I have noticed there are discounts for government employees--does this include firefighters?

 How about sheriffs department officers?

Not sure which discounts you are talking about but usually it is pretty specific. I think by government some hotels means workers on government business.

My brother (a firefighter) was able to get the government rate at either the Swan or Dolphin---not sure which. My other brother (law officer) was able to get the same discount. I believe they will honor any type of government employment---federal --state---local---county to qualify for the discount.

My DH is NYPD.:) We're looking for Oct rates.

Thanks!

Last year the discount rate for Swan/Dolphin was $99/night. I think it may have gone up a little bit, though.

My husband and I (state worker) were able to get a standard room at the Dolphin for $129.00 a night in May!!! These rooms usually go for $300.00 or more. Although it is not Disney owned, you have all the same perks - early entry, use of Disney transportation, availability of E-ticket nights and preferential seating for dining and such. Just give them a call directly - I do not have a state I.D. but they told me I could bring the most recent paystub to identify myself.
Also I saw on a recent post that someone got a rate (standard) for military personnel at the Contemporary for $78.00 a night - don't know how true that is but you could check on rates for firefighter, police officer and medical personnel. Good luck!!!

Also if you are not planning on staying onsite there is a website www.getravelop.com that has weekly timeshare rentals for $249..any kind of government employee is eligible.

Does anyone know if volunteer EMS personell are elegible for discount rates at the Polynesian? We are DVC members, but alas, we have used all of our points for thsi year, so we have to pay big bucks for a room at the Polynesian in February. Thanks!

Yes, I would also be interested in knowing if volunteer FD are elegible for discount rates.
Thanks

We just stayed at the Swan using the nurse/teacher/government employee discount. The cost of the room was $129/night, and I consider it one of the best deals on property. The hotel is great, the rooms are beautiful. We were travelling in a big group, and one of the couples was a doctor/physicians assistant. They were not able to get the discount even though they were technically medical professionals, so I am not sure if they'd bend the rules for an EMT. They were very stringent about it being a nurse, teacher, or government employee. I actually had to show them my nursing license. When I made the reservation, the person told me that I had to bring something that said RN on it, whether it was my nursing license, my hospital ID badge or something, and if I didn't have it at check-in, I would not receive the discount. If you are one of the people who fall under the discount category (nurse, teacher, or govt. employee) you can book up to 3 rooms with the discount rate.

The Swan & Dolphin are the only hotels that offer government rates that I know of. The only other is Shades of Green, which is strictly for active military, retired military, and Dept. of Defense employees.

You might want to check the Downtown Disney area hotels (Hilton, Courtyard Marriott, Grosvenor, etc.). They may offer different rates.

:earseek: WOW, I have never heard of this discount. I always knew gov employees/military got discounts but not nurses or teachers. As an R.N. (and I have family members who are teachers) how do I find out about these discounts and which hotels offer them. Do you know if the Disney Cruise Line offers any % off? (I can dream, can't I;) )
TIA, Pat

The only hotels that offer these are the Swan and Dolphin.

Thanks everyone for your answers. When I called the Poly I was told that no discounts avail for service personell. We may try the Dolphin and Swan on another trip. BTW- we were at Universal last year, they offered discounts to fire and EMS personell. Don't know if that offer is still available.

all hotel chains offer "GOV"T" discounts. I stay at Marriotts Hiltons, Wyndhams, all hotels offer them and the rate is regulated and different depending on location ina particular state. The GOV'T rate in orlando is $129. The Peabody in Orlandoa 5 Star hotel also offer this discount. You have you call or check their website to make sure that the rate is extended to Local goverment workers (i.e. police, firefighters etc.). Myhusband is a NYC Police Officer and we always travel using the Local Gov't government rate at Marriott or Hilton, or whatever hotel that we can find that is offering the rate. If you have any questions your more than welcome to contact me. Thanks.

Thank you for that info about getting a gov't rate at the major hotel chains--it will come in handy as we will be driving to Orlando from Chicago. Yikes:eek:

The only times that all the Disney Hotels offered discounts on passes and hotels for any of their onsite properties, was after 9/11. They came out with a Heroes package that offered these discounts to any Fire, Police or EMS and military worker that wroked at Ground Zero, PA or the Pentagon. They were issued through your departments. A lot of our people went on them and took advantage and they expired in April 2002.

Othen than that, most major chains offer discounts for gov't employees. Ask when you call.
