Did some searching thru threads but looking for more specific answers to our family. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
First time EVER visiting Disney at all and we are planning to go to Disneyland....it is a one day visit and yes we will be trying to do as much as we can. That being said our middle child has developmental delays however he 'looks' like a regular kid just wearing glasses. And I injured my foot back on July 31 (cut it all the way open) walking now, slow but the MD said get a wheelchair due to all the walking.
Can someone explain what accommodations we can ask for and use IF and ONLY if needed?? Still also trying to figure out all the abbreviations. Thanks very much in advance...... we are on the East coast and visiting family over Thanksgiving and thought we would squeeze this one day in!

Welcome to the DISboards! :welcome:

For the foot injury -- you might prefer to use an ECV rather than a wheelchair. It will allow you a little more independence than being pushed.

DisneyLand offers a Disability Access Service program that may help your middle child, depending on his needs. There are specifics in the DL & DCA - Disability Access Service Card thread pinned near the top of this forum. The first post has the details you would need to know about the program; the rest was discussion.

If you are using a mobility device, please know that there are several attractions at DLR which will require an alternate entrance. If your son is also using a DAS, your party will need to decide which entrance best suits the needs for both of you because I don't believe you can have both a DAS return time and a wheelchair return time for the same ride.

Feel free to ask questions as you make your plans!

I too think you should get an ECV over a wheel chair. You will not need to do anything else beside what the person at the ride tells you to do

as fair as your middle son think about what kinds of problems he has and what he will need to have a good time at the park when it comes times for the lines and go to GR and talk to them they do not need to know his DX just what he needs in lines and they will help you from there.

You can't have a WC and DAS return at the same time period. It's one active return on each ticket. This doesn't include FP, DLR still uses paper FP. Also DAS returns are given at kiosks and WC returns, when in use, are given at attractions.

Thank you for the replies so far.
We will have our own wheelchair when we fly in. I am able to walk now but knowing it will be a long day may need support when walking. The MD recommended this 3 weeks ago.......to get one now.
We will look up the Disabilities Access Service Card thread and see what we can learn there in regards to our son. Thank you.

If you decide to rent an ECV they will store your wheelchair at the rental. If you can walk some, then if you're in a situation where you have a DAS return instead of a WC return you could always just save up your walking for those queues.

It's 8:00pm at night...you have been walking all day... your foot is killing you. Your middle child is getting overloaded and wants to take a break. The other kids don't.
With an ECV you can continue with the kids or take your middle son to a quiet place. WIth your wheelchair you can't.
Get the EVC.

Sorry, I must be a little dense today, but I don't see how using the EVC vs the wheelchair differs in the situation you mentioned. Can you explain?

If you have to be on your own without someone to push you, an ECV will be much easier to you to get around independently. Unless you are used to it, you will be too tired to wheel yourself around.
