Was excited about the new ship until I saw the prices. Who can afford it? Are they crazy?

People have been booking the available cruises for quite some time, which has driven the prices up exponentially. I recommend waiting until the 2013 rates drop, and checking again.

Today I happened to reprice my cruise and it went up over $2,000.00 per cabin. I originally booked on opening day.

Anna, also keep your eye open for deals next year, with the economy as bad as it is, there will be deals...we always book 'off season'..our same cabin can be 2x as much for a summer sailing! We've sailed 2x and always booked kids sail free offers...one was on a spring break week...that worked great! Just keep your eyes/ears open!

I agree w/ the others. Book when rates first come out. I waited a couple months to book mine & watched the price go up $400 from when they 1st released. The other day I priced the same cruise/same cat room & the price is over $2,000 more than what I paid!! :scared1:

The prices for Fantasy cruises in September and some in October aren't too bad yet.

We had planned to go to WDW with friends but it fell through... in the meanwhile, I got a Disney Visa card and built up some Disney bucks in anticipation of that trip. So, when we were considering a cruise, I called them and asked about our best options for booking a cruise. The CM was amazing, and very helpful to guide us to our best price. To date (mind, we booked and paid in February) we are still satisfied that we got - not only a competitive - but best price on our cruise. That being said: we would definately use our Disney Visa ammenities, but would transfer to a TA pre- final payment for the extra OBC.

Hope this helps and good luck!

If you're willing to go in off-season i.e. Sep-early Dec excluding Thanksgiving, you'll get the best pricing. I know it's during school but if your child can afford to miss school, it's your best value. You can turn the trip into an educational experience for all ages that can be a history/geography/life lesson you can't get in school (this coming from a former teacher).

We booked our Dream B2B last November while OB and got both cruises for $2900, for 3 of us! I look now and one of them is $2600 and the other is $4300!!! I could NEVER afford those prices! It really does pay to book early!

WE booked our cruise 16 months in advance...and saved a bundle.. I didn't think it would be possible to afford either.

Unfortunately, Disney's way of increasing pricing as the ship fills up is disappointing. I know the cruises we've booked on HAL can be booked 6 months after pricing opened and the prices are still the same! Rooms may disappear, but their prices don't jump thousands of dollars over a few weeks.

We were very fortunate that we booked our original August 2012 on the Fantasy on opening day and got terrific rates. Then when Disney opened up the Fall itineraries we discovered that we could sail Thanksgiving week which included the new San Juan itinerary for only $20.00 more than in August! So we upgraded for a couple of hundred to a family suite and grabbed it on opening day.

I just looked up our booking -- in April we booked a 4C (family verandah stateroom) for three adults for 11/17/12 for $4,689 (Thanksgiving week). It is now at $7,791 for the same configuration :scared1::eek::sad2: That's an incredible increase over just four months!

It's no different than airlines...they all do the same thing in the travel industry...and it's sales economics. There are folks willing to pay so until folks stop or they don't fill the ships, you won't see a change. As noted, book early, sail in off-season, and re-book while on board.

I was looking for next year this time and it was great deal for 7 days:) not sure what time of year your looking at and that was only for two that I was looking for.....

IMHALL, I just realized that you and I are booked on the same cruise! Sept 8 2012. I am so excited that I found someone booked on the same sailing! Not only is this our first Disney Cruise, but our first cruise ever and I'm feeling overwhelmed to say the least. So much to learn...Anyway looking forward to keeping up for the next year!! Beyond excited.

Man, what a downer! I was looking forward to our cruise on the Dream. Wondering now if it's worth it or if we're just wasting our money.

ETA, just read another thread that was very positive about the Dream. I guess it we are all different and two people can see the same situation (cruise) quite differently!

I can generally find the good in most situations and tend to overlook the 'bad' and the 'ugly'.....just the way I am.

I'm going on the Dream in just over a month. I don't care about the bad reviews, I'm going to sail for myself. There are good reviews, too.

I'm also on the September 8 2012 Fantasy. good price. Rebooked on board, got more off. Yes, it's prime hurricane season - no doubt that makes a difference as to pricing.

Yes prices are really high I didnt book for the fantasay as soon as they were released but a little while later, its still pretty pricey but if I had waited until now to book for next august I probably wouldnt be going, its way to much money now,. we are taking 2 of our grandkids and have been trying to add 1 more but its way to much. not a big deal though as my grandson I am trying to add is on the magic for a 5 night in April; and we had taken him last January for a 7 night on the magic, I was just hoping if it wasnt to much I would add him in so far its not gonna happen. 4 of us in a 4a almost 7 grand but its up over that at this point in time! When we cruised in nov 2009 for the 4 of us in an oceanview cat we paid around 3800 wish we could find a price like that now!:scared1:

Very well put.

I wish you all wouldn't let other people's opinions sway your decision to sail on one of the new ships! There are pros and cons with ANY cruise line -- their older ships versus their newer. There were very mixed reviews for the Holland America Zaandam that we are sailing in Alaska next year, biggest complaint being it's old (2001). But there were a lot of good reviews also.

Hey, for every 10 good reviews I can show you 10 lousy ones. But if you want to sail on one of the new ships, you should not let that stop you! Make your own judgments once you have been onboard, and please board with an open mind ;)
