road!!!! This was my second time eating here and it did not disappoint.

I ordered the shepherd's pie this time...... There are just so many things on this menu that I could have ordered so I like to try something different each time. Now this was goo, but I honestly like the shepherds pie at R&C better......

RaglanRoadshepherdspie.jpg

Based on Cammie's recommendation we ate at Raglan Road for the first time on our trip. We LOVED it. It will be a MUST DO from now on. I almost ordered the shepard's pie, but I ended up being safe with the fish & chips. They were great, but I wish I had gotten the shepard's pie. That looks amazing!

And of course dessert..... Ger's bread and butter pudding.... TO DIE FOR!!!!

RaglanRoadbreadpudding.jpg

Oh dear God! I am not usually a big dessert person, but I ordered this at Raglan Road for my dessert. It was THE BEST dessert of our entire trip, hands down. :thumbsup2 Just looking at your picture is making me hungry! I have NEVER had such a wonderful bread pudding.

love the story telling. It sounded so fun. I agree everyone I have met on the DIS is like an old friend. Glad there weren't an axes

Did he have an accent?! :lovestruc

NO!!! Nobody at RR had an accent and that really bugged us, too!

That pic of Ellen getting her AP? She looked over at me right before then and hollered (as only our Ellen could do....) "Kara! Where's your camera??? Aren't you going to document this moment of me getting my first AP?" :rotfl2:

Yea, I hollered...any a you woulda done the same!!!!

See the guy selling me the pass? I think it was his first day...he was not used to the cockeyed optimism and unbridled enthusiasm of a first time AP holder... I think I made him very afraid to come back to work the next day!:lmao:
