These are all so cute Lori! The turquoise and the Nemo are favorites because I can't seem to get enough of that color, especially in the summer. Love the seersucker stripe for the Nemo set. What's JoJo up to this week that's keeping her so busy? Something fun, I hope!

Well today she has 2 hrs of dance right after school, so it will not be light enough out when we get home and she will not be in the mood. Thursday is cheer on the other side of town and friday is supposed to pour rain. saturday and sunday she has a 2 day cheer competition , but she will done early on saturday. so we will have time for saturday afternoon only it lloks like.
she is a busy little bee

We had a visitor in the garage yesterday...I had to get it out or it would die. When it landed on our butterflybush, I ran over and took a few pictures of it. It was absolutely huge!! The butterfly bush blooms yellow and attracts a lot of butterflies in the right season...Winter isn't the right season, but hey..maybe this one was confused..

So beautiful!! Thanks for sharing that! It makes me hope that spring might come someday afterall!

i wanted to share my 2000th post with you guys ! :goodvibes
YEAH!!!!! Thanks for sharing it with us!!! :grouphug:

I didn't even think of checking the bookmarks. I just assumed that what I was asking was way too basic for you veteran sewers to have a tutorial ;) Thanks so much!!!! You have all been so inspiring and wonderful to offer help. I can't wait to post my first outfit.
The bookmark is uner techniques and how tos /using sewing patterns again..
but, in case you can't find it in the bookmarks, here's a link to the page I bookmarked: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf188057.tip.html

I started a trip report for anyone who's intrested. I didn't want to bog down this thread wih all of the pictures!! Here's a link.

Thanks! I'm off to read it now!

Hello there I am really out of the loop I didn't know the thread moved again. I am glad I found it. I have been away for a while. Trying to keep up with a first grader and twin 2 year olds is really hard work right now. I do get to peek at all the great things being shared but by the time I go to post someone is getting into trouble. I just bought fabric for the twins birthday dresses from joanns it's not Disney but it's very pretty. I also was told by my wonderful hubby to just put the sewing machine in the darn cart and go pay for it. So this weekend I came home with the brother ce-4000. Heather knows what a big deal a new sewing machine means to me my other one didn't even have guide lines or a satin stitch. It was bad. The bobbin was always sticking strings breaking. I spent more time with the seam ripper than sewing. If anyone has this one of theses sewing machines do you have any tips on using. Thanks in advance. I hope to be around more. Thanks for listening to my ramble.

I'm so excited for you!!!!! :yay: :yay: :yay: This should make things easier for you!!!

Well, my little monkey has been sick so not much posting for me. It is constantly up and down trying to make her happy. The upside is she wants a lot of rocking and cuddles, which is not the norm, and I miss it!

I did get some sewing done. The diva is not posing so no kid in them.

First time making buttons! I found these in scrapbooking stash so I didn't even have to buy any. They are not exactly the right color, but they'll do.

IMG_0060.jpg

Marie fabric I bought from :wizard: . So cute, but it smells funny! Anyway, I only bought a yard so I couldn't make the skirt as full as I would have liked it. Interestingly enough, my eight year old son picked out the coordinating fabrics (fat quarters). He is much better with colors than I am!

IMG_0055.jpg

Made these bows from scrapbooking supplies. My husband said, they are looking like real bows! :thumbsup2

The white peasant dress was scary. First of all it's white, and I do not have the perfect non-dirty child that Lori and Tom seem to have. Megan plays hard so I was worried about even making it. The fabric is "linen-like" whatever that means and is pretty heavy. I love the texture to it and we got an AG catalog today that had several peasant tops in the same kind of material. So I guess it's in! I am hoping she can wear it under several outfits, like Tom demonstrated. We'll see.

I am going to a sewing expo tomorrow through Saturday so I won't be on much, so I'll miss you guys but hopefully I'll learn a lot so I can share!

Congrats on the new machine. I think a great machine will always make sewing more enjoyable and less stress!

I think everything looks great! I really like that Marie fabric.

I think the peasant dress will be great under a lot of things. I've been considering one of those for a while now. I have a pattern for an underdress for a pinafore. I love it, but it has 9 buttons down the front! :scared1: I've made it twice now & it look great, but those button holes are a big pain.

OHHHHHH! Where did you find that Marie the cat fabric? I must get some!

My children are non-clean too. :cool2:

Hey, I think I'll do a St. Patrick's jumper too. Shoot, there's a lot going on in March.

You guys, I was slated to do Jury Duty this week but haven't been called (tues. and wed.) so my daycare kids made other plans for the week...I just have myself and Norah! So I'm getting a lot of sewing done. I'll post soonly.

oh there dirty sometimes. Not always !
oh those malaysia fabrics do have a wierd smell, but comes out when washed!
Love marie she is great!

Wow all your things look so amazing, the most I ever sewed was a mouse pin cushion with my oldest DD at 4-H a few months back, and lets just say we won't be putting that in the fair this year, next time Mom will let her do it herself, it will probable look better!! I have been intrigued by all your great ideas and I think its somthing I want to learn....now if only I can find some time and someone to teach me, LOL! I would love to start with just putting some printed Mickey heads on some regular shirts and jeans, do you all think that would be doable for a beginner. I did use a sewing machine in high school home and careers class, but that was a 10 plus years ago :)

We have ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner for our next trip and have never been there. Was wondering if anyone has suggestion for what kind of custom would be appropriate for dinner there?

How about thinking Colonial Williamsburg type of dress.:yay: I did a Colonial Dress for a 2 yo that a person ordered they wanted 3 costumes for Halloween centered around colonial times. I did a colonial boy, colonial girl and a indian girl costume. I think any of the four pattern company has patterns for this type of Dress. Nana

Honestly, applique is not what I would start with. I think a skirt or pants/shorts with elastic all the way around is gonna be your best bet to get yourself comfortable with your machine again. I bought my dd10 a beginner pattern for Christmas and it is really great. It is Simplicity 3553. It is a new "learn to sew" series. This is the only pattern in the series I have seen so far. It is jammy pants with only one side seam, so it is one pattern piece that you just cut 2 of. The directions spell out every step and even tell you why you are doing what they ask. It comes in size 7 - 14. I don't know how big your girls are, but you could probably use the pattern form them even if they would be a little baggy!

Good luck!

All the new creations look amazing! The Evil Queen jumper dress is gorgeous. The chocolate bunny looks good enough to eat. And since we are starting St Patrick's Day outfits, here is mine:
Portrait Peasant top:

Simple Twirl skirt:

And what happens when an almost 3 year old decides she should dress herself:
th_StPatricksoutfit002.jpg

Lauren thinks that any article of clothing should make a nice hat.
I used a flannel material and I love how cozy the outfit seems. Mid-March is still fairly cold here, too, so I choose the fabric for that reason also.

Adorable! And all those buttons! :scared1: You must be brave!:woohoo:
I didn't really have a choice. The only kinds of shirts that DD can wear have to have collars. Other than a Polo shirt that's all I could come up with. I don't really like to sew knits because they don't come out right for me. I decided that the buttons were the lesser of two evils. I have another one just like it that I plan on doing today or tonight.

These are so cute. I too plan on copying Tom's underdress idea, but I am not doing white. I have a nice cream color. DD is terrible with white. Her play clothes are covered in mud and grass stains that I just can't get out.

We have been friends for 15 years, yet this remains the ONE thing we fight about! :headache: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: It is DIET PEPSI girl! Just ask UtahMama and Spongie!!!!! And you better tell me if you are pregnant again! :scared1: :lmao:

GOOD LORD NO! I'd be needing MAJOR meds if I had, yet another, bun in the oven! :lmao:

So this is not as impressive of the things you all make, but I am rather proud of it - I made the dress and panties (to cover diapers) without a pattern. I think they came out rather well being from my imagination!!

I would like to thank everyone for the tip to use sulky tear away and embroidery thread for applique's - though the are still not perfect - WHAT A DIFFERENCE. . . I still have issues doing curved lines. . . but i'll get better with practice :) I did the butterfly for the diapered bootie first and the duck second - so the duck came out better :)

SOOOOO cute! I so want to case! GREAT job! And to come up with it all on your lonesome! I'm very impressed...I hate patterns, but, I wouldn't dare trust myself to come up w/anything on my own! BRAVO!!! :thumbsup2

True dat!

I've TRIED to like Diet Pepsi, HONEST I have! Remember the "Pepsi Challenge" back in the 80's? I was at the fair when I was a kid (that would be at the lovely fairgrounds in our great state) and I took the challenge and I chose COKE! They pretty much shoo'd me away w/out much comment at that point... :lmao:

So here is a picture of DD's school shirt that I made her last night.
th_S2010072.jpg

You can't see the detail in the pic because it is red on red but there is a really cute decorative stitch on the bottom of the sleeves, the shirt bottom and the collar. I also made the bows.

SO CUTE! And your dd is a little angel! I bet she is so proud of her mama!!

Of course I LOVED them. I don't think DH needs to worry though. :lmao: I'm cold too much of the time to want anyone who's not warm blooded. :rotfl: I'm having to wait on the library for Eclipse. Do we have a foot tapping smiley??? I'm not waiting patiently.

BTW, I don't want ANY diet drink, but Coke is WAAAAYYYYY better then Pepsi. ;)

See prev reply...I failed when I took the Pepsi Challenge...have you tried Coke Zero? It's quite tasty and no calories...woo hoo!
Glad you like the Twilight series, they're a fun read! I've started "Vampire Diaries" which is supposed to be quite close to the Twilight series (it was written in the early 90's apparently) and it's not anything as well written as Twighlight....

Congratulations! That's the machine I have and so far I love it! The only tip I have is to sit down and go for it. Seriously, it is so easy to use. I keep the manual close by for reference on tension, stitch types and buttonholes. Let me know if you have any questions.

Oh, I hear you. Seems like I never take pictures from fall thru Easter because I hate taking them in the dark. I practically go to work and come home in the dark so not much time for pictures. Good Luck to her at the cheer competition!!

Oh no, feel better Megan! pixiedust:

I love the outfits! I have dirt magnet kids too and just the thought of a white dress makes me cringe. Well, at least with pure white cotton you should be able to bleach it!

Have fun at the expo! Can't wait to hear all about it!
