I called DISH TV and asked about deleting channels since I'll be leaving town for a couple of months - they told me I could suspend the service for a maximum of six months and only pay $5 a month - has anyone ever done this?

Yeah we have...it only applies, (normally) if you're not under a contract, and to my understanding the cost, either $5 or $10, depends on what type of equipment you have, and of course we had to add tax. Worked great for us, we just called when we needed to have it back on, and within 5 or 10 minutes we were good to go.:thumbsup2

This is what I do with my cable/internet here at the lake.. I have it on for the 7 to 8 months that I'm here and then switch to "seasonal" when I go back to my DD's for the coldest winter months.. When I'm not here it runs $9 a month.. Technically the seasonal period is supposed to be for at least 6 months, but they've never given me a hard time about it..:goodvibes

Just be sure to ask if there will be a "reconnect fee" when you want to have it turned back on again.. Some places do that..

Fortunately my cable company doesn't - unless I have it totally turned off (disconnected outside at the box)..

We did this with DirecTv (tried to cancel but they kept sweetning the deal). We suspended it for 6 months and they didn't charge us anything.
