Dance, My DH is suffering from the same funk. He is driving me CRAZY!!! There is nothing like a sick man to make you want to run, screaming from the house. He is such a big baby. I finally told him to man up or I was going to tell his cop buddies what a wuss he was. I too, have been up for 2 nights listening to him hacking up a lung. I wanted to stifle the noise with a pillow last night but didn't want to go to jail. Hey, think of it this way, at least you will be used to the sleep deprivation when the baby arrives.
Ha, I was thinking the same thing. I told him to 'man up' actually on Sunday. He was moping around still milking his illness. I knew he was better by then since he went to work Sat, just using it as an excuse to leave me to do everything around here with DD:mad: Sunday is usually 'daddy day' because he is always home, sort of my day off. Not this week!

That is the exact cake I made for DD's b-day! I didnt put mine on a sheet cake though.

Well, I'm going to be attempting to make chocolate covered strawberries tonight. I had no clue what to get for my wife (I can't even send flowers to her work since she works at a prison and glass vases are a major no-no); then we were watching FoodTV this past weekend and saw chocolate covered cherries. She made a comment about how much she likes them, and the light bulb went off in my head. I didn't like the prices that I was finding online to have some sent to her work, so I thought I'd try to make them myself. I love to cook, but I'm not very good at baking. So we'll see how this goes. I bought the chocolate and strawberries last night and have them hidden in the basement fridge. I'm scoping out the different pots and pans at home to see which ones will make an appropriate double boiler. And as soon as she goes to bed (always 9:00, on the dot), I'm going to give it a whirl.
Ditto adding crisco/shortening to it. You only need to add a teaspoon or so to a bag of chocolate chips to make it pretty and shiny. It dries harder too I think. Now I want chocolate strawberries too!!

Here's the pic of my cake,

050.jpg

I usually really take my time, and get the best pic possible, but wax was dripping down off the candles, so I had to blow them out. I did get them out in one breath, so my wish should come true. :goodvibes
How pretty!!

- I want chocolate covered strawberries too...

My back is "out" of commission - owie, its spasm'ing - and I'm watching tv, the Barefoot Contessa had choc.cov. stra'berrs - - and I thought *duh now I know what I'm supposed to have gotten at the store!! :sad2:

and head's up - tonight or tomorrow is a "no practical pajama day"
(or you can opt to get exercise points and just stay in bed tomorrow to "exercise"!!)

just sayin... :rolleyes1
(alli how many exercise points are you going to get?? GO HERC's HEROES!!)
Hope your back feels better! I know how much fun that can be!

And no chance on me observing the no practical PJ's rule around here! I highly doubt I would be a very pretty sight in anything I would have here that is less than practical and tent like these days.:rotfl:

Grrrrr; I had stuff quoted, and my IE crapped out on me when I hit Reply. And now I don't remember what I had quoted!

Happy Birthday disneyfav4ever!

For the questions about when to weigh in for the V-Day challenge, that is entirely up to you. I'll probably be taking my Friday weight, but that's just me. This is a very informal, motivational technique, so I'm just making it up as I go along. If you would like to weigh yourself tomorrow morning, and then again Friday and take the lower of the two number, then that's fine by me.

Which reminds me -- does Easter sound logical for the next one? That would be 5 weeks. (Although, it would technically be a Good Friday challenge.) That could be a little difficult, but then the next major holiday is Tax Day on April 15. Any thoughts?

I will weigh in on Friday morning as usual.:goodvibes It will make me be good tomorrow night.:thumbsup2 And I think easter would be good for the next one.I like the challenges but I don't have to do one...

You know, I have thought of doing this. I have lately been adding breakfast but only in the 100-150 calorie range. I think I need to up it and add more protein.
Definitely add some protein,it really works. You can still keep it low calorie if you want.

I got one child well and another is sick now.:sad2: I feel pretty crappy myself and it is soo cold here.I know its not cold by alot of your standards but to me its freezing. My kids got so excited when they saw a few snowflakes this afternoon.

Dance: sounds like DH had the flu. Flu has been really rampant here in AL. My DH and DS had it 2 weeks ago. I got a can of Lysol and felt like I was performing a cleansing ritual everytime one of them tried to leave their quarantine. I sparyed everything- like I was warding off evil spirits :lmao: Wash your hands alot and stay well.

To my northern peeps- you make me cold just listening to you talk of snow. We had some flurries here today. It was in the 30's with a windchill in the
20's. I know this sounds kinda "warm" to some of you. I'm FREEZING!!!

MJ: We dropped the physics and added chemistry in its place. I at least had chemistry in high school and college. (i'm a RN) Thanks for the offer to help though.

I'm gonna check out the tours- I hadn't thought of those but that does sound like fun.

Last but not least- chocolate?? Oh, what sin!!! We use paraffin when we make home made resse's cups. pb/ crushed graham crackers and confectioner sugar - i think- i'd have to ask mom to be sure- then melt semi-sweet chocolate and 1/2 block of paraffin in double boiler. roll pb in to balls and dip in chocolate. I love chocolate covered strawberries too! DD and I splurged last VD and bought 1- yes just 1- from the Godiva place- we only got 1 because they were $4 each!!:cloud9:

Thanks Wendy. Now we are making them and I have to dip sons cookies in the chocolate for his party tomorrow.

What's the best kind of chocolate to buy for this?

We make chocolate covered strawberries for parties all the time. They are a bif favorite at our mother's day brunch. We just melt Chocolate chips in the microwave and then dip the strawberries in the chocolate and let them dry on a wax paper covered cookie sheet. People think we worked sooooo hard and they love them!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Easiest thing to make in the world ( well ok ice is easier)

Sandy, you are sooo funny. This post reminded me of that post long ago when your DH wanted to meet you at home, I think it was for lunch....and he actually really meant for lunch!:lmao: :lmao: tho you thought he meant something else!:rotfl2:

:rotfl2: I'm telling you, there is a reason why we've stayed married 26 years!! (and one is right now dh is telling me he feels bad we're not going to WDW next year - he keeps tempting me - "what about going for the food fest?" dh, what food fest? F&W WDW!!! :faint: would someone tell dh to stop tempting me!! WE HAVE TO PUT MONEY TO DS WEDDING!! dh replies "its not all about him dear, we can still go somewhere - we could do that marathon, and be back in time for the wedding" :faint:

gotta luv him!!

My back is feeling much better!! really!!

We're going to sign up for a full/half marathon for May!! Gotta get to training!! (I HATE running, truly - but looking at dresses - is even MORE depressing!!)

i forgot to tell you guys - ray came in with a huge bouqet of buttercups. he said he saw them on the side of the road and it's going to get below freezing tonight, so he thought instead of letting them die he'd bring them home to me.

i must be crazy. i volunteered to work tomorrow night at longhorn. figured why not - it's valentine's day and we don't celebrate it. i might as well make money off people who do!

UM - i read your DL mini TR and i loved it! looks like you guys had a lot of fun in that short amount of time!!! i can't wait to go there one day.

aaron - i probably won't be able to report valentine's day challenge numbers to you until friday. i have court probably all day tomorrow and then i work tomorrow night.

have a good night, peeps! :flower3:

Let me just say it will be to Infinity and Beyond!!!! :rolleyes1 Go Buzz's Brigade!!

Tell Tim, I'm jealous! I can't use the turning 40 excuse, so I got nuthin'. :sad2: I would LOVE to go now that I "know" more of the WISH team.

Oh, and I've been freezing all day long too. We had the preschool party today, and the temp in our lunchroom was 59 degrees. Our youth minister came and looked at the thermostat and said that it was on Air Conditioning. :scared1: Luckily, he fixed it, and once we got all the parents in there it warmed up due to just the volume of folks.

Since most of you live to the right of me and it's after midnight for you, I wanted to wish all of you a Happy Valentine's Day.

I'm glad the weigh-in is still going to be on Friday. DH wanted to take me to the country club for dinner and I told him no, not with a weigh in the next morning. He even showed me the menu in an attempt to tempt me but I held firm and I'm staying home and eating healthy. I've got to finish this challenge with a loss of some sort.

I'm watching AI too. I'm a reality TV junkie and I've watched all seasons. Heck, I had to give up food, I'm keeping my TV.

TO OUR FAVORITE GLITTER PRINCESS..

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DISNEYFAV4EVER!

Have a spectacular day!
Happy Birthday from me too!!!!

Ray's buttercups sound better than any valentine roses -

I like your values/priorities! Working sounds like a great plan - best of both worlds - celebrating just because! And making a little Disney cash on other people's celebrations!

You are allowed, you were in DL for the sake of Pete. :) On the topic of corndogs, me being a vegetarian, I have long fogotten (14 years) the taste of these treats. But, I found a vegetarian version that is excellent. They are made by Morningstar and are ly 150 cals. I cook them in the toaster oven and they are really good. :thumbsup2

I love the vegetarian corn dogs. Trader Joe's has their own, and they are yummy! I have to have a big pile of mustard with them, tho.

Funny about the hubby too. I tell mine to cowboy up. At least we can laugh about it. He's sawing a log next to me right now, so I better not say too much about him.

DisFav- Hope you enjoyed your princess b-day. It sounded like fun to me.

 to everyone who's sick or has someone in the family who is.

I did a bad, bad thing tonight. I had already eaten my cals for the day, and then we went to a prayer meeting where they had a ton of snacks. At the end, I grabbed a piece of pizza and ate it. Why? Lord only knows. I'll really be lucky to be a samer this week. I put together 50+ Valentines with a chocolate heart attached, and ate a few of the hearts myself over the course of this week. We definitely do Valentines at school and home. If anyone wants to read a great story about the real Valentine (it's a kid's book but VERY touching), read Saint Valentine by Robert Sabuda. I have a hard time doing it as a readaloud because I get choked up. He was a martyr, ya know!

Hey California peeps!

You guys can talk to me. I work 11p-7a in the Central time zone so I'm usually up. :surfweb:

good morning!
so..i did a sneaky peak at my weight this mornign and so far it looks like i am a loser..a small loser, but a loser nonetheless..so i think i may wait till tommorow and see if i can will some more off by then ;).
Have a great day everyone! :)

Quick update:

My grandfather will have surgery on his wounds either Friday or Monday. They are waiting for there to be a better delineation between the dead and healthy tissue. They will not be putting him under to do this because he is too weak. His broken neck seems to be causing pain in his legs but they are not completely sure the two are connected. He refuses to eat the hospital food and they have yet to get him out of bed. He will probably be moved to a nursing home sometime next week to start some kind of rehab.

Anywho, I am down 1lb [/SIZE]for the week. I am not surprised since I haven't made it to the gym because of me knee. It is feeling better so I will be back to it on Monday.

Thanks for the strawberry advice everyone! But I didn't intend to start a run on chocolate covered strawberries! The recipe I used is actually more complicated (and probably much less healthy) than what you all have been describing. Mine called for 1.5 cups of semi-sweet chocolate, 2 tbsp of corn syrup, and 6 :scared1: tbsp of butter. I didn't realize how much stinkin' chocolate this would make, so I ended up dipping a couple bananas in it too. And I've still got at least cup of it left. I kept it in the bowl and put it in the fridge; and of course it hardened so now I've got a bowl of rock solid chocolate. I'm thinking I can microwave it and dip pretzels or peanuts in it and bring them to work to fatten up my co-workers. Anyway, the strawberries look really good; but the true test will be when we go to eat them tonight.

I did a pre-weigh in this morning, and I'm the same as last week so far. But unlike previous weeks, if I end up a samer I'll be ok with it. I tried to behave myself on my birthday, but I just can't resist my mom's birthday cakes!

And the snow continues to fall. They are calling for another 5-6 inches before the end of the night. Global warming, where are you when we need you?!?

Have a great day everyone!

Dawn, you should make great $$ tonight.:thumbsup2

I was supposed to work my last shift at Kohls tonight but Rachel is really sick,we are going back to the doctor again today, and even though I know DH could take care of her...Anyway I feel crappy too so I let someone else have my hours.

I think I am going to surprise the kids with making chocolate strawberiies tonight.I have two kids that LOVE to cook so I thought it would be fun.:goodvibes

Ate veggies for dinner and a frittata this morning to make up for the Choclate covered Strawberries me and DH just made and are waiting to eat. We just used a 1/2 pound Hershy bar with a small dollop of crisco melted on a double boiler.

One of my daycare kids swiped two of them while they were drying.... She was covered in chocolate and had to sit in time out since I specifically told her to NOT touch.

YUM! Just need to make up for it with all other foods eaten. :confused3
