And my friend from Indy and her DH are both zoo keepers at the Indianapolis Zoo, and we have a savanna view room, so this ought to be a really great trip! If you want to try to meet up, let me know. :) I think Kat's gonna be there too. Anyone else?
Sounds like a really fun trip!!
Quick Question:: To be a zookeeper do you have to be a vet or do you take zoo keeping classes??

Welcome to all the new peeps!
Thanks:goodvibes
Abish19/SingingMUA/Sleeping*beauty - Welcome back!
Thanks:goodvibes
Welcome back. You can so lose that weight by the end of June.
Thanks:goodvibes :goodvibes
Hi All,

I hope it's ok to join this late in the game. I would love to join this thread because I LOVE the Dis and this is perfect motivation for me. I've gained about 20 lbs since the birth of my twins 9 months ago and I NEED to lose. We are going to WDW in October, so I have a little over 6 months and I'd love to loose at least 20-25 by then. Thanks!!

Welcome!!!!:goodvibes

Last night I was a very good Peep I rode my stationary bike for 5.43 miles. :yay: I'm hoping to do at least 5 miles a day.

I forgot to do the stairs before lunch, but I did them a few minute ago. I did 7 rounds instead of 4 though, to make up for forgetting.

Kat, I read about your sneaker problems and I feel your pain. Nothing worse than trying to do the right thing and having everything go wrong. If you do eventually make it to the gym, you will have an even greater sense of accomplishment, since you made it despite the problems. Let me know how it goes.............................P

I DID make it!! I decided to take a break from work at 4PM and did my weight circuit (triceps, biceps, shoulder, chest, back, legs, hip abduction/hip adduction, ab twist machine thingy) and 30 min on the elliptical (2.7 miles, 300 cals).

I will be here late but I don't care, I made it. Thanks for being my inspiration today!! :goodvibes

Who is it we send our starting weights to for the Cinco De Mayo challenge again? I'm old and I can't remember. Well, either that, or I'm in weight denial- either way.... neither looks very good does it????!!!!????? LOL!:rotfl2:

Thanks a bunch!

Elizabeth- we're just setting goals of how much weight we want to lose by May 5th. It's actually a friendly competition with another team on WISH. I said I'd lose 5 lbs. by then- you can pick what you want to lose and let us know. You're supposed to report your weight loss or gain every Friday and it is recorded by the official weight recorder for our group (I'm a newbie for this too- and that's why I can't remember who it is), then everything is averaged together and they come up with a magical number to tell us how great we all did. Of course, this takes a mathematical GENIUS to do this.... something I will never qualify to do! I can sing, eat, sew, eat, quilt, eat, surf the net, eat and sleep and eat...... but I cannot do math!

i just wanted to clarify for the newbies what the 2 competitions are right now (i know it's hard to remember all this stuff!)

one is a mini challenge for cinco de mayo. aaron (WIdisneyfan) keeps a spreadsheet and updates it every week. you set a goal for yourself to lose so many pounds by may 5th. he records the progress every week after our friday weigh-ins (which, by the way, is where you post how much you've gained or lost since the previous friday and utahmama keeps a tally of everyone's loss) and posts it in a nifty little chart. i'm sure once the cinco de mayo challenge is over, there will be a new mini challenge for the next holiday.

the second challenge is the peeps vs. body boarders challenge. the body boarders is another weight-loss thread on the WISH forums. i think that challenge was only for march, though. anyway, dizneydawn from the body boarders was keeping up with all the numbers for that challenge.

both "challenges" are completely optional! ;)

Thanks punkin! Looks like I had a combo of the 2! LOL! NOT unusual for me- as you will all see I'm sure! LOL!!!!

Yeah you!! What do you have planned for tomorrow? I'm chaperoning my DS's field trip, so I am not sure if I will be on the treadmill in the morning or late afternoon. I'll probably be lucky to just fit that in, but I'll try to get in some more stairs (I did 20 circuits tonight after dinner)...................P

I am not sure yet. I have an NHL game to go to at 7PM, which messes up my workday some. I generally work 9:30-6:30/7 w/ my 1.5 hour gym lunch, but I have to leave work at 5 in order to get there in time to not have to park in some far-out dirt lot. With no traffic the time back and then to the game would take an hour, and at 5PM you just never know.

So, I can go in early (yeah right), or maybe work from home in order to at least cut the commute time. Either way I would like to do 45 min of some sort of cardio and 100 crunches on the ball. Gym would be the Satan-spawed arc trainer, or home would be my mini stepper/strider thingy.

Wednesday is another challenge since I have to be at a meeting about 45 min from work (1.25 hrs from home) at 2PM... I may just go straight from the gym there.

Why is life getting in the way of our workout schedules!!

Oh peeps. I need some advice. My DS6 (Nicholas) came to me right before he was going to bed and put his head on my shoulder. I was holding DD2 on my lap, she was asleep. Anyway I asked him if he were ready to go to bed and he shook his head yes and I noticed that there was something wrong. So I asked him and he said in a sad voice nothing. So I asked him again and he started crying asking to write a letter to Santa. So I asked why, he mumbled something while crying and said I don't want any birthdays anymore. I asked him why, he then cried so hard I couldn't understand and I told him to calm down and tell mommy what was wrong. I finally got out of him that he didn't want me to die. He broke my heart. I had nothing to say, no words to comfort him and I cried with him, silently of course. Then I finally told him I wasn't going to die and he then said what about then he's old. I didn't want to start the conversation that everybody dies because it was bedtime and I didn't want him having nightmares that I died, so I told him not to worry about that right now because it's very far away. Then we all went to bed (my boys camp out in our room most of the time) and he asked to sleep in our bed which he never does. So I said yes. Then I noticed he was crying again and I asked him if he was still thinking about it and he said yes. So this is what I told him, Mommy is 37, Nannie (my mom) is 57 and he's going to 7 soon. So see we have a lot of time together. He then asked how do I know that, I was stumped again and just said we all eat healthy, take our vitamins and that's how I know. He still wants to write a letter to Santa but I don't know how I'm going to send something back to him from Santa and what to say. He doesn't want birthdays anymore because he thinks getting older means dying. In a way he's right but I don't know what to say in that letter from Santa. Please someone help.

Laura

 I wouldn't have a clue what to say!

Congrats on the twins! I always thought they would be fun.

Ok ladies. We all know that diet and exercise are major components to losing weight, however, there's another step! Journaling!

Write down everything you put in your mouth. There are even some websites that help you do that! I use thedailyplate.com, as I find it easiest to use, but others also like fitday (also good, but I like that I can track my weight and get a visual representation of what I've eaten for the day.) Both are free to use.

I have noticed that my calorie consumption goes WAY down when I track. It's 9:30, and I've eaten 1090 calories today. When I got home, it was more like 750, so I knew I had to eat more! Gotta feed this baby! So, I hope some of you use this tool. On my obesity website, many girls post what they ate for the day and total calories/protein/carbs/fats for the day for accountability. Just a thought!

Yup!! I use sparkpeople.com. I tried fitday and for some reason, somehow sparkpeople works better for me. You can track your exercise there as well.

It is built-in accountability. I am such a computer junkie that an online journal works better for me than paper.

:headache: i'm only missing you all by a couple of weeks!!!! we leave may 3rd. :sad2:

:( I know. I SO wish we were meeting up. We'll figure something out at some point Dawn - one way or another. :)

Very interesting thesis topic! I had to do a paper where you have to describe your future classroom to an object or place.. I did walt disney world of course! it was the most enjoyable homework assignment ever! ;)

For those going in May I will be at the Beach Club Villas from the 14th until the 21st. I know on the sat night we inted on going to jellyrolls for some drinking and singing

OK, so I noticed your avatar, and I just listened to the podcast this past weekend. Did you win the overall photo contest prize?!?

Sounds like a really fun trip!!
Quick Question:: To be a zookeeper do you have to be a vet or do you take zoo keeping classes??

My friend has a bachelors degree in animal science from the University of Illinois, and her DH has an associates degree from Southern Illinois University, I think - also in animal science, I believe. And they've been at it for over 10 years.

you're welcome! no worries.....it's hard to keep up with this thread, period! we're all very chatty and sometimes i'm sure you'll have to skip a few pages or skim - confusion tends to happen sometimes! ;)

Hey Punkin!!! Looks like you and I are gonna be in the World at the same time!! DH and I are going to be at BCV's from September 6- 13th. How fun!! Where are you staying?

Reassuring him of your unconditional love is a great place to start. I wish you all the luck in the world. I have been through this with my son when my husband's Grandmother passed away last May. My little guy was 7, now 8. He still has nights where he can't get to sleep because he thinks about it. Or we have nights where we put him to bed and then 20 minutes later we hear him crying. It's heart breaking.

The one thing I do know is that children have big hearts! The way that you and I associate death is different than how they associate it.

Keep us informed. :flower3:

I love the way everyone looks out for each other on this thread.

Just wanted to put some levity into this conversation. When my kids were little, they were fearful about our deaths, never wanted to move away from us, etc. We didn't get around to having a will made until they were 11 and 13. We designated DH's sister and her husband as having custody of the kids if we died. DS said, "Don't die, because Uncle P. is really grouchy." DD said, "Yeah, but they have a pool!":rotfl:

YES!!! I did! How crazy???!!!! I still can't get over it!!!

Okay so I just finished my thesis on movies and teachable moments for parents to utilize within the films. So hang on with me for a moment. Watching George of the jungle makes perfect sense. George grows up without parents and in the cartoons there isn't an adult figure such as a parent. He might have heard or seen something and then the cartoon could have brought it closer to home for him.

Thank you Elizabeth. Actually last night he said something about writing to Santa again and I told him that Santa can't keep him from having anymore birthdays and that I will be with him for a very long time. I was trying to think if George of the Jungle had something to do with that. Well last night we're watching Chicken Little and there's a picture of him, his dad and his mom and the father at one point in the movie (during the beginning) looks at the picture and says "you'd know what to do if you were here" and Nicholas says "where is she" I knew the answer but I told him I didn't know and then he kind of went on to say a favorite part in the movie that was coming up. He tells me he doesn't know why he was thinking about it but I guess the show might of got his little mind working. Yesterday in school was not a good day for him either, he had to bring home papers (2) and do over.

Finally got our Disney resservation pack today!! Time is flying by!! I can't wait!!

  :dance3:

I know he's not on our thread as a member but

Happy Birthday to my DS Christopher who is turning 9 today. He's the one with the new glasses for those who remember the post.

Guess What?! I'm PREGNANT! It's a miracle! ;)
