I am thinking of running the Marathon next January (2009) and I am wondering if Disney offers a room discount to people running the marathon. Does anyone know? If so, how much of a discount?

Thanks,
Michele

I think they offer packages to runners, but they go pretty fast. Once the marathon is open for registration, they should have information about the packages.

I just ran the 2008 marathon two days ago, and it was a great experiance. They do send you an email a few days after you register for the race with their packages for runners. I remember them as being good deals, but not unbelievably good deals.

I passed on their marathon packages, because I was planning on renting DVC points. Too bad that fell through. The good news is I found a great Caribe Royale discount online and that's where we stayed. We liked it a lot - It reminded me of the Swan, but not quite as nice. It was nice having a suite for less money though. I may run the marathon in 2009 too, and I'll try to get a room in the Epcot resort area - the race goes right through there making it very easy for your family to cheer you on.

Good luck - I highly recommend doing the marathon whether you get a good discount or not.

There is a marathon package. And I think that started booking during marathon weekend.
Before moving here, we use to vacation here during that time so DH could run the marathon.
We had traveled using room only's and once booked a package. (Non-marathon sports package.)

I remember being offered a small discount package. We did not take it as we planned to use DVC. I don't remember when but Disney offered a great discount for the days leading up to the marathon that more than made up for paying full price for the weekend (we stayed 8 nights).

I volunteered this year at the Marathon events ( the Thurs/Fri before the actual races) and saw lots of people checking in at Pop Century. They also had bus transportation for people going to/from WWOS to register and for the morning of the races which I *think* was from all the WDW resorts. This would be one reason I'd stay on property. Unfortunately I don't know what the discount, if any, was for those guests. I just wanted to say "congratulations" to anyone who attempted either of the races. I can't imagine the training that went into such a competition which I'd consider a major accomplishment!---Kathy

Google "Anthony Travel" - they're the ones that handle the packages for marathon weekend.

a friend called and got a "marathon price" and i did teh math and it was about 27% off. i called and got the same info excpt the price they quotes me was only like 12% off. what gives?!?

Probably depends on the dates, room views/types, resorts, availability, etc.

i called for the package and the price quoted was no different than if i did it my self. they say it included the bus but hey everyone could get on the bus not just the package. i used other discounts and got a better deal:cool1: sometimes the packages are not all they are cracked up to be. compare everything and i called early

what other discount did you get? i called again yesterday and they gave me a room and package discount of about 22% off both

when we called for packages the quote given us was the exact same as if we bought everything seperate. when i asked about it she told me it was because the bus was included. everyone can take the bus. this is the first time we did room only reservations. (we have gone 5 times in 5 years always on a deal or package) as it got closer we checked for new deals. somewhat risky but did end up getting a woodsview room at wl for cheaper than the standard room. we did the 5k and the half marathon and it was awsome. would love to do it again but my husband is all mickey moused out:eek:
