Sarah... the house is GORGEOUS!! I love the paint color and the light fixtures! I know you are going to enjoy getting everything fixed up. Congrats!

[!

Mine don't sleep in the car either! I have new DVDs for them to watch, and I get Color Wonder coloring books and such to keep them busy. When we stop for lunch at McDonalds, we send them to play while we eat, then take their lunch to eat in the car. That way they get to stretch and play, and spend the next 30 min eating semi-quietly![/QUOTE]

Glad to hear mine arent the only ones who dont sleep in the car:confused3 Unfortunately my youngest only likes to nap and bedtime in her own bed. I also bought a couple of new movies for the kids to watch. We are actually bringing 2 portable dvd players. Im figuring my almost 13 yr old son, might not want to watch Disney movies all the way. Hes a good sport about watch the movies with his younger sisters, but I figured Id give him a break;)

And I know you were being funny about stopping here... but come right ahead! We are 30 min from I-95. We might have to put you on air mattresses, but the kids could run around and play!
Was I kidding? :lmao:

Brooke still falls asleep in the car. But we haven't gone anywhere of real distance in a couple of years so it will be interesting when we finally do that long haul trip. Mickey D's is a great idea Kari!

Avery will fall asleep in the car no problem, but she doesn't sleep for long. After about 30 min, she is uncomfortable and wakes up. We have those neck pillows, but they don't help much.

When we drove up to Michigan in a rental van, I would lay the seat back and fasten the seatbelt but slept that way.

Funny none of my kids really slept in the car past the baby stage. I think its because they are all so darn nosey, they worry they might miss something;)

Last week we drove 2 hrs to my daughters track meet, and was like a practice run. NOPE,my little one would not close those eyes for anything. She kept them glued to her movie.

Movies work great for my kids, because we don't let them watch unless we are going somewhere. I have friends who will turn on a movie to go to the grocery, or take the kids to school. That makes me nutty! Unless its over an hour, I make them amuse themselves.

I agree. When we first got the portable dvd players last yr. We use to use them all the time. But, my youngest would drive me crazy with wanting to put movies on ALL the time. So we took them out. Now, we have only used them we we drive to the track meets, which are anywhere from 1 hr to 2 hr drives.I will say having movies on the long road trips makes for very quiet drive;) I remember doing roadtrips as a child driving to Florida and Georgia etc(This was from the Chicago area), and me and my brother would fight all the time. I can remember vividly my dad telling us if we didnt stop he would turn that car right around:lmao: I also remember crossing the Georgia state line into Florida and my mom telling my dad he was driving too slow. 5 minutes later, my dad was pulled over by a state trooper for speeding:rotfl: We never let my mom live that one down.

Oh goodness, at first I thought you never let your kids watch movies unless on a long trip. I love the portable DVD players, which we have now. My next minivan will definitely have the installed DVD player though but I intend to drive this one into the ground.

For those Driving to Disney...

How often do you stop? What kind of snacks do you bring with you in the car?

My husband does most of the driving. He stops every hour to hour and half, it drives me crazy:rolleyes: He said its because he drinks a lot of soda so has to use the restroom a lot:sad2: . I just hate stopping so much because that means everybody has to get out. Well we really dont all have too. But, then the kids decide they need to go, and I cant let my 7 yr old daughter in the bathroom by herself. Then that means Faith wants to get out as well. Its just such a pain to stop so often and pile out and then back in again.

For snacks, I am trying to be smart. I am buying snacks I dont like. I use to always buy some sort of chocolate chip cookie little packages for the kids. Then Id end up eating too many.:rolleyes1 . I am going to try so hard to make healthy choices, expecially for the road trip. My downfall is Chocolate:love:

When we drove, when being the keyword. We left out of here at like 1 or 2 in the morning, drove till we got outside of Chatt then stopped and stretched or whatever. Then we drove past ALT, then stopped for breakfast. We drove usually to Augusta or some where in Georgia or some place in Florida and stopped for the night. Then continued on the next day.

We stopped quite a bit but we got out and walked around.

Now I've got quite an interesting driving story, those of ya'll know I live in TN, well we go through Manchester to get to Chatt. Well the first year they did Bonaroo, we got directed into it. I never have been so nervous. We left the house at like 2 in the morning and didn't get out of Manchester till 7! :scared1: The cop directing traffic got told to be more careful.

Man ya'll are chatty today. Go away for a few hours and come back to 2 pages to read. Love your house Sarah!:love:Congratulations!

Hi Andrea! I'm so glad that you are still able to post with us. :goodvibes Glad you're having a good time. Are you going straight from Las Vegas to Disney?

I was just mentioning to some other DISers that I couldn't believe that you were going on a vacation for that long of a time. Lucky you! Take care and hope to hear from you soon...

Well... my snacks will NOT be healthy! My vacation is my reward for sticking to my diet and losing weight, so I will not worry about what I eat! I have Sweet n' Salty peanut bars, Krispy Treats, Goldfish, and Ritz Bitz for the car, room, and back pack. I also have cheese sticks, cereal, and Pop Tarts for the hotel room. I also buy 2 cans of Pringles for the car... 1 for each kid. You won't believe the headache it saves if they don't have to share the can!

As for stops... we will grab a biscuit at MickeyD's as we get on the highway. We will try not to stop until somewhere in SC for lunch, and then around the Georgia state line for gas. We never ask the kids about rest stops, or they will need to stop at ALL of them! When they ask to stop, we will look for the next rest area (or gas station if its an emergency!) If the kids are sleeping/quiet/happy... Wynn and I will hold it until our eyes water! Try having your DH drink caffeine free soda on the trip, as caffeine is a diuretic... could cut down on the stops a tad. I sip O so slowly on my drink when we are on trips, or I'll be miserable!

How dare you buy Pringles. Don't you know that Rob works for Frito-Lay. You should buy Lay's Stax - they taste just like Pringles and are in those nice cannisters. Plus it helps our stock...;)

I am a "pee-er" and I drink caffeine-free Diet Coke. I find that if I do drink too much that once I go, it seems that I have to go again in less than an hour! So, on the road I have to really watch how much I drink.

The only lays I touch are the ones with ridges or classic. I can't stand the ones that are like Pringles. Pringles are the best sorry DM.
