Discovering DVC timandlesley style-A PTR, 19 days TRIP REPORT LINK PG.119!!!!!

Thanks! If you are in this area, i suggest Dayton or Indianapolis, Cincy is always outrageous. But the best deal we've found BY FAR is Southwest out of Columbus. Last year we found a great hotel that had free shuttle, free breakfast and we were able to leave our car for the entire trip, only 119 for the night!!!! GREAT DEAL! Plus Southwest airlines doesn't charge for your first two bags, still serves snacks on the plane, etc. GREAT airline!
Lesley

That sounds like a great deal!!! That is so nice that the hotel let you keep your car there for the entire trip---no fees for long-term parking at the airport!!! SWEET! We live in Northern KY--literally 5 minutes from the Cincy airport, but have no qualms about driving up to Dayton or Columbus for a good rate on a flight, because you know we aren't going to find it through Cincy!!!! We are thinking about going in September---when is a good time to look for a great rate? Thanks for the help!!!

Hi guys...
So, we have had a revelation today and have mad a big decision in regards to our trip................................................................................
..............................................................................................
..............................................................................................
drumroll please...........................................................................
..................................................................................................
................................................................................................
We have decided to...........................................................................
.....................................................................................................
....................................................................................................
DRIVE TO ORLANDO INSTEAD OF FLY!!!!!
We decided, 16 days in Orlando we would want our car, plus to cost savings is a win win:thumbsup2
Tim (in usual Tim style) decided he wanted to announce this on our Dis thread by creating a slideshow (hence the "shut up and drive" song). I have TRIED AND TRIED to post this to photobucket tonight but it is too big (HUGE BUMMER), so we posted on youtube,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGTx9j5SfT0
O.K., edited today: looks like they deleted the audio on Youtube, check it out on my blog instead:
www.livinglifeaslesley.blogspot.com
I am hoping this link works, it is some of Tim's best work and funny and MAKES US WANT TO GO TOMORROW!!!!!
Enjoy!!!!

Lesley
some of his best work, I just love it. We all watched it together as a family tonight

LOVE the slide show!!! Thanks for sharing it with us! Made me want to hop in the car and head there!!!

You know, we have driven our last three trips, never minded the drive too much. It can be part of the fun experience for you all.......and I would think that being down there as long as you are going to be, having the car will be a blessing!

Driving will definitely give you some freedom!
I agree!

We love having a car there. We haven't drove down, but usually rent one. Our last trip we didn't and we felt so trapped!

How long is the drive?
Thanks, we can't wait to try it! It is 14 hours without stops, so about 16 total probably, we'll leave at 6am.
TTA is listed as being closed 4/19-8/19 and Space is listed as 4/19- 11/09!

Awesome video...great job Tim!:thumbsup2 That is great you will have your car!:goodvibes
BUMMER!!!
Great job, Tim! LOVED the video!!! :thumbsup2 It will be nice having a car...
Glad you enjoyed it!

oh, lesley, you guys will LOVE having your car there. we always do (makes more sense for us since it's only a 7-hour drive) and we do the busses about half the time and drive about half the time. it will cut so much time off your transportation time plus you get to park for free everywhere when you stay on property. the only place it's a pain is at MK because you have to park at the TTC and then get on the ferry or the monorail to get there whereas with a bus you just pull right up to the entrance. good decision! i know it'll be quite a trip from ohio but you guys will be okay. if you decide to stop in georgia let me know!!!!! ;)
Thanks, we can't wait to give it a try. Will use transportation mostly but will use the car for early morning breakfasts or getting to DTD from AK, etc. we'll see how much we end up using it. Think we'll drive straight through, but thanks for the offer!!!!
LEsley

All Ears says "until late 2009". We'll miss it for our nearly two-week extravaganza in May. :guilty: :sad2:

We're driving in May from Fairborn (just up the road from you), so we'll probably take the same route. We've driven twice before but from northcentral Ohio, so that takes us down 77 most of the way. We actually really like the drive. Load up on the Disney CDs/movies and enjoy! I think you'll LOVE having the car there - so nice not to fight lines for buses, and since you use TGM, you'll always have a good parking spot up front when you pull into a park. Plus everyone gets a seat at the end of the day. Think of all the creative car games you can create - Disney 20 questions (our favorite), Car Bingo, the Disney alphabet game, etc.

ETA: I forgot one of my favorite perks of having the car there. It takes us literally 10-15 minutes to get to the parks! That saves time to sleep in in the mornings and the waits at the bus. We leave at 8:15 to get to, say, DHS by 8:30. SOOOOOOOOOOO nice!
Sounds good, great ideas. Thanks for the early morning tips too.
Lesley

I think it was to get people in during May. or they expect after the 14th to be really busy and they don't need to have something going on. either way it stinks.

Good idea of the car. I would love to drive down but Biff will not do it.

Watched some of the video and it looked great. :thumbsup2
I agree, stinks!!! Glad you enjoyed the video.

Lesley - Once you have a car down there you will never want to be there without one. Trust me!
We'll see : )

So cool! I can't wait to watch the video! I'm at work so I'll have to wait until later!
Hope you enjoyed it when you got a chance.

Loved the video. Driving is not so bad. Not a drive I'd want to do every day or every month, but not bad.
It is such a huge savings, especially with gas coming down. We went down and back for $75.00 in early Dec. :thumbsup2 Much better than $800.00 to fly.
Plus you can take whatever you want. Save up some new movies the kids haven't seen and keep them for your trip, they'll do fine.
I decided if we ever go just 2 people flying is worth considering, but for 4, the drive is much cheaper.
My Cinci family I've spoken to you about drove last year. I don't remember their drive time?
Huge savings is good with me. Our drive time is a little over 14 hours without stops, well see how long it takes us : )

The pictures of the video were great but I had no sound it said it was muted b/c of copyrights. :confused3 I liked all the pictures though and sang "Shut Up and drive in my head" and I am sure that the song will be stuck in my head for the rest of the night. Something about those Rihanna songs...they never leave my head!

Driving will be a great choice espeically since you will be there for so long. I was just saying last night that if DH and I eventually move to VA like we want to that I would drive to Disney more often.
Glad you enjoyed the video, reposted with music, sorry about that!

The video was great.:thumbsup2
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

Hi Lesley. I just wanted to say that I have read your pre-trip reports and trip reports and now have gotten caught up with yet again with this amazing pre-trippie! You helped us out with our itinerary for our first trip and I wanted to say thank you again. The video is awesome (THANKS TIM!!) You all are very brave driving down. We have done it two times now and it's no easy task. You and your family has been through so much and I've been right there with you guys. Thanks for letting us all into your lives and keep up with the great job you all are doing! God bless.

-Amber
So glad you found us again and enjoyed the video. You are quite welcome, it's OUR PLEASURE!!!

Lesley, you will love having your own car! During our last trip we finally rented a car and now I can't imagine ever going to disney without one. It was so nice to leave the parks, get in the car and be back at the resort in no time :thumbsup2

Kristina
Thanks, can't wait! Can I leave tomorrow???

Thanks for sharing the video! Very cute and creative!:lovestruc

We went to Disney for the first time this past November for 12 days and we drove 10 hours. We did it in 2 days because of our daughter (I just didn't think she would do well in the car for 10 hours in one day). My DH and DD wanted to fly, but I am terrified at the thought of getting on a plane. Besides, we took my DH's company car and used hotel points, so the trip down didn't cost a dime:thumbsup2 . But I have to say, even I wished we had flown after 2 days on the road. It just seemed to eat into our trip too much. I kept thinking......"we could be at Disney right now if we had flown".

And maybe it was because we were new to Disney and it all seemed so massive and intimidating to drive around, but our car never moved from the hotel parking lot for the 12 days we were there. I never even thought about the car. The buses were too easy. But it was not crowded at all when we were there. Since you are going in July, I'm sure the buses and other transportation will be crazy. I am very interested in how it will work out for you. Please do let us know how the kids handle it and how you like driving around WDW. Maybe it will help me to decide what to do on our next trip..........whenever that might be:rolleyes:

Can you drive it one day from where you are or will you have to stay overnight?
I will announce soon what we are doing, we'll be driving straight through. Thanks for your post!

I have been following your reports and they are great. You have gave me lots of great advice.

We drove one trip and flew the next time.

Driving has it's good points and bad. It takes us about 14 hours. We drive over half way and stay the night in a hotel and then drive the rest of the way the next day. It can be tiring, but it can be good b/c you have that alone time with the family. I bought new movies, books for the kids and that helps alot. The good thing about driving you can take things with you. So I had bottled water, breakfast food and such.

When we flew it was super nice. My husband who does most of the driving wasn't tired and he was ready to go when we got to Disney, so that is the nice thing about flying.

We are going back this year and we were going to drive but his parents decided to go and they do not want to drive. So we are flying.

So whatever you do will work out as long as you get to go to Disney!

Regina
Thanks, glad you enjoy the report and the tips. We drove 2 years ago and the kids did well, we'll see how it works this year : )
Lesley

Southwest is a good deal, worth the trip with that hotel (Baymont Inn and Suites) I believe.
Good luck with trip planning and airfare, what fun.

So I am sure glad we are driving now, I'm gonna need the extra money for our Annual Passes, they released the upped prices for 2009 and it is a dramatic increase, I will now need 300+ dollars more for our AP's. In this economy I can't believe they are raising ticket prices, especially at the rate they are raising them. COME ON DISNEY!!!:scared1:
O.K., rant over.

Now for my HAPPY news.

As you know we are driving now. Well, we mapquested it and it will take 14.5 hours to get there, we figure probably 16 hours or so with stops. We plan on leaving at 6 am on Sunday (Father's Day which I feel bad about, but Tim's decision to drive :rolleyes1 ) that should put us to Orlando by 10 pm or so. Well.............. we had an extra 11 developer points that we weren't going to use, NOW WE GET TO USE THEM! I got us a 1 night reservation (for free using developer points) for June 21st. We'll arrive late that night, pull a small suitcase filled with items just for the night (see my planning already:rotfl: ) into the room, hit the hay for some HEAVENLY DISNEY SLEEP in DISNEY BEDS:cloud9: ahhhhh, i can feel them now:cloud9:
and wake up, drive over to AKL and check in and HIT THE PARKS!!!!!!
Soooooooooooooo excited, just had to share!
Lesley

It is amazing that they are increasing the tickets again and at the rate that they are! Where did you end up booking the extra night at? How are the ADR's coming?

That is great you will get full use out of your developer points!!:thumbsup2 We will be checking in to SSR the same day!!!:goodvibes

Lesley - I have to say you may be inspiring us to finally drive. We live in Maryland about 20 minutes from BWI airport and flying is just so easy. We are also going the end of June this year. With the falling gas prices, could save some $$ this year - something to think about.

Enjoying your report as always!
Sorry to hear they raised the ticket prices :confused3

Thanks for sharing tim video with us. That was great:goodvibes

That stinks AP passes went up that much:scared1:

/
That does stink about the AP price increase!
Disney has to make up their loses in giving
the buy 4 nites, get 3 nites free!!! Theres a
method to their madness!!!!:lmao: ;)

I was shocked when I read that about the ticket increases earlier today! What is Disney thinking? On the one hand there are all the discounts they are offering because people aren't traveling much, on the other hand they are increasing ticket prices -- where is the logic in that???

You will love having a car at Disney. We drive down everytime, but end up using buses to go to the theme parks -- however we do use the car to go to our resort ADRs and Downtown Disney -- you will love how quickly you get to those.

It is amazing that they are increasing the tickets again and at the rate that they are! Where did you end up booking the extra night at? How are the ADR's coming?
I know, can you believe it!!! We are at Saratoga Springs that first night just for the night since it is the only resort we can use our developer points at.

Glad I could be an inspiration. What kind of a drive is it from Maryland (hours wise?)
Lesley

Glad you enjoyed it, I'm sure there will be more to come.
I think I may have been mistaken about the drastic AP passes, I think I was looking at the premium AP's (thanks DDSrunner for pointing that out) but still what is disney thinking upping prices at this time in our economy!?!?!
Lesley

Definitely have a method. Also that 30 dollars for double strollers per day also make up the difference!

That is what we will do, just drive to resort ADR's and DTD, sounds like a great time saver, thanks for sharing your experience.
Lesley

I think you will be happy with your decision to drive. I like to drive to most parks, have even driven to MK, and it really is not bad. The tram in the parking lot picks you up and takes you to the monorail or boat. It was nice to not have to get on a packed bus at closing! Of course the drive from WI is many more hours, but I either rent a car or my DD brings hers. Cute video too.:)

Do you still have one of those thick brochures called Your Guide to the Magic that they always put in your check-in folders? In the back there is a real map of the WDW complex complete with road names and traffic lights. It has proven to be invaluable for us. I tore it out and laminated it for the car.

Hey Lesley!! I found this online and wanted to show you! I know we had posted about the Pal Mickey and if it would work or not!! Well, check this out!!

Pal Mickey Discontinued

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a result of our efforts to evaluate product offerings as technology continues to evolve, Pal Mickey, the interactive plush that was introduced in 2003 for use at the four Walt Disney World® Theme Parks, will be discontinued. Although Pal Mickey will no longer be available for purchase, the interactive plush will continue to operate in the four theme parks as they do today.
We anticipate the Pal Mickey plush toy to be available through the next couple months as merchandise locations sell existing items in stock. As merchandise locations sell through their existing stock of the Pal Mickey plush toy, the remaining Pal Mickeys will be available for purchase while supplies last at the following locations:
Island Mercantile at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park
The Dark Room at Disney’s Hollywood Studios™
Epcot Camera Center and MouseGear at Epcot®
Emporium at Magic Kingdom® Park
World of Disney® store at Downtown Disney® Marketplace

Thanks, I think so too. I don't forsee us driving to the parks much, but definitely for early morning ADR's, different hotel ADR's and DTD,etc. Will be nice to be able to save money and bring all that food and water in with us too!!!:thumbsup2

Sooooooooooo, as you know, we will be in WDW for 16 days, AHHHHHHHHHHH, it sounds good just saying that!!!
for the first six nights we are going to be at AKL and we have decided to do deluxe dining for that part of the trip (hey, why not live it up for our first trip "home" with DVC, right?:confused3 ;) )
So for that part of the trip we get 12 credits per night for the 4 of us. Then we go to Saratoga Springs for the remaining 9 nights of our trip and for that part of our trip we are doing REGULAR dining. For that part we get 36 counter service credits for the four of us and 36 sit down credits for the four of us.
So......... needless to say it has been a little tricky trying to figure out how to get the most bang for our buck, when to use C.S. credits for sit downs/vs. counter service, for breakfasts when on regular dining or to pay out of pocket, etc.
I decided the best method was to print out a calendar for June and July and write down the parks we plan on being at, sketch in the restaraunts, each meal, and how many credits for each (I won't bore you with that).
But here are the FINAL DECISIONS!!!! We can call in March to get ressie's, CAN'T WAIT!

June 21st: We will arrive for a ONE night stay at SSR using the last of our developer points, we will be exhausted after a LONG day in the car.
June 22nd: Official first day at AKL:
Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch (we loved it so much, have to go back!)
LeCellier dinner
June 23rd: Tusker House for Breakfast (hoping for an 8 am ressie)
Mama Melrose Dinner
June 24th: Teppenyaki (Epcot/Japan) for lunch
Kona Cafe for dinner
June 25th: Yak and Yeti Lunch
Boma dinner FIRST TIME EATING HERE!!!!
June 26th: Sci Fi lunch (kids can't wait!)
Tutio Italia dinner (FIRST TIME SINCE REMODEL/NEW NAME)
or California Grill for just Tim and I (put kids in childcare) we'll see how we're doing at this point in our trip to see what we're up for this night.
June 27th: Askershus princess lunch
Hoop De Doo Review Dinner (FIRST TIME!!!)
June 28th: Crystal Palace Breakfast (hoping for 8:00 ressie)
Spoodles dinner (FIRST TIME!!!)
June 29th: Coral Reef Dinner
June 30th: 1900 Park Fare Dinner (First time seeing Godmother/stepsisters)
July 1st: Wolfgang Puck dinner (first time!) or eat at Beaches and Cream on this night or ESPN club, but can't make a ressie
July 2nd: 50's Prime Time Cafe
July 3rd: Chef Mickey's (for the kids : )
July 4th: (we're gonna lay low at SSR this day, hope it's a sunny pool day)
Turf Club Bar and Grill at SSR lunch (FIRST TIME!!!)
OHana's for dinner ( YUM, YUM, DOUBLE YUM!!!)
fireworks on the Poly Beach
July 5th: Biergarten dinner (FIRST TIME!!!!)
July 6th: Plaza Restaraunt dinner (FIRST TIME!!!)

Then we leave on July 7th, will only have 2 C.S. to burn before we hit the LONG road back home:sad2: :sad1:

So.......................... what are your thoughts??? Look good? Anything major we are missing that we should try and change out????

Lesley

Looks awesome :thumbsup2

Your trying alot of new places which is great

Hopefully all the ressies work out :wizard:

Side note:
We have driven many times from NY and it has worked out for us you guys are a great team you should be fine :)

Oh, I hope you guys love Boma as much as we do! It's our favorite place to eat on the entire property!!!

The rest of your choices look great, too! I am still tinkering with all of our ADRs -- there are a couple of places that I am torn about. I think I want to eat at LTT for lunch one day and 50's Prime Time, but we may opt for a 2-credit signature instead. Decisions, decisions. ;)

Looks great Lesley!:thumbsup2 I am almost done with ours too! Have you ever been to the plaza for lunch? We are thinking of doing this on the afternoon we leave:confused3 It will actually be Bryan's birthday and he wants to go to the MK on his birthday! Did you make a request at Saratoga for your 1 night on the 21st?:goodvibes I just thought...now that you have a ressie for the 21st you can call for your ADR'S a day earlier now too! Woo Hoo!

Diane

Tim did a great job on the video. The ressies look good, too. I think you made a good decision with the driving this time. 16 days is a long trip and it will be nice to have your car to use if you want

Oh that looks like some good eatin':rotfl2: You will love the stepsisters and Lady Tremaine. They were so funny. Our poor dd4 was scared of her but her autie told that she was scarier than Lady Tremain so that made her feel better:rotfl2: Boma is so nice for dinner and they have an amazing breakfast buffet as well. yum yum. Great slide show and wow on the decision to drive. It'll be great to be able to bring food with you.
