Dish Network Scam

I can't believe what Dish Network just tried to do to me! I got a HDTV so I needed a package and I didn't realize that I also needed a new receiver. They told me I did and it was 350.00 for one! WHAT! I freaked. I was not interested in paying that. I told them that I wanted to see about cancelling because I didn't think that cable or Direct TV wold charge me that much. They must have been magic words.

I got transfered to someone else that offered me that same receiver for 25.00!

I asked her why and she said she has more leeway with price than the first person I spoke to.

I seemed like a scam to me! If I had not complained they would have just charged me 350.00 yikes!

I switched from DISH to DirectTV, and when I called DISH to cancel, they immediately offered $10 off a month for the next year. DirectTV didn't charge anything for their equipment.

I cancelled my service last month to end 2/26. No problems just moved to somewhere where the cable was included. I spoke to two different people to confirm the cancellation but still received a bill for the next month of service. Spoke to a third person who cancelled the bill but at first told me I never cancelled my service. She quickly found my cancellation when I told her the operator ID and date I did so. I then called today to ask a question about the box we received to send back the receivers and they told me I had an overdue amount of $10 for one day of dish (2/27) that went into the next billing cycle. I had to speak to a manager to have that removed. I asked if you tell me it's ending 2/26 and I remove the receivers that day and you leave it on 2/27 how is that my fault to have to pay. It seems like they are just making it more difficult for me to cancel it. :headache:

Not yet... but keep all your paperwork from DirectTV. When we canceled service with them when we moved, they tried to bill us $150 for equipment usage that we'd never agreed to. They kept sending increasingly harassing letters until I was able to dig the signed contract out of the moving boxes that blatently stated that if we returned the equipment to them (which we did) that there would be no charge. Once I sent them a copy of the contract with a sternly worded letter, I never heard back from them, but I have no doubt they would have sent it to collections and tried to damage our credit if I hadn't been able to produce the proof. The letters they'd been sending said as much.

Dish network leaves a lot to be desired. We moved over a year ago and when we canceled our Dish, we were told they would send boxes to mail back our equipment. After numerous phone calls and requests for boxes or at least an address that we could drop them off at. The equipment is still setting in my FIL's basement. We aren't being charged for the equipment but one would think they would at least want the DVR back:confused3

I am so not impressed with Dish Network either, but I called a few months back to complain and they took $5 off my bill for the next 6 months. That helped a little bit!!

WOW! I moved and Dish apparantly did not want to keep my business or ever get it back. Our contract had ended and we moved about 15 miles away. Dish wanted to charge like $200 (this was 4 years ago) to install the dish at our new house. The house already had a Dish satellite installed from the previous owners, but maybe they would have to do more. But still - $200. We tried to get them to do it for free with a new contract and they would not. They even had ads for free installation, but only for new customers. So we knew they could do it.

When we cancelled, they told us we had to return a part of the dish or they would charge us $150. I asked them what they would do if we were keeping them at the new house - would they go get it for us? They said no - they would leave it and not charge us the $150. Please! My dh climbed on the roof, got the part they needed and I mailed it off. They charged me for the part anyway. I called and they said they did not receive the part. I ended up not paying for that part.

We are happy with Directv.

We are in the process of returning their equipment and they wanted us to climb on the roof and get that part off the dish..we said no way, its winter here and the guy marked that down I guess so they better not charge us for it!

A similar thing happened to me, but, with DirectTv, I canceled and went to Dish and now Direct keeps sending my stuff saying they want my business back - well...you should of thought about that before you pulled your little stunt!!

I don't think what the OP did was a scam. If she was really going to switch to DirecTV, but chose not to after she got the better deal, good for her.
