Based on the better rates being offered at Alamo these days, it seems National has really taken a backseat. Have any Disers found decent rates with National? I really love the EA. It kills me to give that up, but the disprecency in rates have been enormous. Thanks for any feedback.

Haven't given up completely; I have a National reservation for this summer for an SUV for 15 days for $777; but I am watching rates. We have had a bad Alamo experience also, so I am wary of them. I am hoping for some discounts to come along.

Just keep checking back and especially, using any codes and coupons from Mousesavers. I had an Alamo mid-size SUV booked until the last minute for my February trip, then I think about 2-3 days before I found a link here to a discount site, plus a contract code and a $25 off coupon that I found linked from Mary's site, and I brought the rate to be about equal to the Alamo rate, so I switched.

Nope...haven't given up on National here. DH would actually rather pay a few more $$'s and bypass the counter. We got a very good rate from this past Feb. 27 to Mar 7. We are Emerald Club members and booked an Intermediate for the 8 days at $168 base (used AmEx code and $25 coupon from National site). When we arrived at MCO, we took a Chevy Uplander (SUV/Minivan cross) which would have cost us well over $300 if we had specifically booked it. It was a very nice car with all the "goodies", including a DVD player!

We love walking past allllll the people standing in line at the counters as we head right out to the garage.

I'm sorry, but I have to say "are you crazy"? I have an SUV for 14 days reservered through Alamo (late April into early May) and am paying $238 all taxes and fees included. I am a huge National fan and an Executive Aisle member (2 years). We go to WDW 5 to 6 times a year and have always rented from National.....until February. We had a minivan reserved for 9 days ($158 total) and used Alamo for the first time. I was scared after reading the posts, but the price was good. I had the best experience with them. My line wait was about 10 minutes. No pressure to upgrade. Picked up a great minivan (uplander) and drop off was easy as it is combined with National (which was familiar to us). While I love National and would use them again if they ever become competitive, I would never pay the type of money you quoted. There is a fine line to being loyal and being nuts. Good luck and I hope you find a better rate, even if it's with National.

HOLEY MOLEY. $777.

I have a 18 day with Alamo for $285.
I prefer National too but the price difference is just too much lately.

We just got the letter from National inviting us us back for another year as Executive members. Thank you but could you please lower your prices?
We used Alamo for the first time, earlier this month and were quite happy with them too.
My next rental is with National but I'm using my free days, so it will cost nothing.

You can sign up for Alamo's *********** rental agreement and by-pass the counter too.

We just signed up and haven't received our *********** I.D. number but should get it within five days. There's another thread on this board about someone who has QS and used it and was just as happy with it as they were with the National one. Check it out on the Alamo web site. Click on the Programs button at the top, then Corporate programs, then Free Qucksliver Enrollment.

Is there anyone out there who has had a back experience with QS?

Aren't Alamo and National sister companies now, anyway? Whenever I get on one of their websites, and can't find a car or location I want, I see a link to the other site to give that a try. Besides that, their desks always seem to be shared. This is especially true at the Dolphin desk at WDW.

I looked at National and Alamo for an upcoming trip, and it was pretty expensive. I ended up looking on Thrifty.com and found a "luxury vehicle", which is supposed to be a Chrysler 300 or similar, for $235 for an 8-day rental. The rate at National for anything similar to that or an suv would have been at least $100 more for that period.

Keep in mind that Alamo now has "online check-in", which apparently gives their customers similar features to EA with National.

Hey, watch the language! :rotfl2:

Sorry, couldn't resist making a bad joke.

Do the mods really dislike some service Alamo offers enough to blank out the word? Bizarre ...

I'm not sure. I'm wondering if maybe that word has more than one meaning?

Guys it isn't all about the rates. I'll take my Hertz #1 Club Gold program over better rates any day. 1) I get dropped off, into my car and leave 2) #1 club gold keeps all new vehicles. when they get old they go over to standard renters. 3) my vacation time is moiney and I save tons of time with them. I've rented over 100 times with hertz and never evn once has there been anything but steelar vehicles and service. If you choose to bargain hunt you will get bargain probelms.

Lets get back on topic here. I don't want to lose my second chance here. I gotta stop getting sucked in with this stuff. National has gone up in price that is for sure.

Oh, yes. I've read about the old qsilver limo company. I suppose Alamo has a service that goes by the same name. Hopefully the Alamo service is more reputable than the limo company. ;)

Let's try it out: Daitcher! Just wanted to see if I could away with that. If I did, I must have a quick wit and/or a silver tongue.

ETA: Hey it worked without showing a bunch of asterisks! That must mean I'm *********** or something. Make that quick$ilver or something. :lmao:

I have a rate of $142.10 for 6 days, 3/31 - 4/6 on National EA, used the AmEx code 5125601, WWEB nad ND39 $30 off coupon...no one else could touch that.

I understand you can get really good rates with the AMX card but if you don't have one, (and I understand they ask for it) Alamo is giving the best rates right now compared to National - at least for what codes and coupons I can use.

I actually just booked a minivan off national (I've been watching, it hadn't been less than $380 via Amex, EC). I went directly to their website and they had a promotion, I clicked & got $290 total for a week. However this wasn't with my Emerald Club, so I called to add my # to the reservation...and the price dropped to $283.

I'm so happy...I had budget for like $360, but really wanted National.

So sometimes, really no codes are better that codes.
