DISH NETWORK??? No more Comedy Central. MTV. Nickelodeon!!!

I'm not too worried either....I think it will be resolved shortly and, to be honest, I wouldn't mind paying a little more per month - say $5.00 or so. It would still be cheaper than what my friends and family pay for cable (in our area, at least, cable is VERY expensive - at least $20. - $30. per month more for less channels) and I think the service and variety of channels is great.

Still...I am annoyed and disappointed in Dish Network for the way they treated their customers. We deserved better....notice....an explanation....anything like that would have gone a long way to ease the anger (somewhat!).

Up until today I would have defended DishNetwork to anyone, as we have been very happy with our service over the past 6 years. But when my kids got up today, which happens to be a day off from school, and there was no Nickelodeon or Nick Jr.... well sir, I can tell you, there will be h**l to pay!!!! I honestly thought it was just a one day, temporary problem, until I saw this thread!! But we keep cable as a backup, since we already have it for the broadband service, so I guess we will be watching Survivor live on cable.... no taping on the PVR and watching after the kids go to bed!! YUCK!!! That means I have to watch commercials! I tried calling both of the numbers (Viacom and MTV) and of course couldn't get through to either, starting 8 am this morning......P

Oh this make me so mad! This is crazy. Those channels are HUGE. six cents! I'm surprised that Dish Network would have such a problem with this. Why not send out a notice that says that we are raising your rate by $1.00 a month to pay for the additional cost. They'd be making such a profit on it. Six Cents! I just don't get it! Luckily we haven't had tv on today to notice that Dora is gone, and we still have CBS.

We saw the banner on Comcast, too.

I saw the scrolling too and it said DishNetwork. Our DirectTV seems to be fine.

My banner on my DirectV said Dish too. It seems like someone told me Dish was trying to buy out DirectV at one time, I hope that doesn't mean they have already. I don't think they have though.

CNN had a story about this today, too. The article states:
"You would think DirecTV would launch a blitz in the affected markets, saying 'we have these channels.' And the longer this blackout lasts, the more people will go to DirecTV," he said.

Baker added that DirecTV faces less of a problem from its network carriers as it is a higher-end package and is less likely to be squeezed by network rate hikes.

I have dish network and haven't noticed anything. We still have all our channels. Is this just an East Coast/Midwest problem? I don't get it! ????

Disykat:

It is a West Coast problem too. We still have our local CBS station, but we have lost Nickelodeon, MTV and the Comedy channel. I guess our local channel is not owned by Viacom.

I will be changing to something else just for the fact that they didnt handle this very well in my opnion. If they tacked the .06 cents onto my bill each month I would have been happier than turning on my TV for Dora this morning and it just wasnt there. They knew this was coming, but they didnt bother to give us any notice. Our local cable company will give you a $250 credit to turn in your dish. I may finally take them up on the offer!

Does this affect Noggin? That channel seems to be gone completely. The channel Nickelodeon is on is broadcasting a typed message from Dish Network, but 169 or Noggin is not even in my line up anymore?

This is the Viacom Lineup from CNN.com: Yes NOGGIN (my 7mo's favorite is included)

This doesn't surprise me.

Cable companies and satellite companies have to pay for these channels. Disney keeps raising the price for ESPN and the cable companies have to pay it. They often have to carry certain amounts of channels and certain ones per their franchise agreements with local governments.

Satellite companies can stand up to these rate increases and say "no thank you" because they are not regulated. Cable companies, on the other hand, often have no choice but to keep raising their rates and making everyone mad.

We have Direct TV and thank goodness it isnt affecting us.

UPN (Star Trek!) would be out for us because Viacom owns that out here..without that or Nick or some of the other stuff!! OH NO! and we don't watch a lot of TV!

I'm so cynical. I thought the scrolling banner was propoganda from the Cable Company trying to scare people!!! I don't have sattelite TV, so it doesn't affect me. But I sure would be ticked!

I'm so sick of the scrolling, I was going to call the 800 number to see if it was the cable company too.

I can't believe the cable company is letting this scroll go through.

This is why I love Direct TV! We have friends across the street from us that have the Dish network and have had nothing but problems off and on, that have NEVER been a problem with Direct TV.
And we have all our channels as well. In fact, this morning I even noticed a couple new ones. 1-800-DIRECTTV.thats the number to call and get hooked up!

You Dish people need to switch to Direct TV! We have had them for YEARS and love them!

Make the switch and get a Tivo Receiver while you're at it!

You'll thank me later! ::yes::

i've never had a problem with Dish before this, and this isn't really bothering me all that much. i'll wait it out and see what happens, besides i already own my satellite dishes, it would be stupid for me to have to buy new ones from Direct TV.

They've also been running the scrolls since Thursday, so I knew this was coming. it was still weird to see it on the tv this morning, though.

I've never had a problem with Dish before either, and I have a PVR reciever (which is the same as Tivo) already through them. I could not read the scrolls over the weekend though, as they kept blacking them out. I like that I didn't have to buy any equipment through Dish, so if a reciever breaks (like we have had happen) they just send out a new one at no cost to me.

We've never had problems with Dish either and I definitely don't want to switch to cable who happens to be Comcast in our area. Isn't Direct TV real expensive? We have three receivers plus our dish and I wonder how much it would cost to have the same set up.

We're all unhappy that we've lost Nickelodeon (I watch Nick at Nite a lot) and we've also lost our local CBS affiliate. I'm trying to think of someone who doesn't have the Dish Network out here so we can go over and watch Survivor this Thursday.

DH originally wanted DirecTV, but they don't offer it in our area. well, we can get DirecTV but it's through an independent provider or something weird like that and the rates are astronomical! so we went with Dish Network. i've had it before...had no problems...we got an awesome deal at the time...3 room system and a DVR. (similar to Tivo)

i really hope this issue is resolved soon. if it means raining my rate by .06, the so be it...
