Discounted Annual Passes - Information and Official Exchange Thread

So I read Cheshire's post. I bought my DVC annual pass on May 10th at the gates at the Magic Kingdom. It seems from Cheshire's post that I am eligible for the discount if I email guest services with my ticket info and the name and info from someone's referral card and they will do what? Send me a check for the difference? I am a little confused about that part. If this is possible, I would love someone's referral card to get the added discount and get someone the gift card. Let me know if anyone has had any luck doing this. Thanks

Figured I'd give this a bump to see if anyone has successfully used the discount by emailing guest relations after buying the pass at the gates during the time period. I just wanted to see if someone knew how they do the refund? If they send you a check or what have you. Thanks in advance if anyone knows.

I have started through the thread to see if I can find someone who already posted, but it is a long thread so any help would be appreciated.
 

As we're no long DINKS (Double Income No Kids) going to Disney has been hard to do. Haven't been in a while. We would love a discount voucher! Please.. What do I need to do?
 
Yes, but we have 5 passes & only 2 of us got the four pass along cards. :confused3 So, in all, we got 8 cards to share. We would've gotten 20 cards IF each of us had gotten them. :teacher:
According to the Disney website,
Mickey Monitor newsletter, mailed in February, May, August and November, includes additional benefits and program updates. Only one newsletter per active Walt Disney World Passholder household is mailed within the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

I had a lot of trouble with this last week. We arrived at DTD and we always purchase our passes there. The CM said unless I knew the full name of the person that gave me the discount pass they would not give me the discount.

I said I didnt know the first name, I was honest and explained that I received it from someone on line in a Disney Forum, it is a sharing pass...the CM said that unless they have the full name they cannot give that person the gift card...the passes are only supposed to be for people they know and they cannot give them out on line to strangers...I asked her what did it matter, there is a bar code on the bottom of the ticket, doesnt that tell you who the person is? There is a last name on the bottom of the ticket, you should be able to cross reference them...the CM literally argued with me for 10 minutes before DH asked to see a supervisor. I explained to her that the reason I was purchasing my AP's was because of this 10% off voucher, she didnt seem to care...she made a reference that it was just $75 and I said exactly so why are you making such a stink out of it?

The supervisor was clueless and looked to the CM as to what the rules were...they both argued with DH for a long time and I thought he was going to lose it...I mean Disney cannot give us the 10% and take the time to look up the persons name? He said lets forget it and get AP's for Universal instead. There was nothing on the card that said the person redeeming it had to know the first name of the person that gave them the card.

Then another supervisor came by and said to give me the 10% off and threatened me that if I went online and told everyone they would know it was me because they were making a special exception for me only....

Not for nothing, I saved $75 and if you add up all the money that I spend at WDW a year, 4-6 trips at 4-11 days each, that is alot of money they could lose just by arguing with me over something so small.

The worst part of it was the attitude of the CM, she was so snotty and rude with us and made us look like idiots in front of a long line of people

I hope you got all of their names and send this in to Guest Communcations. This is completely uncalled for. There is nothing in any of the documentation that says you must know the person who gave you the card, or their first name.
 
I just reread the letter we received with our cards, and it only says "Give passholder pass-along savings cards to some of your favorite people". Well anyone who loves Disney as much as I do is considered my "favorite people"!!!:goodvibes I have given the people who I have mailed the cards to my fist name so I hope there will not be any problems.

This is OUTRAGEOUS! My DH would have been so mad!:headache: I'm so sorry--thank you for the warning here!
 
A friend of mine used one of mine on a recent trip (Star Wars Weekend - had a blast :darth:). She had no trouble using it, but didn't mention if anyone asked for my first name. It probably depends on who you get, it's a shame because one thing I love about Disney is the great treatment you usually get from the cast members. I still have 3 discount cards left. Just PM me.

That is a truly lame excuse the CMs used. Get real, do they really think we are all stupid? If you don't have the full name the person won't get the gift cards? Come on Disney. What are you going to do when John Brown's friend redeems his discount card. Surely there are more than 1 John Brown with a Disney AP.

Disney should just state the real problem, threads like this. Disney is looking at this as, Person A got a 10% card from Person B that A doesn't even know. Person A was going to buy the AP anyways, now we're giving them a 10% discount, and sending Person B $25 gift cards for each AP purchased by this complete stranger.

Disney obviously wanted these discount cards to be an enticement for people to purchase an AP that weren't going to. But I ask this, outside of Florida, and this message board, is it really likely for someone like myself (in Michigan) to talk a friend or family member into purchasing an AP that will force them to most likely make multiple trips to Florida to take advantage of any savings?

I can see that happening (sarcasm). Oh you mean I can save about $40 or $50 on an annual pass to Disney World? I'll take it, now I just have to spend $1,000s for hotels, airfare, food, etc., etc.

Truth of the matter is, I would guess that the vast majority of people who would use this discount card were already going to purchase an AP regardless of whether or not they got a 10% discount. This doens't seem to be the best idea to come out of Disney's marketing department.
