Discover card 5% cashback on theme parks

Does anyone know if paying for a Disney resort reservation qualifies? Also, if using a TA to book, is the payment still made directly to Disney or to TA who then pays Disney, I.e. who appears as the merchant on card statement?

IIRC a few years back Discover had the 5% deal for hotels, so I paid my KTTW charges at my resort with DS and got the 5%. As far as booking your package with the DS card, yes, most TA's have Disney process your card, but it's Walt Disney Travel Company that is paid, and I'd think it's considered a trip/travel booking and not a theme park purchase.

I think (no proof!) that if you used Discover in the actual parks, at a cart or store or ticket window for example, that it could be considered a Theme Park purchase, depends how DS has those classified. Sometimes credit card classifications for vendors can be a little quirky.

We've never had good luck with Discover card and how they classify purchases at DW, had trouble in the past with how certain restaurants are classified. Although we have used it successfully for booking a room when they had hotel promos.

I specifically asked someone at Discover and the person assured me that she would verify that I got credited in full. There is a maximum of $75 though. So I had Disney charge $1500 of my trip instead of a $200 deposit. That way I get full advantage w/o having to pay any more than I have to. I'll put the balance on my brand new Disney Visa card for those points.

Its funny you should ask this question, as I just called Discover today because they did not give me the cashback credit for tickets I had purchased thru Disney. They said, they do not consider Disney World a theme park, so the 5% did not apply. But because I assumed it would apply to this purchase, them gave me the cashback credit on my account anyway. You could try the same thing I did, but I suppose it depends who you talk to whether you would have the same results
