Disboutiquers Part 4ish Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes psst..we sew

I'm finishing some projects around the house before I begin sewing for Abi-girl. She is my cousin DC's 5-month-old daughter. And adorable, of course! *LOL*

Question: How do you determine the length of elastic when the pattern says to "measure the child"???? The child won't be available--and hopefully won't fit the pattern size at the time! My plan is to work ahead at least 2 months.

I'm recycling some 25-year-old patterns that I used for my cousin DC, her sister KC and their cousin KG. It should be simple enough to update them. I'm looking forward to having fun with "customs"!

***FOUND IT!!! THANKS!!***

I have the DD's peasant top and heard that Carla C's is much easier and I wanted to give it a try. I can't seem to find it on the site. Can anyone help?
TIA

Does anyone know where I could find Little Einstein's fabric? I have already checked all the local Joann's with no luck. I have tried searching ebay with no luck there either.

I bought the Dainty Design's one first, and the sleeve just didn't fit right..then, I bought CarlaC's peasant top, and I had no problem with it. Very easy to do, and the instructions are easy to follow!

I got mine at Hancock's Fabric. I have never seen in at my Joann's or Walmart.

I got mine at Hancock's, I have not seen it anywhere else.

Awesome job! Geez... I wish they had that kit when I had an influx of orders for castle cakes last summer. I used pringles cans and ice cream cones. What a pain!

With all this talk of cake... I just wanted to share a quick photo of the cake I made for DD's birthday last month.

Okay Les Filles, now you're making me feel like I make a tiny cabin in the woods cake, not a castle cake! These are magnifique! Tres jolies.

Guess I'll go eat leftover cake now . . .

Unfortunately, there are no Hancock's around here and it appears the fabric is out of stock in their online store. BOO HOO!:sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

Oh I know, I don't have one near me, I picked some up when I was visiting my mom. If I was going up to see her soon I would offer to get you some, but she is coming her for the next few trips. Sorry!:guilty:

I'd be happy to pick some up for you if mine has it. I won't be able to run by until tomorrow.

If you could, I would happily pay you for it plus shipping. I would love 2 yards, if they have it. THANK YOU!

We just received our first pettis last week!!! We got this one today and dd7 is on :cloud9: This is why I made the carriage shirt. I'm not going to apologize for the hair, but the whole thing will look much better when her hair is fixed and properly accessorized!!!

OMG!!! DH just bought me the most amazing thing!! This!!

I just took it out of the box and I still can't believe it. It's a Viking Emerald 183. It's computerized! I mean I'm in the 21st century with my sewing machine. (the one I had been using was at least 15 years old.) I still need to do a Cinderella dress and boy this thing is going to make my princess dresses a breeze!! It isn't an embrodiery one, but it has some cool stitching, I think I read it would program the VCR and put a roast in the oven all at the same time. I don't know how!?!:confused3 I'm just psyched it had a self-threading needle and a speed controller??? I didn't even know machines had that. So what do you think?? Does anyone have a Viking?

Ok, this is my 3rd post in the last few minutes because I keep forgetting to post these. This is dd with her Marie outfit on. I love this one!!!! I have just enough fabric to make one more ;)

And... the "Emma"

This is so pretty. You did a great job with the colors. And what a ham for the camera!

I also want to make some more tulle tutus- I want to try the ribbon ones- wasn't it flea who posted about those- I think that is your red headed cutie in the picture. I thought I had saved the instructions but I can't find where that is

Alright off to bed.....
Good morning :goodvibes

oooooh my name :) hehe since you asked.........

How I do mine is I sew a length of ribbon to each end of the elastic (enough for waist measurement) - I use non roll medium width elastic - then I cut the tulle into strips depending on the length I want it - measure waist to whereever you want it to fall - double then add 2 inches.

I've made lots now so I just gather and sew but if you want to just loop the tulle around the elastic in the colour pattern you like making it quite full then I do a 3 stage zig zag while slightly stretching the elastic.

I find this makes a nice flat waistband and there are no knots to come undone.

and just cos I love this pic :)

Congratualtions! That looks like a great machine. I have a 16 year old Kenmore but it works great and I am not allowed ot buy a new one. Have fun sewing!

Carla's patterns can be found on http://www.youcanmakethis.com/clothing-creation.htm
Good luck, and try not to buy too much!:lmao:

Thank you for the direct link.

I've just been using the $1 patterns I manage to find on sale, but I think I will finally take the youcanmakethis plunge. I've been eyeing a lot of the patterns for quite some time and I think it's time because my 2 youngest daughters actually love dresses now.

Beautiful work as usual, everyone! I do more teaching (how to sew) than sewing these days so I am envious. lol

Very pretty. Where did you get the pattern to do the carriage on the shirt. I have been looking for one to add to a pair of Cinderella capris for Jenna.

Major drooling going on in my house right now. I want one!!!!

Very pretty picture. That pic looks familiar, but I can't even begin to place where I would have seen it. My grandparents want Jenna to be in the VFW pageant. They aren't allowed to wear makeup in that one. She is finally old enough this year and I might let her do it. And Yay for paying for college. Jenna's college is paid for too, but her's is paid for because of child support. I have been doing fine on my own for the last several years so everything that her dad has been paying has gone into an account for her. By the time she is 18 she will have enough for college.

Very pretty cake. I made Jenna a castle cake this past year. I don't have any pictures of it and I am glad. Ya'll's cakes put my little one to shame. Where did you get the castle peices? They really are cute and very customizable.

I loved your cake too! That is what inspired me to post the cake I made. Knowing that there were other crazy moms out there attempting to make castle cakes for their DD! I was all ready to make a princess cake out of Wilton's doll pan (which I have made many times) when DD insisted she wanted a castle! It is fun to make a cake they enjoy so much :)
