So I applied for a full time job at a place that I work part time as a second job. I didn't get it. It's really frustrating because I've worked there five and a half years and applied for 6 full time positions. It's annoying that people who have been working here far less time than I have have gotten these full time positions. Slightly sour grapes I know but still angry.

Is it full time in your dept or in another dept?

Sometimes they like to keep people in the same dept so the bosses wont let them switch ( happens at the hospital all the time)

Or you have made yourself irreplaceable by working hard and they dont want to lose that by promoting. Exp. if you are willing to pick up odd/ extra shift.

I am sure there is more to the story though. After 5 years and six applications for F/T work, there needs to be a reason to why you are not landing the job.

Are you being flexible with your hours to work F/T (ie you work P/T days but the full time job is nights), weekends etc?

The full time job is a week day job I work weekends. The only issue I can think of is that the managers who do the hiring work during the week and therefore I don't see them very often. We'll see what happens. I still plan to stay on.

we often only post the jobs because HR makes us. Sometimes they even make me interview people. But in reality, I have already given the job to someone else. This happens 80% of the time that I have an opening in my dept.

They do that at my company too. I think its kind of a messed up thing for companies to do. It happened to me once and I knew the manager had already picked who he wanted to work for him but he went ahead with interviews anyway. I felt like it was total waste of my time - the manager knew nothing about what I have done in my paste let alone what I did currently for the company (I have been there for 13 years) and you can totally tell it was just a formality to interview me. Good thing I didn't get the job though because they eliminated that position about a year ago. I have worked on special projects with the manger since then - I wonder if he knows now what I do for the company :confused3

I just wanted to put my perspective on how it feels when this happens because I have experienced it first hand. OP good luck in getting a full time postion/.

Thanks everyone for your theories and suggestions and support. I am incredibly lucky that I already have a full time job and this position would have made my part time job my full time job. It has been a dream/ goal to work at this place full time. Just gotta keep plugging along I guess.
