karibritt- todays weather is chilly and windy here, quess it took awhile to get to the foothills.

OK, what's up? I looked for our thread and it was half way down the page. I DON"T THINK SO!!!!! What's goin' on girls(and Rags)?:rotfl:

Just dropping in to say Hi & catch up on today's posts. I guess I missed all of the Code talk but I'm sure they weren't available for my dates anyway.

I had a busy night tonight went to meet my youngest DD's Summer Fun teacher at daycare and then to the middle school for parent night for incoming 6th graders so I have been well oriented tonight!!:lmao:

I did get to meet a fellow Diser at the middle school. I met her on the Budget board and our daughters know each other so we got to meet tonight...that was fun. I don't think anyone else is on tonight so I'll go to another board and check back in a little while.

Boy we have gotten quiet!

I have been super busy around here. I live in a great little community who is banding together to help us with some repair and remodeling of our house (things got a little rundown with Michael so sick). So I've been spending much time trying to throw things out and get things so they are a little easier for the "demolition". They are going to try and put in floors and paint our walls while we are at disney!! Yikes! A couple of girls are coming over next weekend end to help me pack up my house! I so desperately need to declutter because most of our house is gone. I am going to over simplify!

LizAgna, that's so cool that you got to meet a fellow dis'er. I can't wait to meet all you guys!

Yay Mandy!! Way cool!

castawayman - those are cool pictures! How beautiful!

Gottta run. Danae has ballet today and I need to go find her some ballet slippers!

This thread has gotten quiet lately. I have to admit that I have been pretty busy this past week. Today I need to get some things done - like go to BJs Warehouse and Gander Mt Sports. I will try to get on this afternoon and get this party started once again!!!!!

Busy, busy, busy here, too. I've been shopping for summer clothes for Avery. Last summer she could still wear 90% of her things from the year before. This year we are going from 2T/3T to size 4/5. I've also been trying to shop for Tucker's birthday, plan his party, plan Disney, and figure out what we are going to do about school for next year. Our county had decided to change 22 schools to mandatory year-round schools. My kids were transferred to a school about 10 miles from the house... even though we have 2 within 3 miles. Then a group of parents, along with 2 towns, sued the school board to stop the year round schools. The court decided that kids can not be forced to attend year-round, and that we have to be given a choice. So now the school board is still converting the schools, whether they are filled or not. We have to decide if we want to put the kids in the school they were assigned, on the worst track they have, or to send them to a traditional school "somewhere in the county." They say all decisions are final, and we will find out June 20 where the kids will be assigned. We are seriously starting to consider selling the house, and moving 5 miles out, into the next county. OK... enough of my b*tching and drama! :sad2:

What's their defintion of year round? I had it in hs and I loved it. It just depends on how they have it set up.

Now my turn to whine. I hate this merger of echotunes and ticketmaster. I'm trying to get info for a presale tomorrow and I can't get any info. I'm running into dead ends. The fc is poorly maintained, and a donkey could run it better. Okay I'm done for now!

Kari - I HATE the idea of "year round school" for so many reasons! First of all, it bothers me that the school boards have such POWER. And just because the children have set "vacation" times, so often it doesn't coincide with the rest of the extended family - or what makes sense for your own family - husband's workplace, etc.. Not many people want extended time off in the winter months, unless they are fortunate enough to fly somewhere warm.. it's the SUMMER that children look forward to! Our area schools do not have air conditioning, so even this week, the school is very stuffy and uncomfortable. (My library does have air, so I'm fine. Wonder why they all love to come to MY class?! LOL)

But it gets back to the "school boards" in general. Around here, they are "too big for their britches". They spend wildly, but I don't see or hear anything benefiting from it - except that our taxes keep going up, up, up. Super pet peeve for me, since we send Dana to parochial school. Yes, that is the choice WE make, and yes, we can afford it. But, I'm still paying my taxes, for services we aren't using. We do that because we WANT the public school system to be great in the area - it only helps the whole community. But, when I see wasteful spending, arrogant decisions, and nonsense, and I'm paying taxes AND tuition, I get mad. :sad2:

Ok.. off my soapbox! lol

They do basically 9 weeks in/3 weeks out throughout the year. There are 4 tracks, but only 3 are in school at any given time. I don't mind year round, only that theirs is so far from the house... especially when they drive past 3 other year rounds to get to theirs. Also, Tucker is ADD, and takes meds. The Dr has us take him off meds on school breaks because he doesn't eat well on meds, and isn't gaining weight. The track they assigned is so broken up that he will constantly be on and off of meds, which is very hard on him. If we choose year round, we will only have 1 1/2 weeks from the time they finalize plans until school starts, and they will not do track changes. Not to mention that I can't register Avery for school until we have a school assignment. Basically... I should lube up and bend over... I'm getting reamed no matter what! :lmao: Sorry! That was really ugly... but it sure did make me feel better!

Wynn works for an engineering firm that does a good portion of the schools in the area. They just finished a new high school... with a $100,000 ROTUNDA in the lobby! :scared1: Each new school they build is designed from scratch, with artist renderings, architectural features, blue prints, engineering, etc. They also build $20,000 into the budget of each school for overage costs. Do you care to guess how many contractors don't figure some way to get that $20K?? I think they should build plain old schools, all on the same design. They would save so much money.

Kari, that's ludicrous. I'm all for year round schools but I hate when any school system forces a kid out of their neighborhood school. Come on! What happened to walking to school?

We were to vote for more money for our school district this last time around. Not sure what the results were. They "need" the money since the school district stinks but they just had another referendum passed about three years ago (two?) and it didn't do much good. Where does all the money go? I'm choosing to homeschool our kids though. Moving just isn't a possibility for us and I'd rather teach them myself. Private schools are just too expensive and I don't want to work for their schooling.

So I've started packing little things here and there for the trip, like the freebies we get. I need to start looking at what we are going to wear. I think I may need some new clothes. I hate shorts and need a few long, flowy skirts for the trip or I'm going to melt in my jeans!

Kari--- that's so dramatic!!!!

OMGoodness--- I'm sure you are stressing!!!!

I've been stressing this week too--- Found a house we wanted to buy---- Ours wasn't even on the market yet but had a potential buyer---- Got our potential buyer to sign purchase agreement---- went back and forth with the seller of the house we want b/c we couldn't agree on a price---- finally got a signed purchase agreement this morning.... SO--- We MAY have a house that I LOVE!!!! I won't be completely at ease until we have the keys in our hand!!!!
