Hey everyone. So I started to finally sew my 1st dress last night but I'm a little confused and wondering if you could help. Can you take a look at the instructions and what I did and tell me how to do it right...lol... It just doesn't seem like it should look like that. I sewed the skirt part of the dress and that is fine so far. This bodice part is really confusing! I think I picked something a little too ambitious...haha...

Did you sew the fabric with the right sides together? In your picture it looks like you put the wrong sides together, making your seam on the outside of the dress. It also looks like your seam allowance isn't the same from one end of your seam to the other. That could just be the angle of the picture though. I'm still studying the pattern, but that's what jumped out at me first.

ETA: I've been studying your pictures a little more, and I hope I'm not asking a dumb question here. But, did you overlap the edges of your fabric or did you put the cut edges together and sew them? It sort of looks like they are overlapped, instead of together. Does that make any sense?

Hi, I can help you but it would probably be easiest if we actually talk this out. I am going to PM you my cell phone number and you can call me and if you don't have free long distance I'll call you right back because I do....Okay! You've got the basics right and I can talk you through the pictures you took. Nana

You are so sweet I wish I were there to give you a hug right now! Thank you so much for calling your friend for me. I'm crying at your thoughtfullnes. So, this IS cancer? I was hoping I was mistaken about that. But, I'm glad it's not a more serious type of cancer. I don't think my SIL realizes that it is cancer yet. She goes in on Tuesday to talk to her doctor. Of course, I think this is the same doctor who told her that if it hurts, it can't be cancer..

I will read what you wrote to my Mom too.

Thank you so much.

I just wanted to clarify that anything that is "pre-cancerous" is lumped in with "cancers" to most research scientists. It's just how they do it. The doctor your SIL is seeing may be classifying this as Pre Cancerous b/c it is non invasive and extremely treatable and curable. I think it really depends on if this was her GP that she was speaking to or an oncologist. They all have different lingo.

I will say that Research oncologists are pretty cut and dried when it comes to cancer...they tell it like it is b/c they work in labs not with patients and my friend seemed extremely hopeful about the whole thing. You can never say 100% with anything but his response was very "Oh that...we know how to cure THAT..." he didn't say that but you know what I mean...and he would have told me if he thought otherwise.

Just listen to the doctors and PLEASE, make sure that your SIL gets a second opinion. In situations with pre cancer EVERYONE should get a second opinion. No matter what. That way all the bases are covered!!

:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

y'all are a great bunch and I love the way you love each other and your families! I'm glad to help any time I can!!

I'm a dummy. For the skirt part I put the right sides together and it came out nice. But this bodice thing totally confused me and I basically did what the picture looks like. I lined up the 2 pieces of fabric to match together overlapped it and sewed. I'm embarrased.

Just thought I would share the latest outfits I made for my two kiddos for our September trip. They are pirate themed for Magic Kingdom :)

First I made Gabi a peasant dress using white broadcloth and Carla's YCMT portrait dress pattern. I am ruffle and gather challenged so don't blame her pattern for it's imperfections :rotfl:

Then I made a Farbenmix Anna for overtop. I used minnie dot and pirate fabric and made it reversible because I like how neat the hem is when something is reversible.

For Camden, I made a set of shortalls in the pirate fabric, forget the pattern I used here. And I also made him a pirate bandanna hat from the boys hats pattern on YCMT. I had some trouble with that one, not a lot of pictures and a bit hard to understand at times plus I had to make a few alterations based on the amount of fabric I had, but all in all it's a good pattern, just not great like Carla's patterns are :)

CUTE outfits!! I like the apront dress, it's such a cute style!

LOVE that pirate fabric!!!! WHERE oh where did you get it?!

LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!!!

Outfits are DARLING!!!

This will probably seem odd, since I just posted other things without mentioning this, but I was doing some research while posting.....

Our Sister in law, Barbara (our brother's wife) had a lump in her breast, so she had a mammogram done. They said it was calcium deposits, but they also did a biopsy to make sure. She got her biopsy results back this afternoon, and she called me up and told me they were pre-cancerous cells. Which, worried me quite a bit. Then, my brother called me a little while ago and told me the "official" name of what she has, it's
site 2 ductal carcinoma,
also known as some letters that I can't remember. I did a search, and I'm confused. This sounds like it is a cancer to me, not precancer. Does anyone know anything about this? Everyone I can talk to right now is gone, Heather and my family are at Tessa's party, my Mom and Dad just went away, and I don't want to call my brother and worry him.

I did talk to my Mom for just a minute before she left, and she told me that the doctors want to do surgery to take it out, and then radiation?

I'm pretty worried.

I don't know about the name, but this is what my sister had. I think the calcium deposits had clustered together and she had to have a partial mastecomy. When she went to the cancer Dr., he told her she should have had a full mastecomy. She said she wishes she had known that before hand, because she would have. Went through radiation. She just recently had reconstructive surgery. They had told her it was pre cancer also.

Those are both too cute. Where did you find the Minnie Dot fabric. I need some and can't find it anywhere.

I don't understand why they call it pre cancer, when it sounds like it is cancer. I'm just so confused. I am so worried about Barbara. She is hard of hearing and a little slow, so when the doctors tell her things, she doesn't always understand. I hope she doesn't have to have a mastectomy, I think that would really devistate her. But, I do hope she does whatever she should to stay healthy.

How is your sister doing?

Ok - here it is - DD's Easter/Spring dress. I still need to do the buttons/buttonholes and hem but am waiting on DD to come home from school.

Very nice! I really like that pattern. And once you've made one, the others are easier!

I am working on one like that for Leighanna to wear to school tomorrow. I just have the buttons and button holes to do yet!.

I'm sorry to say that it has been in my stash for a while now. I couldn't pass it up when I saw it on clearance at Walmart a while ago so I picked up some and have been saving it for a disney trip to be planned :)

Great easter and pirate outfits just posted.

I would love to get my hands on the pirate material... a few pirate skull caps and my kids will be outfitted for a PP&P. pirate:

I so sorry to hear about your SIL Teresa. Cancer can be so scary! I hope your brother can go with her to future appointments to get the details for her!

Have a great evening everyone! I'm off to hem a dress!

Well she is much braver than me. I hate talking in front of people. :cheer2: Congratulations to your DD on completing her project.:cheer2:

Wow!!! I'm so impressed!! I too do NOT like public speaking. Believe it or not, I'm really shy!
Thank you so much.....she did a great job and I think it was a good experience for her!

I went to walmart and got mine for the $14.97. I can not wait for easter to watch it. I also picked up dumboe, little mermaid and Mulan on DVD for the baskets. We have been slowly changing out our tapes to DVD's. Last one left is Beauty and the beat and then our collection is completed!!!

Lori
I paid $20:headache: at our Walmart.

Does anyone know where to get free touring plans for Disneyworld? I know that there are many sites who sell them (tourguidemike, etc.), but I am too cheap to pay. We will be there April 20th-26th, and I really want to have a plan so that we are able to make the most of our time.
Did you google free disney tour plans? I paid whatever it was for TGM and it seems worth it....but that's just me

Five years ago today, I was in labor until midnight, when my little Tessa (or Tesserella because of the midnight thing) was born. I can't belive my baby is 5 years old already. I remember that day like it was yesterday. We're having a party at Build-A-Bear tonight.

:flower3: :cheer2: :bday: party: :dancer: :rainbow: Happy Birthday Miss Tessa!

I am laughing so hard I can hardly breathe! (in a oh-I-can't-believe-how-sweet-that-is kind of way)Thanks I needed that! That is just the sweetest thing!! Tessa is going to love it!!! I dare say Lydia will be mighty impressed too!!! I can't wait until someone gets home so I can show them!!!
Man I am impressed too! You gotta video tape her reading it off of the computer the first time then post it for us!!!! :rotfl:

I have a question about the Farbenmix patterns. The one that I ordered came in the mail and all of the peices are overlapped. What do I do with it? I figure that I need to trace it, but what do I trace it on to? How much of a seam allowance do you add? I think I am starting to regret buying the pattern. It is cute and I really want to make it for Jenna for our trip to WDW. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I think what you are referring to is called "ductal carcinoma in situ." It is a very small tumor that hasn't broken out of the milk duct yet. I know because this is what I had. My doctor did what he called a lumpectomy and I call a chunkectomy! He took a wedge shaped piece from my breast. He was able to get the entire tumor with clear margins all around. They biopsied it and did other tests. Mine was "estrogen receptive."

I had radiation and took a drug called tamoxifen for 2 years. They also did a bone scan and other tests just to make sure it hadn't "escaped." It has been five years now and has not come back.

It is very scary while it is happening, but it sounds like you have a very good support system for her. It is manageable because it is in the very early stages!

You trace it onto a paper similar to interfacing. I used sweedish tracing paper that I picked up at the sewing expo - sold by birchstreetclothing.com - but I heard they also sell it with the interfacing (called pattern ease I think?) at JoAnn. I'm not sure if it helps but here are pictures of my patterns that I traced. The first line is the original trace of the size I want - then I added a 3/8" seam allowance on all sides except folds. It isn't too bad once you get started. What pattern did you get? The Easter dress I posted today was made with the farbenmix pattern Vida.

I'm pretty worried.

I just asked my DH (he's a Medical Physicist in diagnostic radiology), and it sounds like she's diagnosed with DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma In Situ), which is considered a pre-cancerous condition. It is VERY treatable, and has a very high survivor rate and the prognosis for DCIS is usually very good. Anyway, here is a website that my dh showed me that explains DCIS...

http://www.webmd.com/cancer/brain-c...-information-nci-pdq-ductal-carcinoma-in-situ

I am sorry that your SIL is going through this....and I will be keeping you, her and the family in my prayers. I can definitely understand being worried ...cancer is such an evil thing!!

(I'll try to post pictures later when they get home)

So pretty!!! I love the flower trim!

Thanks! Can't wait to see your pics!

((HUGS)) I'm glad so many gals here were able to give you more specific info. What a great group this is!

Okay, we had fun making this "card"--it was my first real attempt at making something with my new Cricut (other than helping Sugarbees with something). It was fun! Nothing is too good for my future DIL ;) :lmao:

Now I feel like I need to mail it to you Heather! If I ever find a 12x12 mailing envelope and you pm me your address I will send it to you!

ETA: AAACK!! :scared: I just realized she is missing a piece of her right arm! I'll fix that!

Okay, not a good photo :confused3 but I fixed her arm!

th_IMG_0100-1.jpg

LOL - too cute! I haven't touched my cricut in so long!!! I need to somehow balance my sewing obsession with my scrapbook obsession - I tend to go all or nothing!

OOOOHHH! So pretty!! What pattern is that?

Thanks! It is a farbenmix pattern style is "Vida".
