have a question to run by everyone.
I have been planning a surprise Mother's Day for my mother-in-law since Nov of last year. Between my motherinlaw and fatherinlaw they have 7 children.
All but two said that they would come. One wouldn't come and One had to check to see if he could take time off from his training, still haven't heard back from him. Well got word last week that two of the ones that could make it aren't coming now. Now the three that are coming are my fatherinlaws children (Dh, brotherinlaw that lives with them and sisterinlaw coming to WDW with us) The our four are my motherinlaws children and they aren't coming.
How would you feel .
I'm very dissapointed in them,(was highly mad for about four days) and highly dissapointed for my motherinlaw because none of her children are coming down.
Oh, yes the way I was told wasn't very nice either. They used one of DH many Nephew's to tell DH on runescape that none of them were coming.
I sent a not so nice emailing how I felt at the time and haven't talk to them since.
My motherinlaw is a great mother. She is taking care of my brotherinlaw who is in a wheelchair and has limited moblilty and has been this way for 14 yrs. I go over and work 5 hs a day so she can get out and run errands, but she has no other help, except fatherinlaw.

Oh, that is so sad. :sad1: Your poor MIL. Is this how they usually cat? What a strange family dynamic.

That's awesome TN MOM. Now you guys need to not send those "more family coming" vibes my way. My mother is known to throw together a trip in hours!! so we have been keeping the details of our trip from her. Unfort., she already knows we'll be down for ds' bday. Having her down with us would not be joy, joy for us! LOL

CrazyK--- I've been wondering where in the heck you've been! Uh-oh! Maybe you should start prepping your son for my hair! Yikes! Is he going to think I'm totally ugly now???
Courtney - could you possibly be any uglier??? Really now!! :lmao:

I just wanted to say a quick hello to everyone. I have been really busy, so I haven't had a chance to catch up on everyones posts, but I will this weekend. I do have some exciting news. My mom and brother (age 9) have decided to join us for three days. I am so excited. I have been wanting them to come for so long. I had to spend a lot of time on the phone today making their reservations and ADR to match ours. They have never been to WDW so they are really excited.
Excellent news. This year we had to tell my parents very gently that we wanted this to be a Disney trip with just the 5 of us. It was hard for me to do because I love being with my parents but it seems like we never get a chance to be just with our little family...

castawaymam - that is sad about you MILs kids. But you said you had a question to ask us, what was the question? :confused3

 I don't invite my mom or in-laws either! My mom drives us batty, and my in-laws take over my children. It's like MIL has tp prove she is a better parent. I say no to something, and she turns around and gives them permission anyway. Last summer she let DS powerwash the driveway! :scared1: DH has scars on his hand from a powerwasher... and we were already married! I was so upset. My FIL makes the kids rowdy constantly, but then gets upset when they are rowdy at inconvenient times. We do a weekend at the beach every Labor Day with them and BIL and family... and it is SIL that keeps me sane. We sit in the hot tub, drinking and b*tching about MIL!! No extended family vibes my way either, please!!

Were your parents offended they were not invited?

For us its different. We do not have any family instate, Last year we went on a cruise. I asked my sister in law and brother in law if they wanted to join us.(they are in Texas). They did end up going and it was fun for all of us. We only see them once a year.

My parents live in FLorida, about 3 hrs south of Disney. I had planned two days to see them before Disney. They decided to come with us for 3 of the days of Disney. I am very excited as well as the kids. Normally we only see them 1-2 times a yr.So we will see my parents for a total of 5 days in June. They will come up to Va Beach at the end of August for my sons Bar Mitzvah.
We have not seen my parents since last August.
I guess its different when you live close by and see them all the time.

Yes. Both of our parents are less than 5 miles away. We do like that, but it does make it difficult at times. We see them usually 2 or 3 times a week.

My dad was disappointed but my mom wasn't. If you are reading my trip report :rolleyes1 you would see that they joined us for the entire week back in 2003. Plus they live next door to us and we go on vacations with them a lot!!! We will probably all be going back to Cape Canaveral next year for vacation.

Plus, my brother just had a baby girl and has a "plan" to take her to Disney World when she is about 3 years old. So, I have already volunteered to plan that vacation for them, inviting my family and my parents too!

I did read your trip report 2003;) . I didnt realize your parents lived right next door.It must be nice for the kids to have grandparents so close.

It is really nice having them next door about 80% of the time. My mom accuses me of not feeding my kids and sending them next door. What can I say...Gramma's cooking rocks! :lmao:

Haha, I love that!! My mom says the same thing except I don't have kids, I'm the one who goes to her house, tupperwares in hand, and take the food back to my place for the DFi and I:rotfl:

My DFi is going to suffer from gourmet food withdrawls when we move to Tampa, no more picking up and taking home from Mom's house. (She's a gourmet chef, we're spoiled).

Disneyolic - The DFi is a firefighter and he got offered a really great position up there and since I'm a teacher I can work pretty much anywhere! There's also the issue of housing. The Miami housing market is ridiculous. A 3/2 townhouse of 1320sqf here is $360,000. That same house in Tampa is $200,000, maybe even less if we really looked hard. So for our first home purchase and his career move I think Tampa is a wonderful place for us.

I love Miami but it does get old real quick.

I've been to the Tampa area and like it. That great that DFi gets a paid fire fighting position! I used to try really hard to get DH to move down to either the Tampa area or Ft Myers with no luck. It really was the housing market that made it impossible for us...

In Raleigh, NC $200,000 will buy a nice 3/2.5 house on 1/2 acre in the better areas of town. $350-400K will buy something REALLY nice in the private golf course communities. I can't imagine spending that on a townhouse! :confused3 I'm so thankful I don't live in a higher market!

Yeah, he was on the list for a position here in Miami for almost a year and then got called. And we even knew a batallion chief who is a very close family friend and he even helped get DFi (Danny) moved up almost 200 spots on the list and he still had to wait the year. Down here firefighters are mostly used for Fire/rescue, more rescue than fighting fires and Tampa needs experienced EMT's who also have firefighting school complete so when Danny heard about it he jumped at the chance because he knew that I want to leave Miami. We won't be moving until next school year so we've got a bit of time.

Yeah and a single family house 3/2.5 is 430,000 easy, if not 500,000 and that's zero lot lines. No land, nothing! barely enough room to park two cars.

Whoa! I can't imagine. Congrats that he got the job! I know you are both excited about it! When is the wedding?

The wedding is not even a thought in my head. lol. Hopefully we'll get settled and do the intimate wedding thing at disney because Danny has no family here aside from his mom and sister and I have maybe 12 people so the intimate wedding would be perfect. Hopefully that will happen in the next two years.:cheer2:

That sounds really nice. I had friends with very little family. They got married on a moonlight cruise down at the keys.

That sounds lovely! I never go to the Keys. I work at exit 2 of the turnpike in Homestead, an hour ride to the keys and still don't go. DFi wants to go to the Keys but the hotels are just a tad expensive.
