Disappointed with upkeep of rooms at SSR

Hope to be pleasantly surprised not disappointed as we own there and never have stayed:thumbsup2
I've had 4 stays at SSR, 2 in the Carousel area (to be avoided at all cost) and 2 in Congress Park (fantastic, favorite area) within the last 16 months and the rooms, cleanliness etc. have superceded my expections each time. ;)

hopefully we will have a good stay its supposed to be very hectic CHRISTMAS week:santa:

Personally with the carpet looking worn I think it is the style of the carpet. I do not like the carpet in the SSR rooms at all, no matter what building we are in the carpet just doesn't look right. Only one time in our 6 stays have we had a really questionable room as far as cleanliness goes. I have to agree with everyone else on if when you check in and your room is not satisfactory call right away and get it taken care of instead of waiting.

I agree I think it is the style of the carpet that makes the room a little "not perfect".

We are currently in a room in Grandstand and its not too bad. Of course they put us in the farthest out building #5912 when I requested Grandstand near the main pool and food area. Didnt find out until we were practically at the room how far it was and didnt want to walk back and complain. Kind of a bummer when its raining like it is right now

DW and I have never had a problem with cleanliness in the rooms but during one visit noticed that the carpet did look a little worn. Always feels like Disney to me when we stay at SSR, I love my home resort!!! :thumbsup2

I've had clean sheets on sofa beds in Jambo house and the rest of the needed things were in a plastic bag. Getting the sofa bed opened there has been a challenge for me and my friends!!! We called for help once!

Bobbi:goodvibes

PS. Had a studio in great condition Paddock section in August.

It appears that Congress Park area gets a lot of use, During a visit 2 years ago we found the carpets worn more than I've seen at any other DVC resort, and the edges of the cabinet doors (which are made of pressed paper) were also worn, we assumed it was due to the popularity of the Congress Park area of the resort

We stayed in Springs in Sept and our 2 bdrm unit was in pretty good shape. I will say, however, that the sofa was very uncomfortable to sit on. I always felt like the cushions were falling in. :confused3

We have stayed in Congress Park many times and I adore it. On our most recent trip, though, our room did appear worn out in some ways. It was not enough to request a new room, but it is something that we reported for management's knowledge.

The problems were:
Sofa Bed worn out...hard to open, bottom panel not attached right, lumpy mattress (we've always liked those sofa beds in the past, so this was a surprise.)

Carpet worn out...it wasn't just the pattern of the carpet. There was a clear "pathway" in the traffic areas of the carpet where it was worn.

Mildew stains in shower grout.

A lamp didn't work.

Missing a couple kitchen supplies.

One thing we've never had trouble with at SSR is the buses, so I guess we're lucky there. Yes, we've had a twenty-minute wait every so often, but more often we walk up exactly at the moment our bus is pulling into the stop. I've always been surprised by all the complaints there. I really like Disney transportation, so when I do get a little bit longer of a wait, I guess it just doesn't bug me.

Stayed first time 12/24/2010 to 1/1/2011 2 room lockoff plus another studio
studio fine 2 room lockoff shower handle broken, phone not working took 4 days to repair, bathroom exhaust fan net working. not very happy with room.
This is resort we own what are they doing with our dues this is first stay at the resort we own.:headache::confused3

We still had a great trip other than the room:santa::santa::santa::santa::santa::santa::santa::santa::santa::santa::santa: will think twice about bringing all 11 of us :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Sometimes the sheets are on the sofa bed, but the pillows and blanket are in the closet. Unless you have one of the new sofa beds that have self storage. Then the pillows and blanket are in the back of the sofa. When you flip it forward you can see them in there.

We were at BWV the last part of November and first few days of December - and had two friends fly down to stay with us for the night before we all left for our Disney Cruise.

I was shocked at how cool the self storage sofa beds are! What a GREAT idea! Not only is it a cool idea - our friends said that it was the most comfortable sofa bed they had ever slept on! Which in all reality is saying something... becuase usually sofa beds are a pain in the back, the butt, the shoulders, and everywhere else! :lmao:

When we opened the sofa bed up it was fully made with the blanket - and it was all tucked in by mousekeeping - so I know it wasn't used by previous guests.

Disney need to realize that the more they skimp on mousekeeping - all over property, not just at DVC resorts - the more guests are going to complain.

I have read review after review after review on travel websites about how dirty Disney's rooms are getting. You can only cut back so much before there is a sacrifice in quality and in turn value.

Here is my list of demand for Disney Resort Hotels:
- GET FITTED SHEETS!
-Ditch the polyester bedspreads - it's the the 21st century - every high end hotel has upgraded their bedding to be plush, posh and sophisticated - get with the game Disney!
- CLEAN every square inch of ever room at least once a month - that means brushing and vaccumming the dust off the top of curtains too - and cleaning between the spindles on the backs of chairs!
- CLEAN THE SOAP DISHES for CRYING OUT LOUD!!! There is always soap scum in our soap dishes when we check in!
- Get rid of the Laminate counter tops in ALL of the DVC resorts. They don't hold up - and they look so dated, and feel so cheap!
- CLEAN THE FLOOR BEHIND THE BATHROOM DOORS! We're not dumb - neither of us have long black hair - so we know that hair doesn't belong to either of us!
- CLEAN THE VENTS!!!! The dust on the vents is very visible - don't think that just becuase it happens naturally that it should be left there to collect and look totally GROSS! If you clean 2 vents a day on each wing/building - all the vents will be cleaned at least once a month.
Finally - PLEASE replace plastic fixtures (phones and hair dryers) when they have turned a horrible shade of yellow - it REALLY isn't attractive!

Anyone else have a demand to add?!?! :rotfl:

We've yet to stay at our home resort of SSR but I can say its not just an issue there. We had a 2bd at OKW last month that was filthy!! We didn't get into the room until 9pm and only noticed a few things. Next morning we really noticed. Visible black mold in the shower, stove top was filthy like something had boiled over and no one cleaned it, food on the floor, food crumbs on the floor and bathroom counters were dirty. I ended up cleaning it. We were to get a full cleaning once during our stay and they ended up just taking the trash and throwing a pile of towels in one bathroom. We had a few things broken and/or missing as well.

What makes it worse is on checkout day mousekeeping came knocking loudly at the door at 8:30am asking why we were not out yet. WHen I told her we will be out shortly she asked what time all huffy. When I let her know we owuld be out by check out which is by 11 am she stormed off. We were actually loading the car to leave. So a few minutes later when I went to lug more bags out to the car I nearly tripped on the basket of linens they had left out front of our room.

We did say something to the front desk. I know it was too late and I should have addressed it early on. I took care of most of the filth myself. OUr DD is autistic and I never know when she will need a break so thats why we love DVC I don't have to deal with mousekeeping.

I did let member services know about the issues because I feel it definatly needs to be addressed. I can say that if that was my first time at WDW or just at a DVC resort I would probably never have returned!

We had a worn down studio in SSR in the spring last year. I reported all of the issues upon checkout because I wanted to make sure Disney was made aware but none of the things were really a hinderance to our vacation. We had THREE broken handles on the TV cabinet/dresser. They were just hanging off by a screw, very visible, mousekeeping could have easily seen it. We had a broken lamp. The finial at the end of our curtain rod was broken off and we were missing two knobs in the kitchenette area.

Again, these weren't things that ruined our vacation in anyway but definitely left a rather bad impression of the upkeep at SSR. We were staying on developer points but would have been really disappointed if it had been our first stay on our own points at our home resort.

We just got back from our first trip to a DVC resort on our newly purchased points. We were super excited to not be staying at the All-Star again :rotfl2: We got a great studio lockoff - 4th floor in Congress Park with a great view of most of the pool, playground and Downtown! Loved the location and listening to the bustle at Downtown between Christmas and New Years :) We too noticed that the room was a bit worn. The carpet really no longer had a pattern except under the sink where it was still vibrant. The kitchen cabinet doors under the sink had scrapes on both corners. There was a small spot of mold on the ceiling of the bathroom and the vent was very dusty as well. Our other complaint is the stupid motion sensor on the bathroom vent... They really should set the timer for 20 or 30 mins instead of the 5 that ours was. It was annoying getting out of the shower into a fog.

strange odor upon checkin in studio and food on floor quite visible in 1 bedroom area, a/c broken. Got manager involved, asked for new room. Could not get one as it was January 2nd, so would have to wait till next day. Housekeeping merely sprayed carpet a few times with something and left. The air was repaired. Manager did compensate us and we do appreciate that. We weren't beligerent, but were very clear how disappointed we were with condition of room upon check in. We did not ask for anything. We wanted manager to know the condition of room. Later we have found that: kitchen sink faucet is very loose, needs a new one. Several kitchen knobs are loose; shower grout is looking dingy; kitchen table has several ink 'art work' written onto it. We did tell the manager this and he said to request a new table. We did. Of course we don't have a new table. Pretty disappointed in this room. Love location, not condition of room. We stayed at a gorgeous Hampton Inn this summer that would put this to shame.

Ugh. This isn't what a potential DVC member wants to hear. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to know the truth but it's disheartening to say the least. :sad1:
