I've got gay and lesbians as friends or even family, so this isn't a anti gay lesbian post... But sometimes I wonder that forumsections like this although well intended actually make discrimination worse.....

I mean a different section while on the other had we are all supposed to treat eachother equal?

Just a wild thought..... :confused3

This particular board was created because gay/lesbian travelers to Disney, and other destinations for that matter, do come across unique situations and questions that the heterosexual community might otherwise take for granted or even realize exist. A perfect example is one DIS'er who was concerned that he and his boyfriend might face some level of discomfort when asking for a king bed when they checked in. Also, if you see below, there's a thread about commitment ceremonies in Disney World and whether they were allowed.

Mind you, presenting a board like this to the general community is not reserved only for gay/lesbian people. It's for EVERYONE, to think otherwise is not just a little discriminatory in and of itself. If you look carefully at the posters, you will notice a rather large number of folks who stop by and post that are happily heterosexual. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Also, it WOULD be disciminatory if gays and lesbians were not allowed to post on other boards and ONLY use this board, but obviously that is not the case. I see the boards as inclusive, and this is just another board to make sure everyone who travels to WDW can find a place to have their questions answered and to feel comfortable asking whatever question they might have.

I also like this boards presence here on the DIS because it makes gays and lesbians less invisible. It reminds people who might not come into contact with out gays and lesbians very often that we are everywhere, including standing next to them in lines at WDW.

Just as Rick said, there are many of us straight folks who post and hang out here from time to time, but also you need to see that there are Solo traveler forum, college kids forum, teen forum, etc etc....None of those would be discriminating? I think there is a great comfort in having this spot for people to post freely and not worry about the people who WOULD gay bash elsewhere , because if they don't want to see/read it, then they don't have to view this particular folder. My only question to the OP is; why would a gay/lesbian forum be any more discriminating then a UK, Canadian, or Spanish speaking forum?

Exactly...just another special interest group....pin traders, restaurant critics, etc.

However...just as an addition...it is a "safe" place where we can post questions, suggestions, etc without worrying about getting hate mail from less enlightened ones.

Everyone has support groups and rap groups, not to sound to 60's. Heck there's something for everyone..so why not? As long as we don't exclude and practice what we preach, the more the merrier.
