I'm having problems finding the info that I'm looking for. If a non-member who does not live in our home (my niece) were to travel with us, on our dime, is it full price or is there a discount?

There are no regular ticket discounts for DVC members (there was a special offer recently but that has ended I believe). DVC members and family members who live in their household can get a lower priced DVC Annual Pass. That's the only ticket discount available.

Shoot - I'd heard there was an offer, but didn't know for sure. So frustrated since this is all she wants for her HS graduation gift. We already have our trip booked (5 days at VGF) - we have room for her to stay with us, but I'm still looking at spending $600+ for her to go and that's more than we do for grad gifts. :(

Would you or she qualify for other discounts such as military or FL resident? And the difference is still only maybe $100 so from a budget perspective I'm guessing it's still far over.

There was an offer for 4 days, one day in each park, for $199. You could buy it for anyone. But it expired 12/31/14.

Would her parents be able to cover her ticket and you take care of the room and food? - you can always let them know that an entire trip to Disney is outside your grad gift budget.

Sadly we've had to make the decision not to take her. Her family simply doesn't have the money to kick in. We would be able to do lodging and meals this year but there is no way they could afford to do tickets, souvenirs and travel. :( Instead, since she'd really wanted to go to the beach and sea world, we are going to ask her to come to our house for a week, where we would travel into Canada and visit Marine Land, possibly Canada's Wonderland and Toronto. That achieves her goal of seeing dolphins (which wouldn't have happened at Disney) and I think she'll still have a great time. Plus, I'll be able to get her some tangible gift as well rather than just an experience.

I know this is an on-going argument here on the boards, but if we take a friend of our DD, our deal is "you pay for the tickets and we'll pay for everything else." They can take it or leave it. It costs a LOT to take someone down there besides tickets and we think the rest is more than enough.

If we take a family, they get the room. Period. Everything else and they're on their own. Go ahead. Try to go without paying for a room and let me know how that works out. LOL

Don't mean to be harsh and I know others here pay for everything but we simply can't and won't pay for tickets. They buy park-hoppers for every day we're there or they don't go. So far, no one has ever turned us down.

Disney on a Dime is an older travel book out there that suggests many $ saving options available.

imo eliminating both the PH option and setting a $ limit on souvenirs (typically a senior in HS can get a part-time job even if babysitting, cutting grass, etc. for 'pin money'), would go a long way in making overall cost of trip more reasonable.

OP Have you considered Orlando's Sea World? Even better option would be the amazing Discovery Cove for the Dolphin swim, which when we booked in the past included Sea World tickets for a week, also a Busch Gardens option. Everybody in your party doesn't have to participate in the Dolphin interaction which is pricier ticket.
