Discount options for October 2012?

I assumed we would be eligible for FD but I've read that a convention will be there during our stay and it's a blackout date. Last year's October dates did not appear to offer a room discount either.

Are there other options? I have AAA but haven't been able to figure out what kind of discount they offer. I booked with a TA, but it is not AAA - does that matter?

I checked this week for a pin offer and had no luck.

I really don't want to pay full price for this vacation :sad2:

Thanks!

It's way too early to tell whether there will be room discounts or free dining or any type of discount for October. It was just last week when the free dining for Aug.-Sept. was announced. And lately, Disney has been making their discounts available for shorter periods of time.

AAA offers both room-only and package discounts. The package discount pretty much amounts to the same price if you were to book a room-only and then add tickets and dining at an undiscounted price. AAA packages must be booked through AAA but any Disney TA worth her salt should be able to book you a AAA room-only discount as long as there are AAA rooms available for your date and chosen resort. Heck, you could book that AAA room yourself if you wanted to call Disney. The AAA room discount is between 10%-20% off of the rack rate, depending on the season. And there are some blackout dates.

I'm not sure what impact any convention would have on discounts. Disney hosts conventions all year long. They still offer room and package discounts to the general public. The only reason that I can see for not offering a discount in October would be that the Epcot Food & Wine Festival and MNSSHP are both going on at that time. Those events draw in a lot of visitors and fill a lot of hotel rooms. If Disney is filling hotel rooms without having to offer a discount, they won't offer discounts.
