Here's Tessa's Mary Poppins dress that I "whipped up" yesterday.

This is one of my favorite pictures of her, ever! Doing the "Megan":

These are the new outfits for Brianna and Spencer that I made today. I havent decided what (if anything) I am going to put on the tee shirt. I think Dumbo Flying. I'll probably let him choose from a selected few.

They're at school, so no modeling right now.

I haven't hemmed the sleeves yet, because the princess is very picky about her sleeves, so I am waiting until she gets home and tries it on. I just hope she likes it. She's been really picky lately only wanting "princess" stuff....
These are so cute. Sorry they didn't fit. I hate it when that happens.

I love Mary Poppins and this dress and Tessa is such a cutie.

There is a pattern in Teresa's bookmarks that teaches you how to do one for just about anyone. I make peasant tops all the time for me to wear with my renaissance garb.

Here's what I do.

1. Determine how long I want the top, then add a little for the casing you'll make at the top for elastic and for a hem at the bottom.

2. To make mine easy, I just use the width of the fabric, I usually am using 45" cotton gauze, so I make the body 45" x however long I want it.

3. Sleeves are just more rectangles, when you are measuring the length, start at where your bra strap is closest to your neck and measure down your arm the desired length. For the width of the sleeve I'd use 2 1/2 times the circumference of the largest part of your arm, more than that if you are going for flowing sleeves.

4. Instead of the U shaped cut out in the book mark I just cut at an angle which gives me a triangle shape that I've cut off, remember to angle pretty deep because you want enough room for your under arm in there.

5. Follow the assembly instructions on the bookmark, I do mine exactly the same way, attaching the sleeves to the body of one side and then the other, then sew up the side seams and then you just need to hem and fold over the casing for the top. I suggest using the thinnest elastic that you can.

6. To do elastic in the sleeve I often stitch in a piece of bias tape before I sew up the side sleeve, I cut it about two inches shorter than the sleeve width, I don't mind the elastic under my arm, that way I don't have to set in the bias tape after the sleeve is already sewn together.

I hope that's not confusing. I'll look around to see if I've got one started, otherwise, not this week but next I have to make myself a new one anyway for the Pirate and Princess Party we'll be attending in June. I'm so not missing a chance to be dressed like a pirate and get my picture taken with Cap'n Jack (should speak volumes, I'm camera shy) not to mention Pirate Mickey!

Heather, First congrats on your weight loss! You're doing fantastic! Second, thanks for the vote of confidence on shirring, I'll probably get back to the sewing machine on the 9th of March, I might start on shirring out of the gate. Third, Tessa's Mary Poppins dress if FAB!

Okay, weight loss ladies, I bit the bullet and joined Weight Watchers today. I haven't been on the program in years, they were just starting to talk about activity points and there was no core program when I was going the last time. I'm not surprised by my start weight, it's not my highest, I've still managed to keep off about 16 pounds out of the 21 I lost last year, so I'm pleased that I haven't eaten myself to a new highest weight. I'm still reading all the information and I actually think that even without being prepared today I'll be able to start within my range. I was planning on really officially starting on Sunday so that I have time to get some groceries in here.

Eeyore, I've faired about as well as everyone else, my Hancock's has no Minnie dot. I hope someone out there can find some for you.

I went to Wal-Mart to find more of the pretty floral and stripe material and our Wal-Mart is all out of the stripe. :scared1: So DD and I looked around and found some really pretty Spring print, plaid and lavendar material to make an outfit like Tom made for Leighanna.

Heather very nice Mary Poppins! You all are going to have such a great time in WDW with all the beautiful outfits you have been creating!

I promised Leighanna I would make this for her birthday. I guess better late than never!

I'm so sorry they don't fit right. That is so frustrating and I've done it too. I once made myself some pjs that came up to my armpits, so I cut them down, but cut too far and now they are low riders! I should probably rip them up and make something else because I'll never wear them now.

The Dumbo came out so cute, I hope you can sell them on :wizard: and make lots of money!

Megan: What is Tessa wearing?
Me: That is her new Mary Poppins dress. Isn't she pretty?
Megan: Of course she is pretty.(big sigh and rolled eyes :scared1: ) but that does not look like Mary Poppins. When is she coming to play with me?

I am not sure why that dress does not look like Mary Poppins, I think it is gorgeous. And when did my five year old learn to roll her eyes?

Cute cupcake! Good thing cupcakes can be for any day!

This is what I did today. The princess fabric is thin and cheap-feeling (although not cheaply priced!) but the hot pink sparkly fabric is cool. This is not for Megan but I bought extra to make her something. At first I thought a little twirl skirt but I'm not sure with this thin fabric.

Cute! Megan would love those: she loves Dora. We check out DVDs at the library and she always picks Dora. I try to tell her that we can watch Dora at home (we just usually have the Disney channel on) but she doesn't believe me.

I think some hot pink rac rac around each leg would be soooo cute for a baby. You should embellish a matching onesie too (aren't I a help, giving you more work?).

Everything looks AWESOME ladies and Tom!!!! I can't believe all the beautiful things that have been showing up on here. Who am I kidding -- everyone on here is sooooo talented that I am not shocked at all! Keep up the good work.

I have been reading/looking at everything, just not posting. I am working on my niece (the one I wrote about) a couple of things. She is having an Incredibles party @ Chuck E Cheese for her 3rd b'day in March so I am making her an Incredibles outfit -- hopefully she'll wear it for her party. I am on my 2nd skirt b/c I thought the first one looked like I was making a Ronald McDonald cheerleading skirt (I guess I'll finish it and put it in the dress-up stuff for Parker). Also I am going to make her a Pink Panther outfit -- she has fallen in love with the Pink Panther too! Hopefully they won't take too long and I get some pics up.

She is so cute! You need to blow this one up and have it framed. Great pic! I love this dress! My daughter said, "oooo, make that for me!" LOL

Did the eyelet fabric cost alot??????????

I just have a quick announcement, bare with me:

"Right Sides Together!!!!!!"

Especially if you are stitching with a teeny, close together stitch and have a dull seam ripper, and are seriously lacking caffeine, and who's kids are running amuk. And you have to eat Progresso soup for dinner since it's weigh-day tomorrow and you don't want to show a gain, again. popcorn:: Hypothetically.

Girls you will be so proud of me!! I made another pair of pants today! These are for my friends baby. They are a Dora house (not so much Disney..I might have to change that! haha) So I found this fabric I was going to make pot holders for Georgia's play kitchen but she said she didn't want Dora anymore. So I was like OOOOH I can make baby pants!

I haven't put the elestic in the waist just yet. I might put lace on the bottom not sure yet. or a ruffle of sorts. in hot pink to match.

th_Dorababypants001.jpg

th_Dorababypants002.jpg

They seem so big. but I followed the pattern to a T this time. Oh well. I Just hope that Georgia doesnt see them and want them for her Hannah Bunny from Build a bear.

Look at you! I was thinking of you when I was making some quickie pants just now. Good job!

I have a daycare girl who loves Dora so I got some of that fabric to whip her up something.

GAH!!!

Of COURSE the shorts are JUST too small on S....of COURSE!! I missed by a freaking inch. GAH! I need to tear them apart, and remake the shorts. I'll just reattach the pocket to the new shorts.

And the dress sleeves don't fit B too great, and the whole dress only JUST fits, so I'm probably going to have to make it again for her. BUT does that mean she'll take the %$& dress OFF so I can sell it in pristine condition? NOOOOO, Of course NOT.

th_DSCN0796.jpg

This was the first time I made a peasant top....maybe I should have made a test run. If she raises her arms too high, the whole dress raises up. :headache: She INSISTS it's fine, but it ticks me off. :headache: I have no idea what I did wrong, either, since I wasn't working off of a pattern....ip-dip.

4 hours of work, down the tubes.

 Sorry!!!! They are really cute! I hate when work time is wasted :sad1:

Great, I'm betting Norah will pose like her next time!

And, I love how well everything you make is so neatly pressed. I do that now because of you (thanks). What do you use? I use Heavy Starch, since it's what I have for "church shirts."

Here's what I did today!   You all have gotten so much done! I am envious. Everything looks great! Hopefully I will be better and back to sewing tomorrow, but the kids have the day off from school so it will be interesting. I finally got my easter dress fabric today. Sorry I've not been commenting, but as Luke would say, my head feels like it is going to "consplode". Love everything though. Can't wait to show Luke Mary Poppins ;) Well, I'm off to bed, hopefully. The kids have been playing hide and go seek and are all wired. DH is out of town. Wish me luck! :rotfl:

I hear ya on the Disney fabric quality...but it's CUTE so we buy it.

I love your Dolly and me outfits. You are so amazing!

Feel Better Jhammie!!!! Really, how much damage can 4 kids do?

It is now the elusive minnie print. I have found some here and there and it will be found. joannes has an interesting similar print. I am driving 45min to look at it in the morning! AAHHHH

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I have done that sooo many times, it's embarrassing. Ever tried to rip out tiny atitches and SERGING because you never checked before finishing the seams? :rolleyes1

AND....

I THINK I can save the Dumbo dress. I think the problem is, I allowed for foldover, then put a casing on the top, so the top is too long, thus the dig at the pits and the size problem (Brianna's belly is bigger than her chest).

I am going to try it after I get my next set of braces tomorrow!

Thanks for the hugs everyone. I just needed to see the pics to see the problem, I guess. :confused3

She is GORGEOUS! I am in love with that dress! WOWWW! Seli (dd12) says, she's beautiful...she looks like a mini Hermione! Now, you have to understand, we ADORE Hermione and think she's the beautifullest, so, that's a great compliment!!! Great job on the dress...Mary Poppins does not get enough recognition!!! ;)

Can you believe that I sewed something **** backwards today too? Must be sumptin' in the air!

I tend to use Leighanna's hair braids as tie backs, thank you very much!

At least I don't use her hair as a decorative trim for her outfits!:scared1:
As Tim G. from PR says, "You've got my gag reflex going!"
(This for all my Project Runway peeps!)

Oh, and the magic to a wonderfully pressed garment? Magic sizing! Yes, that stuff is magic! A little can of pixie dust dressed up in a blue can! Should be marketed by Disney I tell 'ya!
