Editors Note: I feel the need to preface this entry by saying that we are not big breakfast people. I eat breakfast every day but mostly to save the rest of my intestines from being brutally cannibalized by a stomach launched into mad panic at the prospect of starving to death (My drama queen gene seems to be firmly lodged in my stomach it probably ate it at one point). Jeff would prefer to not eat breakfast and subside on coffee alone. So I will tell you what we consumed in the a.m for 7/8 days: Me: Nuts Over Chocolate Luna Bar (pretty good.. chewy, chocolately, feels like snack time for breakfast) and a Sugar Free Red Bull; Jeff: Red Bull. Yes, we require copious amounts of caffeine, and since I just cant stomach NesCrappé we find alternate sources of our legal upper.
One of themes of this trip (besides my birthday, of course)
...is to try new things. Both food and attraction related. However, one tradition that could not be broken is to spend the first day in MK. Its just not the start of a Disney vacation until you emerge from the shade of the train station and are basked in the warmth of a happy sun, illuminating the buildings on Main Street as you turn the corner, past The Emporium, to come face-to-face with the beauty and majesty of the Castle.
Normally, on our first day in MK, we have lunch at Chaos Rays, splitting a chicken fingers meal, but not today! Oh no, I was out to spearhead the momentum of change! We were to go to Pecos Bills for the chicken wrap!!
(The irony here is that weve been to Pecos Bills before and the only thing weve ever had at Pecos Bills is the chicken wrap.)
I blame old age in the fact that my body now operates on a timed schedule. My drama queen stomach now knows that when the big hand and little hand are both at the 12 its time to start getting really excited. Unfortunately, this is the WORST time to be getting hungry at Disney because everyone else is hungry too, and inevitably there will be crowds, the fight for a table and the accusatory How many of those chairs do you need????.
Anyway, on to the food. We ordered one chicken wrap because really, like most things at Disney, its big enough to share. The entire wrap is served chilled. The tortilla wrap itself is chewy with a good density in texture paired with the soft bite of the seasoned chicken. The lettuce was crisp and the tomatoes nicely bite sized any larger and their softness might have been a turn-off to my palate. The cheese was soft and clumpy, in that typical shredded, processed cheddar sort of way, but I like cheese. I believe all cheese has its place in the world, and in a chicken wrap like this the soft, processed cheddar is the way to go.
The wrap was good, not great. I remember it being better. The Pecos Bills sauce seemed like some sort of cousin to ranch. It added a little bit of flavor, but I think it really would have excelled had it had more of a kick to it. Overall, it was a good lunch option though; nicely filling and not heavy. You felt like you could still go out and conquer the parks instead of conquering the park bench in a food-coma-like state.
With the wrap we got the carrots option, to which I say to Disney: Seriously?! Seriously. You cant give us the baby carrots we all know and love from the grocery store? We get soggy orange toothpicks instead? They were soggy. And root-sprouty. About 2/3 of the bag was actually edible, in my opinion (but I am vegetable freshness picky). Party foul, Disney. Par-tay foul.
But at any rate, we left Pecos Bills satisfied and totally unaware of the culinary delights before us that evening..
on the 15th floor, on top of the World.
