I'm new here, (not to the DIS, just the Wish board,) and am trying to lose weight. I would love to be able to get back down to a size 12. I'm a size 16 right now, so while I'm not horribly obese, I do want to lose some weight.

Punkin - be careful, this Peep board may have some PG vibes goin on!!!

i went back and edited it just to be safe, even though i've seen WAY worse stuff on other threads.

Punkin is a great resource too, so if you only buy one book, I'd go for the Passporter!! (and then use all of us!!!)

i'm a great resource? thanks for the compliment, but i highly doubt that! i love to plan disney vacations, but i have to consult MANY other resources to go about doing it. and i never said i was GOOD at it! :lmao:

laura - tour guide mike is good, but his site is sometimes confusing to use. so if you do sub to it just be patient.

I have a question regarding exercising.

My plan is to do the treadmill no less than 4 times a week. I walk at a steady pace and alternate with running.

Do I need to do anything else? Is that all I need? Will that help tone my body?

Like right now, from the running, my butt is sore. I know the muscles were worked.

I also stretch before and after the work out. Some stuff I picked up from the tae bo tapes.

not that i'm an expert, but from what i know, you will mostly lose weight from walking/running rather than tone because it's basically all cardio. now don't get me wrong - you will def. do some toning with your legs and butt. but if you wanna tone more you need to do weights. i'm trying to concentrate more on the cardio (which i hate) until i reach my goal weight, then i'll concentrate more on toning. i still do weights every week, but i just try to do more cardio than weights.

if you have a gym nearby that offers les mills classes, i would definitely look into joining. they offer a class called "body pump" that's EXCELLENT for toning and it makes weight lifting fun because they put it to music. anna bases her classes off of it. anyway, here's the website for the body pump class to tell you more about it. i think there's a link there for a class locator. oh, and if you find a gym that has les mills classes, i hope they offer "body jam"! it's my FAVORITE cardio workout.....so much fun!

I also just weighed myself, and I used to be 200 pounds. I am now 196. So I lost four pounds since the last time I weighed myself, which I think was about a month ago.

And my mom tells me I keep on gaining weight. :confused3

I was just posting on your thread about wanting to lose weight!

disneyfav4ever :welcome:

I really hope you find what you are looking for.

Everyone here is wonderful and we cheer each other on.

We all follow something that we find works best for us. Some do WW, some South Beach, counting calories (take the weight you want to be at, multiply that by 12 and that's the total amount of calories you can eat a day and lose weight.) That's Melinda's formula. It worked for my son.

We weigh ourselves on Fridays and report our progress.

Make the numbers large so Wendy, utahmama can total the numbers at the end of the day.

Since the year stared I think we are over 100 pounds lost for the group.

WIdisfan (aaron) has mini challenges for us. The next one's up on Valentines day.

Just chime in when you want to challenge yourself to lose 5 or 10 pounds before a certain date.

It's all about baby steps.

Good luck to you!

I just want to check in to say 'hi.' I'm having a very very bad day and I am going to try really hard to stay strong. We had to put one of our kitties to rest this morning. She darted through the living room past one of our dogs who isn't known for playing well with cats. She came out of nowhere and the dog grabbed her across the back. We were never able to figure out exactly where she was injured but they couldn't keep air from leaking and collecting under her skin. She couldn't breathe and I know she had to be in pain. So we did the only thing we could do.
That is so sad.

We have a dog and three cats at my house, but they always behave with each other. Actually the male cat is the meanest one. He takes over everything, especially the dog's bed, and eats everyones food.

I think I'll look into that PassPorter and Tour guide Mike before I make my final decisions. I always just got that Birk something or other. Cant' remember the name right now.

I think I lost four pounds since the begining of the year. I can't go on a "traditional" diet, since I can't give up certain foods, and South Beach would certainly never work, since that's the one that cuts out carbs, correct?

I think I'll try the 12x calorie thing. That seems to be what would be best for me, and the way I eat. So I'll aim for 150 by September, (my trip to Disney,) so that gives me eight months to lose 46 pounds. That seems somewhat doable, and that way I can still eat 1,800 calories a day. That seems like more then enough.

My biggest problem is snacking, and not realizing how much I eat at a time. Like betweent yesterday and this morning I ate a whole bag of mini rice cakes. That's like 390 calories, which actually isn't too bad. But I also ate about 300 calories worth of Doritos this afternoon. As well as the yogurt I had for breakfast, (100,) and then my lunch of pierogies, (360,) and a fruit cup parfait thing, (110,) and also a banana, (105.) So, so far today I've had 1365 calories. I guess 1,800 really isn't that many after all. They do add up quickly. And I still have dinner to eat, (I think I'll have salad, with no croutons tonight!) and work to get through, (no doughnut tonight either.) Then I'll just have to stop myself from snacking when I get home, (at midnight,) from work.

I have Pass Porter and TGM.

I love the Pass Porter, since at this point I don't really "need" a guidebook, but I do like the pocket-pages, and the charts and stuff inside. It works very well for me as an organizer.

I also like TGM, though I usually just use that for the LCPC. I rarely use the forums over there anymore, since it takes awhile to get an answer. If you do join there, you can always PM me if you need any help using his site.

Don't forget the importance of water. Sounds like you have a plan.

Dawn I have this image of me causing the entire class to fall over like dominos. I'll have to find something less intense and then work up to that.

Your plan sounds good. I've really got to get better at counting my calories.:teacher: For your snacking you might want to pick up some 100 calorie packs. They are my new favorite snack. And I can easily add 100. :rotfl:

There's actually a Hershey's one I love, it hass mini kissables, and cocoa cereal, as well as chocolate chips.

Has anyone ever used this site http://www.nutritiondata.com/ You can use it to figure out calories in recipes. I just used it for a recipe I'm going to make at some point this week. It also says what's good, and what's bad about each recipe.

OK Peeps, if I have to exercise, somebody else better get up and get a mile in!! (and I wont make anyone go outside to do it!! )

Ok, I took your challenge. I did 2 miles in 30 minutes! :cheer2: I even did it OUTSIDE! Of course it is 51 degrees down here and no snow. ;) Just wish I could post my stuff on the challenge board. Come Friday, I'm gonna be smokin'. :rolleyes1

I didn't see your challenge Sandy. I did do the tread mill and I did get in 1.9 miles. Hope that counts.
