Disappointed with upkeep of rooms at SSR

Just curious if anyone else has been recently disappointed when checking into a DVC accommodation. We arrived on Nov 17 and were very surprised to find that the room was extremely worn, carpet, walls, furniture....all in terrible condition. Plus the place really didn't look very clean. Not the way that you want to have twin 17 month olds crawling around.

We checked in to SSR on 12/11 at 9:00 AM and we got our room at 5:00. Requested Congress Park and got Grandstand. Room wasn't worn, (not like all of our stays at BLT) but it wasn't cleaned properly. They re-cleaned it and we settled in at 6:30. According to the CM's, this is a common problem and it is increasing due to increased occupancy rates and not enough Mousekeepers.

That stinks. We had our first SSR stay in August and thought everything was in great shape. Like the PP mentioned, did you report it to anyone?

Requested SSR Congress Park, DTD view for Nov21 thru Nov26, 2br + a studio. Got a lovely partial view of the water and the courtyard, 2nd floor (2030, 32 & 36), villas were in excellent shape, no signs of wear and tear, clean & stocked with the appropriate items. We had family from France, new to both Disney & DVC and they were tickled pink with the accomodations, as we all were. Really, nothing at all to complain about! Trips like this help me re-affirm what an excellent decision it was to purchase DVC!

We had a problem also at SSR. We had to use the sofa bead, and, when we got into the room, child was getting her bed ready and we found out that the bed hadn't any sheets or other beding.

The Boss called housekeeping, and, in her sweet, gentle way, told them about it. She was told that they no longer kept the sofa beds made. She then called the front desk and next day, someone came in and made that bed.

We usually don't have problems at SSR. We love it actually, but, every place will have their bad days.

I've never had a sofa bed made in all of my 35+ DVC travels, the mattress cover, the sheets, blanket, pillows, etc, for the sofa bed are kept in the master closet. Personally, if I did find it made, it would be my assumption that the sheets weren't removed from the previous guests!

Sometimes the sheets are on the sofa bed, but the pillows and blanket are in the closet. Unless you have one of the new sofa beds that have self storage. Then the pillows and blanket are in the back of the sofa. When you flip it forward you can see them in there.

We stayed at SSR in August and again in October and I extremely pleased with the cleaniness and condition of the room.

I hope while you were there you let them know, so they could deal with it.

I do agree with Jim Lewis on this, that as members we need to help let management know that the room needs attention and do it while we are there, not later after we leave.

We have had to use the sofa bed twice in our past visits and both times we made the bed up, it was not done for us. As for wear and tear, the only real issue that I have had is that the sofa cushions slide backwards and the hard part of the base of the sofa hits me in the back of the thighs when I'm sitting there. Didn't have this issue in October when we stayed in a THV but the style of the sofa was different there...

last summer we ran into a lady at the bus stops who said that the housekeeping of her SSR room was a disappointment and she felt she could get a better value offsite :) I was speechless.

We just got back from the Springs at SSR on Sun., room was very clean, a few marks on the coffee table, but no complaints from us! My sister thought it was all beautiful!

We stayed in a studio this past Nov. and we were also disappointed. First time ever staying at SSR or any DVC. Was OK, not great.

To me the room looked worn, the sofa bed was hard as a rock and 2 drawers of the dresser were broken.

The extra blanket for the sofa bed had what looked like a fresh stain. I called housekeeping to get a new one. A cast member brought it very fast, but knocked once and just walked right in before I could open the door. It was the middle of the day so I’m guessing she thought we were not in the room. I was glad none of us had just gotten out of the shower!

We rented a car and drove to the parks but one morning wanted to try taking the bus to MK. We arrived at the bus stop early at 8am and waited 50 minutes for the MK bus!

The castmember working the bus stop had to call for a bus to be sent. I overheard the castmember say to a guest that the each DVC has their own budget for the internal buses and that the resort was trying to save some $ by having fewer buses.

My husband and I both agreed we would stay at a condo offsite before staying at SSR again. You get more for the money and I don’t feel SSR has much of a Disney feel to it. We did have a fun vacation but I think it would have been just the same or better at an offsite condo.

Just my personal opinion. Last time we stayed at Pop and enjoyed that more.

We are trying Boardwalk next year and hopping for a better experience.

Surely you don't shower without putting the latch and deadbolt on your door.

Everyone please remember every time you walk into a hotel room, someone else has a key to it, deadbolt and latch your doors.

Excellent point!
It's your home away from home but you still have to be cautious!

Not since I watched Psycho at age 10!:goodvibes

I too have noticed that SSR does not pre-make the sofa beds. Never had a premade bed at SSR. So far AKV does, which is nice.

The buses can be hit or miss.

Hope to be pleasantly surprised not disappointed as we own there and never have stayed:thumbsup2

Dh and I stayed at SSR for the first time last month. We liked it very much, but our studio was in really sad shape. Furniture was all dinged up, and the paint on the sink cabinet was missing ... about a 4"x5" area! We did report the condition of the place. In all the hotels we've stayed at, I've really never seen such abuse done to a room.

Personally with the carpet looking worn I think it is the style of the carpet. I do not like the carpet in the SSR rooms at all, no matter what building we are in the carpet just doesn't look right. Only one time in our 6 stays have we had a really questionable room as far as cleanliness goes. I have to agree with everyone else on if when you check in and your room is not satisfactory call right away and get it taken care of instead of waiting.
