Disappointments?

Here's something we rarely talk about, so I figured why not make a thread about it? While we all love WDW, I'm sure we've all experienced 1 or 2 not-so-great moments during our travels there.

What restaurants, hotels or attractions at WDW did/do you not want to go back to due to being disappointed?

I've had very few disappointing experiences at WDW over the years, but I will point out the 2 things that definitely come to mind--both of which were experienced in October:
-Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe: I used to really like this place because they used to have some pretty tasty burgers in the early 90's. This was not the case in October. We switched lines 3 times in order to get to a cashier to take our order. The entire process of waiting to have our order taken took about 15 minutes, even at 2pm. The people in the kitchen all looked mad and confused (not a good combo). My burger was handed to me smashed and severely overcooked and dry. There were several condiments at the do-it-yourself bar that needed refilling, like onions, pickles and ketchup. When one woman asked a CM if she would refill the ketchup she looked furious that the question had even been asked. To even get to the condiment bar took another 5-7 minutes of waiting in line, and several guests were cutting in line. Not pleasant. Some people don't seem to understand the concept of moving once you're done getting your condiments despite having a line of 20 people behind them. Instead they stand in front of the mayo/ketchup/and mustard dispensers and take calls on their cell phones. I was furious because I was starving, tired and cranky. After sitting down we noticed they had forgotten to give us one of the items we ordered, but we weren't about to go back inside to get it.

-The Fish and Chips cart in the U.K. at the Epcot Food & Wine Festival: My friend ordered the fish & chips from here and when he started eating it, it only took him about a minute to say, "This is horrible." At first I thought he was just exaggerating. Plus he's been spoiled by living close to A Salt & Battery in Greenwich Village, which has the best fish & chips I've ever eaten. I took a taste......and he was right. :sad2: It tasted like the fish had been frozen for a long time, and the batter was the dominant bland flavor. (Think Long John Silver's on one of their bad days......only twice as bad.) The fries tasted like they had suffered from freezer burn and were really dry.

Okay, I'm done. The rest of WDW is simply faaaaabulous. :beach:

I gotta say I was disappointed with the SciFi. I wanted to go so bad since I'm a movie nut and while the atmosphere was great the food was pretty lousy. Also, we got stuck in the backseat of a car with a family of four in the first two rows. The mom spent most of the meal yelling at the two kids in front of her and complaining about how cold she was.
Maybe I'll try it again sometime(when I take my niece and nephew they will probably love it) but with so many other choices I think I'll skip it for a while.

I think being disappointed also has something to do with how the person is feeling and in what mood they're in.

For example, I was disappointed in the Bistro De Paris at Epcot. This is supposed to be one of the best restaurants at the park and I had high expectations for it. As a non-cheese-eater, there are some selections I don't eat there, but there were other things. Now, the truth is that I was coming down with a cold or something when we went, so I wasn't feeling all that well, but that wasn't going to stop me from visiting WDW. As I recall, the food wasn't all that great and the service was just okay. I was most looking forward to the desserts and I don't recall them as being outstanding - again, maybe it was just me.

As for disappointments with an attraction ... Stitch's Great Escape ... yuck.

My friend who went a year ago felt the same way. :confused3 I'd still like to try it some time, though.

We're kinda foodies - we stopped going to California Grill
after two consecutive bad meals.

Too bad - It use to be one of our faves :sad2:

Jeffrey and I are kinda foodies too, which is kind of why I was timid about going since I had read a few bad reviews. We must've gone on a good night.

I've never been but I'd like to go sometime (LUV sushi) I have been to the upscale restaurant @ Wilderness Lodge and the buffalo was awesome.

Only disappointing thing ever was back in Jan. 2006 was not being able to ride the boat from Fort Wilderness over to the MK our first night there (Seriously -- I'd been talking up the boatride for MONTHS to our WDW newbie) The weather was super cold and windy so the decision to not run the boats was completely understandable -- but taking the bus was just not the same. :confused3

we haven't had many disapointments - good thing! Back in 1998 Chris and I went to Citrico's and we had the most horrible service - the waitress could not understand 2 men enjoying dinner together - it was very uncomfortable. We did go back in 07 with friends and had a fantastic meal. We also hated Ohana - the food was not good and the service horrible.

We didn't like the Luau back in 1996, went again in 07 and it was better. We LOVE Cali Grill after Chris didn't like it much the first few times.

Not much else we were disapointed in LOL.

Ooooooooooooh.......
I forgot about the Rainforest Cafe. I wasn't a fan either. It felt really "chainy" to me........which is kind of ironic since it is a chain. :lmao: I didn't know this until after I got back from the trip when I ate there.

I liked the RainForest Cafe..but only because I didn't have high expectations. Conversely, I had high hopes for Fultons Crab House in DTD...folks, when you've eaten a lobster dinner and you're raving about the POTATOES, it's not a good sign. Blandest lobster I ever had-so I ended up paying $$$$$ for really great potatoes!!!

There's nothing quite as satisfying as pricey potaters. We almost went there on our first day.....but when we saw no one was inside the place we changed out minds.

I feel the same way about the Rainforest Cafe. every time I go wiith my nieces. We have to eat there. They do have good drinks at the bar.

Restaurant: 50's Primetime Cafe.....3 strikes and you are out. That food is just not that good and definately not worth the $$$. We won't be back!

Hotel: CR....I don't know if it was the fact that we just love the Poly or what, but our stay at CR was far from ideal. I didn't like the dining options at all. We won't be back!

Ride/Attraction: Stitch's Great Escape....we love Stitch, but that attraction just sucks. We won't be back!

We're kinda foodies too (and had an incredible dinner at Bistro! :teeth: ) and I'm afraid I'm about to sound wicked picky. :guilty:

We used to love the Food and Wine Festival. Through the years it has steadily gotten more and more mainstream, with too many repetitious choices. We still go, but no where near as often as we used to.

We were not happy with the RFC either, nor Fulton's, nor Cap'n Jacks. We had a horrid meal this past fall at HoB. :( It was a group of us that time, and everyone said their meal was pretty poor. (Even the two year old)! :scared:

We did not like the food at Coral Reef, or Whispering Canyon. (Visited one time each, which is not a good indicator. Everyone has a bad day from time to time).

Attractions that we don't care for at WDW? Is there such a thing? OK. First thing that comes to mind is the boat ride in Mexico. Boring! And the Astro Orbiter thing in MK? Totally not worth the long wait.

Interesting thread!

Beaches and Cream!

UGH! Long wait for food, crappy service, really bad burgers and greasy fries and onion rings!

I don't get the fascination! :confused3

It is always a different perspective from a local. I find myself much more critical of different things living here than when you're on vacation.

Without a doubt though, my worst experience has always revolved around Disney transportation(monorails are always good though)

I was here in June 2008 and was staying at ft wilderness. The family I was with insists on "doing everything disney" so they parked their car and wouldn't drive it all week...omg I was gonna die! First of all, at park opening, they had one launcher(33 passenger) and one cruiser running. We waited(and I literally checked my watch) over 45 flippin minutes to get a cruiser after the dinky launch came to take not even a quarter of the line to MK! Now that I work in watercrafts I asked how that happened and the only answer I got was "it never should have" There should always be 2 cruisers on that route.

The other bad experiences have revolved around the busses. Honestly the only time it's ever worth it to take the bus was coming back drunk from PI. That said I was forced to use them and omg did it take FOREVER to get a bus from the park to the campground.

As for attractions, I was here as a CP when Stitch opened and I said omg this ride is pathetic! Bring back ETE! I laughed at all the people waiting in line for 2 hours for such a horrible attraction. Now there is rarely a line even during busy times. How am I not surprised?

Just to comment on something - I went to california grill in December 2007 and loved it. I do agree that being disappointed can depend on a lot of factors, but I also just want to point out how inconsistent so many things across WDW are. That's the major problem. You can go somewhere or do something and have a fantastic experience, then go back 2 weeks later and it's completely changed. I think they tried to make things more consistent by making everyone take the Disney basics class last year, but ultimately, a lot of things come down to individual CMs, be it management or front line, and sometimes it is circumstances beyond anyone's control. After all, some people want a refund because it's raining...
