discount question

I am looking into buying DVC points. What are the discounts for park passes and meal plans?

There is only a discount on AP "Annial Pass", which is a good one of $100 off regular price. So if you plan on visiting the parks over 8 times than the AP makes sense. Otherwise normal park hoppers would be ok and those will cost the normal price.

There are no discounts on meals. Well should say no. There is the DDE card if you are an AP holder. This entitles you to 20% meals and drinks at select rests..... Other discounts are few and far between, maybe 10% or so but again the amount of places offering this discount are few and far between.

I'm not sure what you mean by "buying DVC points". Are you considering becoming a DVC member or are you looking into "renting points" from a DVC member for an upcoming trip?

So, the points I buy can be put towards park passes also?

no.

points are good for accomodations. they can be a very good value if you like staying at one of the DVC resorts.

they are less of a good value when traded for cruises or other hotel/timeshare options, but can be used for those purposes.

they are pretty useless if you want to trade them for tickets or food.

good comment by lisa, so edited to add this disclaimer: the benefits discussed only apply to owning a DVC contract and not renting. renters are only eligible for accomodations and normal onsite benefits like EMH, but none of the DVC specific benefits/discounts.

When you buy a DVC membership, you are basically prepaying your accommodations at WDW or any of the DVC resorts for up to 50 years. There are no other "perks" or discounts guaranteed to you during that time. That being said, DVC DOES offer discounts at several restaurants and other Disney events like Cirque du Soliel, and behind the scenes tours to its members. The biggest single discount at the moment is $100 off the price of a WDW annual pass. Since your membership gives you the ability to go annually, this is a good deal! By fluctuating dates a week each year, you can get two annual trips on one annual pass.

AHA! Lisa, sorry I didn't read ahead before I posted. I think you hit the nail on the head!
