Hi Everybody..
Quick update on me...LOL
I went and took my NCLEX. I don't know what it stands for...only that it was the hardest thing I ever had to do. By question 14 I was ready to give up. I actually had the lady come over and assure me that I was taking the right test. I managed not to cry until I got to the elevator. I cried the whole way home. It was an absolute nightmare. I called friends who had recently taken it and they said it wasn't bad...I graduated top in my class, how could it have been easy for them...stinkers..anyway, after 2 days of worrying, I found out today that I PASSED!
I'm so happy. I actually cried, again, when I saw the screen and saw the word pass. I had to look at it twice before I really saw it.
Thanks for the kind words everyone! It's a huge relief to get that over with... Now let the sewing weekend, begin!!!

I'm a tad behind (as always) but wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

HELP!! I have a question for those who have worked with the Farbenmix pattern "Vida". I know Tom has - not sure if anyone else has. I am adding my seam allowances to the pattern but am wondering if I need to add them to the neckline and underarm area. TIA
Lori

Today I was sewing like mad to finish up capri pants for today's Easter Egg Hunt. I noticed that the peasant tops I made to go under the actual Easter dresses need to be adjusted around the neckline.....they were a bit gaping! I'll need to tighten the elastic. But besides that, they came out fine. We went out to lunch afterwards with friends! :woohoo: While it was warmish (60) today, tomorrow is only going to be 40's! Brrrrr!

Here are some pics:

And now I am taking a break from sewing my DD9's outfit. I made the peasant top for her. Its a pretty spring print. Now I have to tackle the skirt. It has an overlining of silver stars....wish me luck!!! :rolleyes1

Really cute stuff! Is it hard to sew the sleeves and all?? My presser foot seems bigger than the armhole! :rotfl:

Steph -
I thought I quoted you but it didnt come up .... Sorry! Anyways, I wanted to say that the sweater came out great for Meg! Wow! :thumbsup2

So behind, but I'm not going to let that stop me from showing off.

This is for Snubie who asked if it was dorky to make matching outfits.

This is Simplicity 3513 and Michael Miller fabric I just fell in love with.

It has pockets, which were ridiculously easy!

And a matching top for me, Simplicity 4589 (look UMama, I didn't even make my bed yet!):

Up next, my first recon...

Oh my GOODNESS!!! Is that a Dachshund I spy in that picture?!

I have a doxie too...love of my LIFE...next to my husband of course...

;)

cute dress too!!!:goodvibes

Hi there! I have been lurking on this board for awhile, admiring everyone's beautiful creations. After all of your inspirations, I decided to try my hand at sewing. How hard could it be, right:rolleyes2 I settled on a very simple dress with shoulder seams and side seams. I didn't count hemming around the neck and arm holes. I can't get them right! They come out all twisted and pleated. I'm very frustrated!

I am very new to this, the extent of my sewing experience, is putting a few appliciques onto t-shirts.

I would appreciate any insight and advice to what I am doing wrong.

Thanks!
Melinda

Hello all -
I'm pretty new to the dis and LOVE custom clothing. However, when I say I love custom clothing, I mean I love to BUY custom clothing. I can't sew at all (other than sewing on a button!).

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this here or not, but do any of you all sell your designs? I know you probably can't reply to me here, but feel free to PM me. If I'm not supposed to post this here, I apologize in advance! :goodvibes

Thanks and hope you're all having a great day!

Most of us do sell on that famous auction site, that can't be named..if you see someone's work that you really like, I think the best bet, is to send them a private message. :)

Up next, my first recon...

LOVE them both! That Megan is soooo cute!

Yay! I figured out how to upload my pics from camera onto photobucket! Since my computer is dumb and won't let me upload on there. So I can you show you what I'm working on! I finished cutting out my pattern last night and have my machine threaded, finally. So I think I'll try to start sewing once Violette lays down for her nap. I can't get that kind of stuff done when she's awake because she wants to touch everything.

And here is the fabric I am using:
th_DSC00778-1.jpg

I hope I don't mess it up!

LOVE that fabric! Can't wait to see the finished product!

So I took a sweater that was too short and a t-shirt pattern:

th_IMG_0120.jpg

I laid the pattern on top of the sweater and trimmed the sides. I left it long because Megan is cursed, er I mean blessed with a long-waist like me and extra length is always appreciated.

th_IMG_0122.jpg

I sewed the sides back together. I took the sleeves and wrapped the pattern around and trimmed.

th_IMG_0123.jpg

And sewed them back on. Voila! A little girl sweater!

th_IMG_0132.jpg

I have lots of sweaters that are too short for me but since winter is over I think maybe I should wait. I was thinking of trying to make short sleeved sweaters out of them. That might be more practical for around here. I asked a friend last night if it looked hand-made (my fear with recons) but she assured me it looks like I bought it from Gap (yay!).

WOW! Aren't you smart! This looks fantastic, but Megan looks toooo grown up!:sad2:

Have you considered using bias tape to finish the arm holes and neck opening? It would be much easier than hemming the edges.

As has already been mentioned, many sell on a famous auction site. Many have their user IDs posted in their siggy. Also, many are members at the Disboutiquers board where we are free to buy/sell/trade to our hearts content. The link is in my siggy if you would like to check it out.

Hi Melinda, welcome to the group. Do your Neck and arm holes have an interfacing? Or are you using a binding? And is the body aline or straight? It might help if you tell us what pattern you are using. If we get a little more info, then we can give you some help.

We do have people post pictures of thier kids in "purchased" boutique clothing. We'd love to see what your favorites are.

Okay, here come a lot of pictures because Lily was in the mood to model! This is what I made with my Easter dress scraps. This is the newsboy hat (it was fun to make something different), Carla's simply sweet dresses and tops:love: , and Carla's easy fit pants from YCMT. Next time I will make the elastic pieces longer because the size 3 is a little snug on my 2yo. That being said, LOVE the pattern! It was very easy and I will definitely use it as a "staple" pattern.
Here is my artsy fartsy playing with photobucket's limited editing abilities photo:

Here is my editing out the runny nose dripping down the face photo (it would've turned out better if I'd used photshop, but then Id've had to change computers):

Thought I would post pics of two of the outfits I made for Sydni, seeing is how I never have my model at home anymore! Here is the aline top and pants from carla:

and here is a simple sundress(Sydni picked out the fabric):

Looks much better on, but I can't get her to model them for me! This last pic is just because it is sooooo sweet!:

and YES! my little paciholic has one in her mouth AND in her hand!:rotfl:

PS- I used the clothes pins because I know how much ya'll LOVE:lovestruc them!:rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I know I am probably too late. We had to make a "quick" although not so "cheap" trek to Jo-Ann's.;)

I added the seam allowance everywhere. It seemed to work out fine! HTH!

No binding or interfacing. I am using a NEW LOOK pattern #6478, it is just a straight dress. I think I may have it figured out. Should I clip the material so that it will lay down easier?
Thanks
Melinda

Hi, Melinda!
Yes, any time you sew a seam which has a curve to it you should "clip" the seam and your curves will lay nice and smooth. Also another tip is that you should trim the seam allowance so that it is "graded". This means that the seam allowance should be trimmed with one layer narrower than the other and it is a good idea to also understitch them as well. You "understitch" a facing by running a line of stitching on the facing next to the seam as close as possible...This makes sure that the facing seam lays down and doesn't roll to be seen on the outside of the neckline or arm hole. This gives a very "professional" looking results. Nana

Jham - I LOVE the new set and the hat. DD saw it and wants the dress and hat too (with a pink flower of course!!) I'm thinking about buying it too (and CarlaC's other ew one!) How easy was it to do? What size did you use? thanks in advance!

Thanks! Carla's dress was pretty easy. Her patterns rock! :thumbsup2 The hat one was a little weird, but once I figured it out it was pretty easy. The pieces you sew together to form the main body of the hat are not triangular shaped, but when you sew them you have to make a point at the top. You sew 3 "slices" together and then the other 3, then you join the 2 halves and you have to make sure you stitch the very top just right so all your points meet at the center. I had to think about it for a minute and unpick it once. I think I will make another hat tonight if I don't just go climb in bed. I'm tired!

It's not snowing here yet. You keep it all! It's super cold and there may be little poofy white snow doilies wafting down, but not much. I AM DONE WITH WINTER!

Look how cute the "twins" are! :cutie: :cutie: That's cute SugarBooger!
CUTE!!!!! I love that you photoshopped snot! ;)
So, make the elastic longer, eh? Mentally noted.
Can you please tell Lily, Norah LOVES that outfit! (where did you get that polka dot fabric?:rolleyes1 ) She wants me to make one for her, now, so thanks!

Snot, fat, you name it, I photoshop it :rotfl: Bet ya have snow now! It has been coming down hard for a couple of hours at my house. :sad1: I got the dots at fabricattic.com, not a great experience! I don't recommmend it. Anyhoo, I bought out all they had. I would check ebay. I think it is called Michael Miller disco dots pastel or some such. Norah needs a twinner outfit! We need a dismeet with Sugarbees! We can all rendezvous at my house, just come up with an excuse!

Question for those who have bought CarlaC's simply sweet top pattern - How does it differ from the strip work jumper? Do I really need both patterns?

For myself, I do need both. The new pattern has all those strap options and the halter style option and the 2 different bodice length option which I like because it can fit a bigger "big face" pillowcase applique. I suppose you could alter the stripwork jumper to do much of the same, but I prefer having it all figured out for me.

[She does look grown up, doesn't she? Maybe she needs a big honkin' daisy on it!

HEY NOW! I loves me a big honkin' daisy on just about anything! :snooty:
