Thank you, I'll definitely let you know about that. I love this board. My DFi thinks I'm nuts but this has been the most helpful board I've joined.:flower3:

Talk about heart failure today:scared1: ..What is it with me and getting calls from the kids school. Around 1pm the phone rings, its a lady from my daughters school(She is 7).They wanted to verify she was absent today. I am like WHAT!!!!!! "You mean she is not there?" I went on to say I dropped her off at the front door. I saw her walk in. Yes we were a couple of minutes late. The lady puts me on hold... and of course I am thinking the worse. My heart is beating out of my chest. The lady gets back on line to verify that she is in school, she must of been "tardy". Yes, she was tardy but she was there.
Geez...sure know away to give a parent heart failure:sad2:

This happens all the time at my job. I teach special ed so most of my students' parents have my personal cell number and I swear, at least once a day I get this phone call "I just got the school recording telling me xxxxxxx is absent, but I left them there!!!" Homeroom teachers here are serious slackers.

And let me just say... I'm not slacking... lol, today is "Take your child to work day" so I have 2 students in my class when I normally have 25, lol.

The DIS board has been my entertainment all day!! Thank you ladies for keeping me sane today.

I guess the cost of the houses washes in the end... taxes and cost of living are lower, but so are salaries. If you wanted a "Flip this House" type house, you could get it for $40, and one that is liveable but older for less than $100. Most houses are on at least .2 acre here. My lot is pretty large for the area. Our county is trying to pass a minimum lot size law because builders are getting greedy, and stacking homes too close together.

I don't know that it really "washes", Kari... Salaries are higher in this area, but I don't think to that extent.
Our 4 BR, 2.5 bath colonial, finished basement, and built-in cement (not liner) pool, on less than an acre, could probably sell now for $650 - 700K. Taxes are almost $10K. I'm not sure my husband's salary is all that much higher than if he worked in the same type of job in another part of the country.

I'm glad to hear your county is trying to pass that type of a law. New Jersey is known as the "Garden State", yet they keep building homes closer and closer together.

I don't think salaries are that much higher here in Syracuse, NY. And the taxes on a home costing about $130 (3 BR, 1 Ba) would run about $3600 in Liverpool!! Yes, we can find houses at that price, but they are not really something that we want to live in but the taxes just kill us!

sorry, about that earlier post, had to run the brats to school then to work. The question was would you try again or just leave it and how would you react to the inlaws. Mother in law wasn't to disappointed. Mad that her kids that are being that way. She told me that she thought that it was great that I tried to get everyone together and that she hated that it was ruined this way.

No they don't always act this way. One of the daugthers will call and say that she is coming and then call the day she is to arrive and said that they aren't because one of her boys has to play ball.

Live in the foothills of NC, in quiet little sleepy town. The prices of homes are from 75,000 for a 3bed/2bath in subdivision and 300,000 3bed/2bath with land in the country(newly built).

I guess if your MIL wants to go ahead with it, then you should. It's all a shame about her kids but it really is hard work getting people together and you should now start to concentrate on having a good time with everyone that is there!

I agree with DM... just make it as special for her as you can, and have fun with those who show up. Don't let the others ruin your party.

Where in NC foothills do you live? I have family in the Morganton/Marion area, and friends in Jefferson.

I can tell you from my own personal experience that there was a huge difference in DH's salary. We were seriously considering moving to NC & spent Thanksgiving week looking at houses. DH spoke with a bunch of carpenters and they are all making a 1/3 of what he makes here. We still want to move there it's just not an option in the next few years until DSD is out of college.

QUESTION OF THE DAY:

What one restaurant are you most looking forward to dining at in Disney World on your June vacation? You must only choose one!!!

My choice would be Le Cellier because we have never been there before.

Well honestly, we dont eat at very many Disney restaurants. We are the "El Cheapo" family. I am looking forward to going to Chef Mickey for breakfast. I dont remember the food to be all that outstanding, but I want to see the look on my little ones face when we go.

California Grill!! I was there once and still have dreams about the valrhona chocolate cake. My DFi is dying to try it because he thinks of himself as a connoisseur of molten chocolate cakes :lmao:

I would love to go here someday when I can get a sitter for the kids. Any takers?

Mine is 1900 Park Fare for dinner. Avery will be fresh from BBB and wearing her Cindy dress... it will be so fun! Tucker will be fresh from BBB, too. That "cool dude" will certainly be interesting in the pics! :goodvibes

Kona! I was reading a review last night & thought I was going to cry looking at the pictures. I love Kona!

I'm going to ask a different question. Anyone doing anything fun this weekend?

Me I'm going shopping Saturday sine it's tax free holiday. :cool1: Then I have to to work on a take home final and memorize a song for another final.
