I'm a big time lurker here, I LOVE all the cute things you guys make. I'm not really a sewer but I'd like to try it sometime. Anyways, I'd like to try to make something for our disney trip. My DD's will be 4 and 18 months when we go. I saw on etsy a really cute Cinderella Tuto dress (the tulle is tied around non roll elastic and the bust is made of flowers). It's so cute and it doesn't look that hard. Does anyone know how to make the flower top? I've made the tie twirl skirts before, but I have no idea on the top. Any suggestions?
Also does anyone have any ideas on any other easy projects I could try for disney. My oldest DD is obsessed with princesses.
thanks for your help.

Congrats on coming out of lurkdom! I remember the twirl you are talking about, Is it Flea that made that?
There are some easy twirl skirts with pricess fabric, you can make for you 4yo. Have you looked at YCMT? Maybe make a cute Tshirt with a design from the Disign boards.
Good luck and show us what you come up with.
I have been lurking for months now and you guys have got me sewing again. I use to sew for myself years ago and stopped sewing when I had children - had the late in life. They are now 9 and 7 and wish I had seen these gorgeous clothes back when my daughter ws young - she would have looked adorable. I think I have talked her into some capris with ruffles- which leads me to why I was going to post - I bought a ruffler today - after seeing ideas and such posted here and looked at it a couple of times at Joanns - honestly did not even know they made such a thing. So I bought one today and went to YCMT and down loaded the ruffler guide and was so proud of myself when I made a ruffle - almost brought tears to my eyes. Am having surgery tomorrow - Breast cancer - but I know you all will be a part of my recovery. When I am able to - I will post more - feel like dropped a bomb and all I wanted to do was to share my excitement of the ruffler.
Marla
Marla, please let us know how your surgery made out. My mother has been a breast cancer survior for close to 25 years. She believes recovery had to do with being busy (sewing and crocheting) and attitude.
I know what you mean about the older kids. Kirsta is 7 and now only wants to wear things at Disney. And occassional other places. She loves the attention. So I am going overboard this year, becuase I think it will be the last she will wear special "costumes".
Suggestion needed!!!
I have made a patchwork twirl skirt and I am going to applique the crab on the shirt.
Here is the material:

I have the crab applique ready to go on a white shirt but I can't decide if I want to put the crab sitting straight up or turn it a little bit at an angle. It would still be in the middle of the shirt just off kilter some.
What do you think?
a) crab sitting straight up
or
b) crab angled a bit
I'd do straight becuase that is how it is on the fabric. Very cute prints!! Good pick.
I been following this thread since the begining with envy, as a mother of two preteen boys I really had no reason to do any sewing...(I used to sew years back...I even made my wedding gown)...well getting ready for our trip to disney I decided to make my own handbag, this is my first time sewing one and without a pattern it was a little tricky for the measurements, I did use a DisIng (cannot recall who's) for the front... not to bad to be the first one

Linnette
Linnette, great bag! I'll probably be sewing for myself next year. What do you want to work on next? My nephew is 9 and he loves tshirts I make from the disigns board.
This is a plaid- very New England style. Rose and raspberry with green and a bit of cream, with accent pillow in cream with floral on it.
DH and I carried our former couch out to the street for trash pick-up- costs $30 to throw it out! LOL!! Same here- first real set we have bought. We got a L-shaped one for TV room a few years ago- but thats not the same. This makes me feel like we have a real living room now- of course this is more of a family room for us.- its not as red as it looks in this photo.

I love the new furniture! I need to rip the house down and start over! Don't forget to check out FreeCycle. You can get rid of unwanted items by offering them to other people.
Good morning everyone!
I have two questions that I hope you can help with.
1. Does the ruffler work with any machine? I have a 32 year-old Bernina. Still runs like a champ so I really don't want to replace it. I'm interested in using a ruffler with it.
2. When you add ribbons to your outfits do you pre-wash them too? Do you just wash them by hand and put in the dryer before you apply them to the outfit?
I'm finally working on a few outfits for DD instead of the dolls!
Thanks for your help!
I think any machine can use a ruffler. You just need to know if you have a low shank or slant shank.
I took a quilting class and was told to wash everything. The trims should even be hand washed in the sink and thrown in the dryer. But I haven't done that to anything and had trouble. Now watch, I'll have an issue with the next outfit.
Tools and Materials
Satin charmeuse (1 1/2 yards)
Nylon chiffon (about 3 yards -- see measurements below)
I know all the cutting measurements can be confusing! Buy a liitle extra, just in case.![]()
I did see that. But Kirsta is now into a 10/12. So I'd need to see what I can do to modify it. Maybe I'll just break down and buy from YCMT. Lisa Zoe had listed a few theatre places with the chiffon net, so I'd order it. I know Kirsta would wear a Pettiskirt becuase of Hannah Montana.
