Discover Apple Pay 10% Back - In Store Purchase

Pillow,

Were you able to use your Visa gift card on Raise or Cardpool? I didn't think these gift card websites accepted Visa gift cards. Would be great if they did.
I don't know for a fact for Visa Gift Card, but I had a rebate reimbursed me as an American Express Prepaid card and I tried buying the exact amount on Cardpool and it was cancelled in the end.

After calling American Express, they informed me that it's because Cardpool put a dollar charge on the card, then tried to charge the full amount and the funds were denied. Tried contacting Cardpool to get a go around, but they didn't do anything about it all.

So maybe just have a little more than what you are purchasing should work? It looks like it was processed like a credit card in the end.

Well, that puts a damper on things! I am going to WDW in November. I wonder how easy it will be to use apple pay there?? It says the 10% promotion is good at WDW. I wonder if it will work in all of the restaurants?

I'm sure you'll be fine. I don't have Apple pay and was going to use a family members to pick up some gift cards for my trip since I won't have Apple Pay in the parks.

I have never used apple pay before but I do have an iPhone 6 and was planning to try and figure it out before I go to WDW. Test in a store near where I live to see how it works. Now that we know the promotion doesn't work on gift cards, I may consider buying some extra tickets while in the world for a future trip. At least I would be able to get the 10% while in WDW.

I registered the card first, and then paid on Cardpool. The transaction initially went through but was eventually cancelled (they cited an inventory issue). It looked to me like they had already sold the card I had attempted to purchase. So I'm not really sure if it was cancelled due to inventory or my payment method. I didn't bother trying again.

I can't see your attachment for some reason. Where are you seeing that gift cards won't work? Seems like Discover would just see a charge from the merchant. How would they know what you're buying?

That's what their rep is telling people on Twitter, but my problem is that it doesn't say that anywhere else and gift cards are good in all of their other cashback bonuses.

I just read on one of the frequent flyer sites that it is stated in the terms that its not good on gift card purchases. I'm not sure how it would be enforceable though. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I wonder if you could get around it like you can on ebates, by buying a qualifying item with your purchase.

Sorry, first time attaching on mobile. It was just a copy paste from Twitter with Discocer saying the discount is valid on all purchases not including gift cards. They repeated it over and over starting today on their official Twitter feed. It wasn't something they ever mentioned before. It took Discover all of 1 day to figure out that everyone was buying gift cards apparently.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I don't think they have any way of knowing what it is I purchased. It would be rediculous if they did exclude them. I've already did the deal I posted earlier. If I would have known I could have simply went to the Disney store to npbuy tickets for the 11% cash back versus purchasing gift cards. It's strange they are now trying to add that term and it's only on Twitter as far as I can tell. It's posted nowhere else.

UPDATE!! I decided to test this again, but on Raise instead of Cardpool (seems like too many issues with Cardpool lately). I was able to purchase a $10 Target gift card on Raise, paying with a Visa gift card that I had previously purchased at Kroger. The card says Visa Debit, but I did not set up a pin. I registered the card online first and then used it like a credit card. I'm not sure if it matters (but perhaps it does for authorization purposes??) . . . the card had a balance of $75 when I made the above purchase.

This is a little bit off the direction of the thread but has anyone actually tried to use Apple Pay with a Discover Card at Disney? We tried and it failed, multiple times, multiple locations. We thought it was Disney's system. Come to find out, they are one of a few merchants that Discover is not working correctly with yet. Has anyone else had the same problem? Make sure and let Discover know so that they fix the problem more quickly. They basically said, the more people that call, the faster it will be fixed. As I am sure others do, I really want to take advantage of the 10% cashback promotion! Be wary if you have a trip and were counting on this extra incentive.

Was there any place at Disney World that you tried that you can confirm it DID work?

I just checked out of Poly and I had 5 employees helping me for 3 days trying to get the apple pay to work. Finally heard back from Disney IT that it does NOT work at the parks and that they will be doing an update to their system. The Poly employee said it may be 2 weeks or more. We go back in December, so I hope it is working then. I also tried several stores at WDW to see if it would work, but no success. I was successful using it at the Disney Store in Texas... apparently the WDW systems and Disney Store sytems are not linked in any way.
