Kari - what are the typical taxes on the $200,000 home that you were describing? Our property taxes here in NY are so horrible that it makes a huge difference in what we can actually afford in a home.

girli - A small intimate wedding sounds very nice but you must make sure you do it up right!!! Make it as romantic as possible, which I am sure you probably want. I'm just doing my own dreaming...:cloud9:

I had wished we could have had a Disney wedding but there was just too many family members to invite. Hindsight, I wished we took the money and did the Disney intimate wedding with just our immediate family.

My home was $160. It's 3/2.5 on .78 acre. Our taxes were around $1200 last year. We are in the county, so ne city taxes. We are also near the small towns, and away from the industrial parks, so the houses are less expensive here. The other side of the county houses the computer geeks, so costs are the $350+ range I was talking about.

I wish we had a smaller wedding, too. We had 250+ guests, and about 100 that couldn't make it because of an ice storm the day before the wedding. It was fun, but SO MANY people I didn't even know! (parents and in-laws friends, extended family, etc)

I'm definitely doing it up right. My parents wouldn't let me do it any other way, lol. I have a very small immediate family circle and like I said earlier, my DFi has 2 people living here in the US so we'd be 18 in total inclusing he and I. I know that our post wedding dinner will be at California Grill, definitely!! And I want to have the ceremony at the gazebo at the Yacht club.

Let me start out by saying that I am NOT trying to influence you on your decision to have your ceremony at the Yacht Club gazebo. Everyone has their own thoughts on how they like their own ceremony to be.

That being said, read a part of my trip report where I comment on this...
Staying at the Yacht Club.

But, no matter what, it will be wonderful!!!

I cannot find ANY house in my area under $250K. Anything under $300K needs work. You're looking at least $350K for a decent house that doesn't need upgrading.

In Raleigh, NC $200,000 will buy a nice 3/2.5 house on 1/2 acre in the better areas of town. $350-400K will buy something REALLY nice in the private golf course communities. I can't imagine spending that on a townhouse! :confused3 I'm so thankful I don't live in a higher market!

Wow. You don't want to hear the housing prices in my "neck of the woods"... New York Tri-State Area.... we are in a suburb in Northern NJ.
We have a 4 BR Colonial, with a built-in pool, on a cul-de-sac, but not a lot of property. Prices are ridiculous.:scared1:

Wow! I wish I lived where you do Kari!

We'll be selling our 25 year old townhouse, 2 bdrm, 1.5 bath, 1275 sq. feet for $145.... We'll be buying something with hardley no yard, around 2000 sq. feet, 3 or 4 bdrm, 2-3 bath for $275.... Since Katrina, our market is insane. Outragous.

To give you an idea, we bought the townhouse four years ago for $92.

I guess the cost of the houses washes in the end... taxes and cost of living are lower, but so are salaries. If you wanted a "Flip this House" type house, you could get it for $40, and one that is liveable but older for less than $100. Most houses are on at least .2 acre here. My lot is pretty large for the area. Our county is trying to pass a minimum lot size law because builders are getting greedy, and stacking homes too close together.

I thought of that when I was just suggesting places at Disney with my mom and I mentioned that it would not be private because all the balconies face the gazebo. We're really socialable people, my family cannot go anywhere without seeing someone we know so things like that really don't bother us. Actually I'm kind of a ham... so I'd probably like it, lol.:cutie:

Whenever you do plan it, we better be a part of the planning process! :cool1:

We want pictures and all!!!! So fun!

My parents are in the process of looking at smaller houses. I'm moving away and mom doesn't work so they don't need all that space anymore. My mom is so frustrated that she says she'd rather stay in the house she's been in for 20 years and pay a bit more than look at all these sad looking $300k 2 bedroom townhomes. She was actually at my apartment crying with my tampa realtor, lol. I felt awful.

Once I move and get settled I will definitely start looking into the planning process. It's so overwhelming, I;m just thinking of telling my mom the basic idea and letting her handle everything, lol, I trust her implicitly.:)

Then the Yacht Club gazebo is perfect! They make you walk down the sidewalk from the lagoon - that is your "aisle". So when we saw the bride and her father standing back there, we all sat on our patio and watched away... It was pretty cool and short.

Yes!!! We love all the details, even if it is in a year or so. That gives us more reason to stay connected, but we may need to move over the Community Board after all our trip reports are done...

And you can start a thread on the Weddings board!!!!

Oh, and I'll definitely post all pictures when it does happen!! I think the only reason a Disney wedding appealed to me is because of the MK pictures!

Maybe should would do better staying put, unless she may move up to the Tampa area near you? It must be hard for her to have you moving away.

I'm sure she isupset .. when I first mentioned it as an idea a year ago she cried. I'm the only baby so she and I have a really special bond. And my parents are divorced, she remarried but before that we were alone for a few years and we grew really close.

But I think I need to get away. I still have family in Tampa, an aunt, and my mom stays with her for months at a time so it really wouldn't be too too bad.:confused3

Our market has gone up a good bit, too. My home right now will appraise around $190, and it is 1660 sq ft. We are planning to add a bonus, hopefully this fall. The addition will add close to 900 sq ft, and should value the house about $230. But like I said, we do have .78 of an acre. We also have a reparian buffer of 200 ft down one side and across the back of our lot... thanks to a creek. Behind that is a farmhouse with cows, so all we see is the fields. We really bought the house for the lot, as it was too small when we bought it. We could have bought one in the 2000 sq ft range, but on a small piece of land, for the same price.

I have a friend who moved to the Tampa area... she was a wedding planner when she lived here. She is a travel agent now, but I bet she would jump at the chance for a side job. If you are interested, let me know and I will find her email address. ;) We really hated it when she moved, as she helped set Wynn's band up with a few jobs!

Thank you, I'll definitely let you know about that. I love this board. My DFi thinks I'm nuts but this has been the most helpful board I've joined.:flower3:
