Five years ago today, I was in labor until midnight, when my little Tessa (or Tesserella because of the midnight thing) was born. I can't belive my baby is 5 years old already. I remember that day like it was yesterday. We're having a party at Build-A-Bear tonight.

In honor of Tessa's birthday, here's a link to my pregnancy journal and labor story:

Happy Birthday Tessa!

I guess I was wrong..I thought it was PG. There were a few words in there that we don't say...like Stupid, B**B, S**ks...I think that's it...I looked down at my girls faces when they said b**b, and my oldest was confused..:confused3 .so that was a good thing.

I agree - I could have done without those thrown in.

**QUESTION FOR YOU ALL**
Have any of you ever just serged the bottom of a dress and then turned it up once to hem - as opposed to turning it under twice? I am wondering if it will look ok - I have some trim on a dress that is hard to turn under once I am not sure I can turn it twice.

DD knows that when she hears a word that we don't say that she better not say it. I will go watch it with her in case there are some new no no words in there. That way I can tell her that is not a good word. I think it will be ok.

Isn't that how they do store bought clothes? I think it should be ok.

I have done this many times! It gives you a very professional hem. Most store bought skirts are hemmed that way... just serged and then turned up once.

I’ll run right over! Are you by any chance going to the Pirate & Princess Party on the 9th?
No, we're not planning on going to that. Maybe we could all meet at the campfire sing-a-long, like t suggested!!!

That looks adorable!!! Now, he needs those croclike shoes from Walmart to go with it!
They don't come in his size. :sad2:

Actually, David (our brother) is leaving on Saturday. That will be the 10th, so we will still be one great big massive group of 15! How could anyone possibly miss us? We are going to make everyone wear lime green Mickey heads, right?
Oops! I was thinking he was staying 8 days, so he'd be leaving on the 8th. DOH! I really don't think we'll convince Henry to wear a lime green Mickey head- we'll have to put it on his back like a "kick me" sign.

Oh, be careful!!! I hope you are in the basement. When Arminda was in Kindergarten, we had a tornado go over (or really close!) . It was the SCARIEST thing I've ever been through! I didn't even realize there was a tornado warning until Heather called me. Then, Brian and I were looking out the window and Brian yelled, "Run to the basement!" (He had just seen the tree in our front yard bend down and touch the ground)We were part way there (and we have a TINY house), when the loudest noise I ever heard went through and I thought, "Oh my God, we are NOT going to make it!" (And, I NEVER use God's name in vein, I was talking to God). Lydia was a baby, and I was running with her in my arms. I get upset just thinking about it! Thankfully, it only took off some shingles and knocked down some trees. We were all ok. Arminda was on a field trip at the zoo that day. Apparently, they had NO warning system there, so no one alerted the chaperones or teachers as to what was going on. The chaperone with Arminda's group found out somehow, and he ran all the kids to a shelter where they hunckered down until it was done. Geesh, I'm shaking just thinking about this! Corey was in the school locker room, which is partly underground, so they were all ok too.
Oh my gosh!! I remember that storm!! As soon as I called you, the sky turned BLACK. I grabbed Tessa and Tomia and ran to the basement. We huddled in the corner and it sound like the house was falling down on top of us. I was SOOO scared! Tessa just sat quietly on my lap for the whole time, which was VERY unusual for her. I don't remember having any damage to the house, except for a few missing shingles. We were so lucky!

We hadn't planned on it. I think I'm just about maxed out with the expenses of this trip. That will be my brother and his family's last day there too, so we might want to be with them. Then again, after a week with our brother, maybe not!!!!! :rotfl2:
:rotfl2:

TJ!!! You must be sure to pm me to remind me of your trip I REALLY want to come out even if its just for dinner or something. I'm going to mark it on my calender, but who knows if I'll look at it between now and then:rotfl: I vote for having a Diser GTG at Chip and Dales Campfire one night of your stay!!!

...t.
Long time no see, girly! I'd love to meet up with you at the campfire!!! We'll have to coordinate our schedules! What nights would you be able to go?

Oh, I love that! Did you have to take apart the shorts to do the applique? I am going to CASE that! DS could use something like that to go with his CARS shirt.
Thank you! You'll be doing a CASE of a CASE! :rotfl: I did have to take the legs apart a bit. It's pretty easy to put them back together, though.

Lori

Yes, I did that on the Mermaid dress I made because that's what the directions said to do. Actually, I didn't serge it, I just zig-zagged. I would think it'd be fine since it's serged.

I am working on a Mulan applique tank for a fellow diser, and it is turning out VERY cute! I'll try to post some pictures of it tonight, so keep an eye out!

Enchanted is $10 off at Rite Aid today. Does anyone know how much it is there?

I'm quoting myself!

My husband went to Rite Aid and they were asking $30 for Enchanted, then "giving us $10 off". Give me a break!!! So, he got it at WalMart for $15.

Thank you for the great birthday wishes for Tessa. She's going to love the one with all the smilies! Keep 'em coming and I'll show her tonight!

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear TESS-A! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!

I'm just curious...What are weighted vests used for? What is their purpose? I have never heard of such a thing.

My husband is an Occupational therapist and he has used weighted vests from time to time during his treatment sessions.

Occupational therapists sometimes use weighted vests as a technique to improve attention and sensory processing for students who have an autism spectrum disorder.

It sort of helps the kids to "know where their body is in space". It tends to have a calming effect.

he has also used techniques such as having a child suck a really thick milkshake through a straw!

It sounds odd but it helps attention and focus improve!

I told my husband that I would focus better in general if I was able to participate in therapeutic Coach bag purchasing...monthly...

He didn't believe me.

:confused3

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TESSA!!!!!!:goodvibes

My step daughter is having a Build a Bear party in April!!! I can't wait to hear how Tessa's party goes!!!

Hi Everyone,

I am in need of a weighted vest at my work - the ones we have are just too big for his little shoulders and it falls off. Has anyone ever made one? Its basically a little vest with pockets that you can put weights in to to give deep pressure and a calming organizing effect......

If you have done one, would you mind showing me or telling me how to do it? Or, how to make one out of an already made piece of clothing??

Thanks a ton, Wendy
Wendy, I've made a couple for Ds(6) when he was younger. Here's the pattern I used:

Here's the Mickey weighted vest I made for Disneyland last spring...he never needed it, he did real good with out-woo hoo!!! :cool1:

Lori when I use a lightweight cotton and a longer hem that's how I did all of my dresses. The only stinky part is that I'd have to iron or hang to dryand pull the hem flat. It's totally doable though.

Even when i did a 2" hem I still just eyeballed, only if it was a really special dress or fabric I loved would I measure.

Okay I am seriously the BIGGEST BABY ever in history!:lmao:

did anyone else watch Oprah today?

One shot of a little girl weeping with joy at seeing Hannah Montana HERSELF and I'm just bawling my head off.

Certainly doesn't take much to get me going...but it's just so sweet to see little girls who are so thrilled at the sight of a positive role model!

My step daughter came in just a few minutes ago...assessed the situation and said "I didn't know that you liked Hannah Montana so much!"

:lmao:

I'm a dork.

Ok - here it is - DD's Easter/Spring dress. I still need to do the buttons/buttonholes and hem but am waiting on DD to come home from school.
