Well, my little monkey has been sick so not much posting for me. It is constantly up and down trying to make her happy. The upside is she wants a lot of rocking and cuddles, which is not the norm, and I miss it!

I did get some sewing done. The diva is not posing so no kid in them.

th_IMG_0058.jpg

First time making buttons! I found these in scrapbooking stash so I didn't even have to buy any. They are not exactly the right color, but they'll do.

th_IMG_0060.jpg

Marie fabric I bought from :wizard: . So cute, but it smells funny! Anyway, I only bought a yard so I couldn't make the skirt as full as I would have liked it. Interestingly enough, my eight year old son picked out the coordinating fabrics (fat quarters). He is much better with colors than I am!

th_IMG_0055.jpg

Made these bows from scrapbooking supplies. My husband said, they are looking like real bows! :thumbsup2

th_IMG_0056.jpg

The white peasant dress was scary. First of all it's white, and I do not have the perfect non-dirty child that Lori and Tom seem to have. Megan plays hard so I was worried about even making it. The fabric is "linen-like" whatever that means and is pretty heavy. I love the texture to it and we got an AG catalog today that had several peasant tops in the same kind of material. So I guess it's in! I am hoping she can wear it under several outfits, like Tom demonstrated. We'll see.

I am going to a sewing expo tomorrow through Saturday so I won't be on much, so I'll miss you guys but hopefully I'll learn a lot so I can share!
Did you hear that gasp all the way down there in Florida???? That was me and Lydia admiring your Marie outfit!!!! That is SOOO cute!!! And, Jacob has a way with colors!! :thumbsup2 I hope Megan gets to feeling better soon so she can try both of these great outfits on for us!

You guys, I was slated to do Jury Duty this week but haven't been called (tues. and wed.) so my daycare kids made other plans for the week...I just have myself and Norah! So I'm getting a lot of sewing done. I'll post soonly.
OOH, I can't wait!

Wow all your things look so amazing, the most I ever sewed was a mouse pin cushion with my oldest DD at 4-H a few months back, and lets just say we won't be putting that in the fair this year, next time Mom will let her do it herself, it will probable look better!! I have been intrigued by all your great ideas and I think its somthing I want to learn....now if only I can find some time and someone to teach me, LOL! I would love to start with just putting some printed Mickey heads on some regular shirts and jeans, do you all think that would be doable for a beginner. I did use a sewing machine in high school home and careers class, but that was a 10 plus years ago :)

I would agree that applique is not the best place to start. There are free learn to sew sites in the bookmarks (link in my siggy and in the first post). A nice simple skirt would be good to start out with. Something to just get you use to the machine. Peasant tops are pretty easy too. (free pattern in the bookmarks)

All the new creations look amazing! The Evil Queen jumper dress is gorgeous. The chocolate bunny looks good enough to eat. And since we are starting St Patrick's Day outfits, here is mine:

I used a flannel material and I love how cozy the outfit seems. Mid-March is still fairly cold here, too, so I choose the fabric for that reason also.
This outfit is cute!
I really like the way you put the contrasting fabric around the neckline! What a clever idea!!! :thumbsup2

Ladies I need help

lori

Help - where is everyone

SOOOOO cute! I so want to case! GREAT job! And to come up with it all on your lonesome! I'm very impressed...I hate patterns, but, I wouldn't dare trust myself to come up w/anything on my own! BRAVO!!! :thumbsup2

Case away, lol!! I am SOOOO flattered. . . I made it with intentions to give it away and now I wanna keep it, is that selfish?? I don't even have a baby yet! We aren't even trying yet. . . lol. . . I wasn't even necessarily thinking to save it for myself but someone I am close to when they have a baby. . . we'll see . . . I have just made so many things already for my friend's baby. . . hmm

I'm sorry, I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "in a V". Do you mean that her arms are above her head making a V?

See prev reply...I failed when I took the Pepsi Challenge...have you tried Coke Zero? It's quite tasty and no calories...woo hoo!
Glad you like the Twilight series, they're a fun read! I've started "Vampire Diaries" which is supposed to be quite close to the Twilight series (it was written in the early 90's apparently) and it's not anything as well written as Twighlight....

I've tried Coke Zero & I didn't like it. I just don't like atrificial sweeteners of any kind.

I'm so excited for you!!!!! :yay: :yay: :yay: This should make things easier for you!!!
I was so excited I didn't want to spen the money and I was standing in front of it on the phone with him and he said put it in the cart and walk away before he changes his mind. So I grabbed and chucked (nicely in the cart and walkd really fast towards the register.:rotfl2:

I love it when dh does really sweet stuff like that. Enjoy your new machine!!
I think he was just fearful that I was going to finally do it. Unplug the old one head for the front door and toss it down the stairs. But all kidding aside he is a great hubby.

Congrats on the new machine. I think a great machine will always make sewing more enjoyable and less stress!
Lori

I hope so it is so relaxing for me to make things. So I hope it's alot better. I did also just order Sewing for dummies book to elp me along. I figure between a good sewing machine and book if I can't get it right their is no hope for me.

Congratulations! That's the machine I have and so far I love it! The only tip I have is to sit down and go for it. Seriously, it is so easy to use. I keep the manual close by for reference on tension, stitch types and buttonholes. Let me know if you have any questions.

Oh thank you so much. Just knowing someone from here has the same one makes me feel good.

Ok now her is the fabric for my first project on my new machine. Dresses for the twins 3 bday. May 26.

customs015-2.jpg

First attempt at this pattern, which I LOVE...I'm just horrible at ruffles! agh!
customs001-2.jpg

This is a combo of patterns I tried...
customs005-2.jpg

This is just funny...Saylor playing with one of the big girl's dolls...she loves AG too!!!
customs015-1.jpg

The big girls wanted in on some homemade action too...so, I made them jammies w/matches for their AG dolls...
customs001-3.jpg

I can't let DD see these pictures! I'll be making matching nightgowns too! I just cut out 4 AG outfits over the weekend so I don't need any additional projects right now! Great job!

UMTerp

How about thinking Colonial Williamsburg type of dress.:yay: I did a Colonial Dress for a 2 yo that a person ordered they wanted 3 costumes for Halloween centered around colonial times. I did a colonial boy, colonial girl and a indian girl costume. I think any of the four pattern company has patterns for this type of Dress. Nana

Do you mean something like this - Simplicity 3725 http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?cat=4&type=20&sec=51&startrow=1

Do you have a link to a colonial boy costume/pattern...I am not too sure what a colonial boy costume look like.

Thanks!

So...here are some things I've been working on....

You did a great job on all of them! Her smile is just wonderful!!!

Lori

uggghhhhh this is officially the worst sewing day ever. spent a long time cutting. piecing getting the applique ready. I started from the feet up!
THEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nicholas spilled something I go to clean it up and look what happened! I left the iron on the applique and burned the fabric! on the top left of minnie! UUUGGGHHHH.
I am not starting again!
IMG_0708.jpg

on a side note I did not like how this was turning out anyways

So this is not as impressive of the things you all make, but I am rather proud of it - I made the dress and panties (to cover diapers) without a pattern. I think they came out rather well being from my imagination!!

th_DSC06370.jpg

I would like to thank everyone for the tip to use sulky tear away and embroidery thread for applique's - though the are still not perfect - WHAT A DIFFERENCE. . . I still have issues doing curved lines. . . but i'll get better with practice :) I did the butterfly for the diapered bootie first and the duck second - so the duck came out better :)

This is sooo cute and I think it has a vintage look to it as well -- love it!

So here is a picture of DD's school shirt that I made her last night.
th_S2010072.jpg

You can't see the detail in the pic because it is red on red but there is a really cute decorative stitch on the bottom of the sleeves, the shirt bottom and the collar. I also made the bows.

That's a great school shirt!!!

We had a visitor in the garage yesterday...I had to get it out or it would die. When it landed on our butterflybush, I ran over and took a few pictures of it. It was absolutely huge!! The butterfly bush blooms yellow and attracts a lot of butterflies in the right season...Winter isn't the right season, but hey..maybe this one was confused..
305003079.jpg

That is a huge butterfly!

Are you talking about appliqueing Mickey heads on shirts? If so, I would probably select something a little easier for your first sewing adventure. I like the idea about some pajama pants or maybe even a pillowcase dress (I hope I am remembering right that there was a girl in your picture).

I totally agree! Real Coke for me....:thumbsup2

I would have agreed with Lauren at her age, any clothing makes a nice hat!:thumbsup2 I love your outfit... Do you use a pattern for the twirl skirt? Is it a rectangle or shaped more?

These are so cute. I too plan on copying Tom's underdress idea, but I am not doing white. I have a nice cream color. DD is terrible with white. Her play clothes are covered in mud and grass stains that I just can't get out.

See that's funny, but cream actually skeers me more than white!:scared1: At least with white I can SOMETIMES bleach it out! Although cream will make a beautiful underdress...:lovestruc
