DISH NETWORK??? No more Comedy Central. MTV. Nickelodeon!!!

I'm still wondering about Directv though...why would it be broadcast saying for Dish Network people, for those that have Directv? I also heard that Dish Network bought Directv, so wouldn't they be lost for everyone? We keep seeing it on CBS too...THAT would be really bad to lose a main local channel.

we lost cbs, mtv, mtv2, nick, comedy central, and vh1. I'm more mad at Viacom than at Dish....oh well, I don't ever watch cbs, and rarely MTV so.....i"m sure they'll resolve it eventually.:)

This is off of the DishNetwork site...

"Why did Directv settle their contract and DISH Network cannot come to an agreement?
DISH Network is not willing to pass on excessive cost to our customers as other providers are willing to do to pay for fees like Viacom is proposing."

It's probably Viacom running the scrolls. They are the ones who stand to benefit by angry consumers calling DISH. I guess they had to find some way to recoup the $$ thehy are losing since the Super Bowl incident, so they riase their prices. (I have most of their channels blocked out of my menu anyway.)

Keep the Faith!

Boy am I happy to have switched to cable tv 3 years ago from Dish Network.....
And I had the same banners going across my screen this weekend , and I am a cable subscriber.

Wow this is crazy. I have directv and thanks for the info that we won't lose the stations but it does freak me out to see the scrolls.

1-800-333-DISH

You can call and spend all day on hold... it probably will not help....

My 6yo DS will revolt if Nick is off the air for more than a day!!!

And NO SURVIVOR !!!!

We have digital cable so we're ok but I do remember seeing the scrolls on VH-1 and MTV over the weekend but I didn't pay much attention to it because it said DISH on it and we don't have that, besides....these channels are always scrolling something or other. It's just ridiculous that they dropped those channels for paying customers without a formal notice other than a scroll across a screen. If I was a dish customer I would be so mad right now, make your calls, hopefully they can resolve this quickly.

The scrolls are being run by Viacom, not your cable co or Directv. This is a specific contract issue between Viacom and Echostar. It does not affect any other providers. It boils down to Viacom wanting to raise the fees about 6 cents a month per subscriber (equals millions). Hard to justify the Dish Net strike of those channels after they recently raised their prices $3 a month to their subscribers.

I think what annoys me so much is the lack of notice. Not two weeks ago, in my bill, I got a notice of my new package (Top 120) and all the stations were listed. You mean to tell me they didn't know two weeks ago?? Also, they blacked out the scroll across the screen - deliberately deceptive, if you ask me.

Finally, I visit the website to see what was going on and I get some silly note about how I "may" lose some stations and then BAM! they're gone!! No time to decide to switch. No time to voice an opinion.

I don't appreciate the way they handled it. Had I gotten some notice, I would have been disappointed, but I would have dealt with it until it gets resolved. I just feel they were fraudulent and deceptive and now I side with Viacom since Dish Network has given me no confidence to believe they are not the ones that are wrong.

I'm really going to miss Nick at Nite. :(

We have Dish and even lost our local CBS - NO SURVIVOR THURSDAY NIGHT!!!!!

For once, I'm glad to have digital cable instead of satelite. We were looking at Dish Network for a while, and used to have DirectTV at the apartment.

For those of you afraid you'll miss Survivor -- can't you watch it from normal broadcast TV? May require disconnecting a cable from your TV or something (or switching to a different "input" like "antenna"), but you may be able to catch your local CBS station that way. We had to do that a time or so when Direct TV was out in the apartment.

Luckily, I do not watch Survivor, but if I did, I would not be able to watch it from a regular TV. Where I live we are too far away to get a decent TV signal. We would be mainly watching snow. I fired off a nasty e-mail to DISH, as I figured calling would put me on hold all day. I pay extra for local channels, so I told them I expect a credit on my next bill as well.

We're Dish customers and still have CBS. Maybe because it is part of our "local package?"

Blondie...your CBS affiliate is probably not owned by Viacom.

Lucky! :D

I have dish network and haven't noticed anything. We still have all our channels. Is this just an East Coast/Midwest problem? I don't get it! ????

when I called Dish, they had a promt jsut for this problem. They said it was due to accessivley (sp?) high rate coming from Viacom. They gave a number (no toll free, of course) to complain to Viacom, but when I called there was just a recording that all circuits were busy. No doubt. I am pretty angry.

I'm glad I went back to cable. What did we do in the day before cable and sattelite? All we had to pay for was the TV and electricity to us it.;) I think it's rediculous that we pay so mcuh $$$ to watch TV.::yes::

Could be! I don't know who owns whom around here!

Didn't Viacom or some other company take away some channels last year? And within 24 hours, it was back.

I'm thinking the same thing will happen this time too.

I'm not worried about it.

i just read this on cbs.com

VIACOM STATEMENT REGARDING ECHOSTAR'S REMOVAL OF OUR NETWORKS FROM THE DISH NETWORK

Mar 9, 2004 8:09 am US/Eastern
Viacom made the following statement after EchoStar/DISH Network pulled its networks off the air:

"We are dismayed and disappointed by EchoStar/DISH Network's decision to pull the plug on our channels. We tried for months to reach an accommodation that would allow them to continue carrying CBS, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, Comedy Central, MTV, BET and many of our other channels, but EchoStar/DISH Network refused to entertain a reasonable proposal or to negotiate in earnest.

We have solid business partnerships with virtually every other satellite and cable TV operator--except for EchoStar/DISH Network.

It is hard for us to make sense of their position. They recently hiked their subscribers' bills by as much as $3 a month. Yet they are unwilling to consider paying an additional six cents a month per subscriber for the right to carry our channels. When Americans watch TV, they spend more than 20% of their time with our networks; nonetheless, we are asking for less than 5% of what EchoStar/DISH Networks currently generates from the average customer.

Fortunately, consumers have a choice. Every other satellite and cable television provider manages to carry our channels without finding it necessary to overcharge their subscribers. Current EchoStar/DISH Networks subscribers who would like to continue receiving BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, and all our other channels can easily switch to one of these reputable operators. We urge them to do so."

.06 per subscriber? please tack the .06 onto my bill...good heavens...
