I am new here what is the Big Give?

Also I live in a small town and cannot find any Fabric stores near by. Our wal mart dosnt have a craft section. :furious: Just needed to vent :rotfl:

PM Mousetripper if you are interested in the Big Give. We are sewing for a special little girl!!!!

I feel your pain with the fabric!!!!!!

I need you opinion on something that happened this weekend.

My cousin is getting married July 5. This has been known since last summer and we were told that our daughter would be invited. The wedding is 2 hour away from our home but my parents and other family all live local to the wedding.

So I get an invitation to the shower and attend that on May 3. I was generous with my gift even though I am NOT close with this cousin. We were informed at the shower that the invitations went in the mail the day before so we should be receiving them that week. Again, I was assured that Lauren would be invited.

I get the invitation and send the positive reply back immediately (so maybe 3 weeks ago now). My mother gets a phone call from my cousin’s mother 2 days ago saying that Lauren is now NOT invited.

Everyone we know local to the wedding will be at the wedding. We have no babysitters that I would trust for Lauren to stay with. My mother already told my aunt that we would not be attending the wedding since Lauren cannot go now. My aunt and her daughter think we are being ridiculous. Lauren is only 3 and I really do not feel comfortable leaving her with someone I do not know well. And the wedding is at 4 pm so in theory we would be out later than bedtime.

It was suggested I go to the wedding alone. However, July 5 is my birthday. I want to spend it with my husband and my daughter not at some wedding where my daughter is not welcome. And so I do not get flamed, I understand a bride not wanting kids at their wedding. What makes me so upset is that we were told she was invited numerous times over that past year and now after we have responded yes we are told she cannot come.

Am I wrong? Any thoughts?

I think it is stinky that they changed that detail on you at the last minute!!! You definately have to do what you are comfortable with. I am a big believer of kid free events - I have friends who bring their little ones to girls nights out and such while others of us pay a sitter - but it sounds as though you don't have that option since you are away from home. For me - I would probably go though - leave DH and DD at a relatives house, and stay for the wedding but skip out on the reception, you should only be gone 2 hours tops. Again - this is what I would do but I wouldn't think any decision you make to be wrong - we all do what is best for us. ;)

Since everyone is talking about Donald Duck outfit, I am going to share mine although it is pretty simple, and I am not even sure if I like how it looks especially the bows. I just couldn't make a bow that looks right! I actually made this a while ago for our trip next month. DS is going to wear this for breakfast at Tusker house. Here he is modeling the outfit...

I really wanted to put a pre-made applique of Donald Duck on the front, but dh doesn't want me to. I shudder just to think of how dirty that pair of white pants will get...I think I am bringing a change of clothes to AK.

Oh, that is just TOO CUTE! If you wanted the bow to stay "just right" - you could sew little snaps on the corners of the bow and where it meets the shirt. I've done that before when I wanted a bow to lay a certain way and it wasn't cooperating! I think it looks great, though!

LOL, too funny! Hope you guys enjoy them!

the big give is something nice some of us are doing for somone who needs some major pixiedust. We are making outfits for her DD to wear to wdw since she has lost the desire to sew due to a tragic loss in her family. MouseTriper would be happy to give more info if you are interested in participating.

Love the Big Give outfits!

That Donald Duck outfit is just too cute! What a great design - very creative. :goodvibes

There have been a few posts asking "What i the world is THE BIG GIVE" so I will answer that before those posts get lost in the shuffle that can be the disboutique thread:rotfl:

THE BIG GIVE!!!( I decided it too deserves exclamation:lmao: ) is a project that some of the disboutique gals are working on. Inspired by Oprah's Big Give show one of our generous and compassionate fellow dis'ers (mousetriper) has coordinated a Big Give to help out one of our sisters who has suffered an unthinkable tragedy. AKSUNSHINE lost her son just after their Dis trip last year and is planning another trip w/ her daughter soon. We are pitching in to make her some customs for her darling daughter Isabelle. There is plenty more to the story but that is the gist of it.
Anyone, feel free to correct me if I've misspoken or if I have left something out.

We, and I think I can safely speak for all of us on the Disboutique thread whether we are working on an outfit or hair bows or just supporting the gals who are, are very honored and excited to be a part of mousetrippers heartfelt giving. 'Cause that's just the type of girls that hang out here.

HTH...t.

I took Lauren for her 3 year portraits last week at Sears. Here is a sample photo, she is wearing the strawberry apron top and matching easy fit pants.

So SWEET! Love that smile!

:rotfl:

These are great! I can't even make many pj's for my DS because he won't wear them (pj's, that is, says they make him too hot) :headache: Where did you find the Transformer's fabric? I bet he would wear shorts from that material.
Thanks - I got the fabric at JoAnn

Mom got another top done this weekend! We are slowly marking items off the list. Here is a tank with Mickey balloons on it:

th_mickeyballoons.jpg
What a CUTE idea!

In my defense though, I have not been well this weekend, or this past week. I keep having horrible dizzy spells, so Brian took the van to work so he wouldn't have to worry about me trying to drive somewhere.
This happens to me every now and again, so hopefully, it will pass soon.

Hope you are feeling better soon!

I am LOVING all the stuff posted. The "big give" stuff is AWESOME!

Here are the shorts for the baseball trip today. They had to wear the navy blue shirts.

This is the scrunchie I made to match and one of the last times you will see her hair...she will get it cut off with me next week! We decided to cut our hair off before we went to Disney. Just too hot! We both have extemly thick hair and mine goes all the way down my back. Plus, I need to cover my gray!:rotfl2:
P5270059.jpg

Gorgeous hair!

Does anyone know of a good pattern to use for a raincoat, the kind with sleeves and buttons? I would need it to fit a 2-3 year old. Also, what size does an average 2-3 year old girl wear?? Thanks!!!

Jess

My 2 year old wears a size 3 but could probably get away with a size 4 in a raincoat (with the sleeves rolled up)

I love your themed Halloween costumes! I keep trying to get my family to do that but no luck so far. Baby Lily Tink is adorable!

I got a story that just stinks too. My cousin...a real toot in my opinion...did not invite my children to her wedding. It was a no-kids thing. That's cool. I have great in-laws who babysat for the night while I went to Atlanta. Anyhoo. We go to the reception and there are 5-8 kids running around.

Huh? :confused3 Turns out, she selectively invited children and mine didn't make the cut. Guess what else? She has never even seen my kids. Too bad for her. Because they adorable and gobs cuter thanher stinkers.

Hmmmm. Maybe I am the toot in this family!:rotfl:

BTW, I couldn't stay away. Love you guys!

I have the opposite problem :rotfl: my nephew is getting married on June 7. His fiancee told me I need to bring all of my kids because she has set up a "daycare" for the reception. I can't (okay won't) take all 4 kids from Utah to California without DH. :( Oh and there is a local reception center near me where my nieces and nephew had their receptions that has an official "daycare" set up in the basement where you check your kids in and out and everything. It was great!

The silhouettes are all over the fabric. There are other silhouettes on it too. It has a Mickey head that is done in the gold colored dots and Mickey and Minnie with their noses touching.

It's funny that you say that about the headaches. I have had the same thing for several years now. I have had all kinds of tests to try and find out what they are and the doctors don't have a clue. I even had an MRI which I did not like doing.:scared1: Creepy little tunnel.

I would love to see a picture of the rest of the fabric.

I hope yours clears up too! I am so scared of that MRI machine! I don't do well in small enclosed spaces like that! I had to leave "Alien Encounter" (now the Stitch ride) because I couldn't handle the enclosed feeling!

My mom is haveing an MRI right now, as I type, for many things. One of those days...good and bad all rolled up into one...
I hope your Mom is ok.
Oh and one more, cause I'm still on the fence about selling my clothing... Do any of you have a good source for labels and hangtags? Should I make them myself???

Inquiring minds want to know.
EdieBeedie... gave me the name of an Etsy seller that makes hers. I'll try to find it (although, I've never ordered any, hers looked really cute)

ETA:OK, here it is: sugarplumbaby

It's one thing if there are no kids or like Miss, but when they only select some, that's just hurtful!

I'm glad you came back! :lovestruc

Hmm.... now I have to think about a Donald top! Please stop with the ideas!!!

I had to make her a Donald dress. He was teh second character she recognized. When we saw him in Epcot she yelled Duckie! It was too cute. The CM cuoldn't believe it.

Brian shared with me the biggest news in these parts since the announcement of the Walmart going in...

We're getting a Dollar Tree!!!!

I LOVE  Dollar Tree. It's the best place to get party favors & random Disney things.

I love it! I was just looking at the Donald cling on the sliding glass door & thinking it would cute to do one exactly like his shirt. If the bow is too floppy, I would tack the top of it in place. I've done that more than once myself.

Ok, I'm going back to playing with the new machine. :dance3:

Sallfrom DE;
my old brother is only about 6 yrs old and we probably only paid about $100 - 150 at costco for it. So for $80 to fix it it just didn't seem worth it?

I just talked to my om and i was going to mention shipping it but she was in a really bad mood from work so I figured I would wait a bit to beg for the machine:bitelip:

Aww that is so cute! You did a great job. And your DS is just ADORABLE!!!

And seriously, guys? Reminding me to post pics of the outfit and party? SHEESH! Who do you think I am? There will, of course, be pics!

:rotfl2: :cool1: :lmao: GOOD!! That is what we like to hear!!!

Love both your BIG GIVE outfit!! Now I am starting to really, really feel the pressure...I haven't even bought fabric yet...I chose to do an Animal Kingdom outfit...I probably won't get to it until our trip in a few weeks!
Don't feel pressured, you have plenty of time!!! ;)

Awww...you just made me cry. Thank you for all the kind words. This project is very close to my heart in a number of ways! When the idea first struck me, I thought I would post it and see if there were any takers. Let me just say I have been overwhelmed by the number of responses I have received!!! My PM box has been overloaded since day one and I could not be any happier. It just feels so good to be able to do this for Alicia and Isabelle!! I can't imagine all the pain and suffering they have been through since losing Levi in such a tragic accident. This next trip will be hard in so many ways, but I believe our efforts will definitely bring smiles to them all!!!
THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!!!!

I think this is so cute! I'd want to do the applique also. Men just don't get it.

If it's only 6 years also, I'd probably go for a new also. good luck with Mom.
I took my Mom's Serger to the sewing store. Now I have to break the news to her that the motor burnt up and it's less then 2 years old!!

Mousetriper:
sent you a pm

teresajoy and heather::hug: glad you are back from your trip(you can tell that I am behind reading the post!!)

Tinka: Glad you are back from your trip too!!!!:yay: Hope you and your family really enjoyed it!!!

I've been busy sewing for the girls from the school... I made 3 outfits(sorry forgot to take pictures:furious: ) and talking about headaches mines have gotten worse again so more talks of spinal taps:faint: :faint: :faint:

I do not know if all the targets are the same but mine (brooklyn, ny) had the singer prelude on clearance for 69.00 as some of you might remember my husband got me a "new" machine and told me that I did not need to buy another one:rotfl:

Thank you so much! I know it is a bit early to be thinking about this (I am not even due until July!! HA :rotfl: ) But I got some of the Nemo clear vinyl the other day and was just wondering what exactly to do with it to make a raincoat. Now I just need a pattern (or at least one I can Frankenpattern) because I do not work well without a pattern.

Thanks again!!

Jess

Wow, I have a major allergy attack and am half comatose for the day (poor kids had no supervision) and this thread has added so many pages since last night! Everything is wonderful as usual.

I finished my BIG GIVE OUTFIT!!!!!
Here it is:

As you can see, the applique is not perfect, but hopefully good enough. Tinka Belle is making another set of bows as my bowmaking skills are NOT great!!!

So cute!!!!!!!!

Big Give Outfit

It's hanging a little askew and it could use a little ironing. I used Carla's Simply Sweet halter dress pattern and easy fit pants. Isabelle said she liked this fabric and it was one I knew I could find. I did the adjustable/buttonhole elastic in the waist again and this time I made a buttonhole for it to stick out of on the inside of the waistband. I'm getting better at that!

princessmom29, I would love to make a bracelet to match your cute outfit. Let me know if you don't have one.

Love it! that applique is FAB!

You guys are making me look bad too. I am going to work on a majorly detailed Alice applique for the big give. I have some of my clip art picked and some fabric but still need to decide on pattern and layout of the outfit. I am working on several customs for our beach trip in a few weeks and need to get them done so I can focus on this.

I was wondering - how many outfits will there be total? And do we have any details of the family's trip plans? You can PM me if you feel more comfortable doing that.

I was skimming back through the thread to find the pictures that I couldn't see on my Blackberry while I was gone and Jenna saw this picture and said, "Awww!! Isn't she cute! She looks just like me." I had to laugh because they kind of do resemble each other a little bit.

You need to tell your husband to buy you a really new machine. One that still has plastic wrap on it and is still in the box. :rotfl:
