So, is it wrong that I am a 30-year old male, and Golden Girls is probably my favorite show ever? And how about the fact that I can practically recite most of the episodes when I watch them?

Not wrong at all! I'd love to find anyone, male or female, that does NOT roll their eyes when I flip to the Golden Girls!

i think that's a great quality to have!!!!! my DH always complains when i'm watching golden girls, but then he never turns the channel and always ends up laughing out loud (same with "steel magnolias", my all-time favorite movie). why can't he just admit that mature, sassy women are funny!?!!????

Ok, we are kindred spirits I think. Steel Magnolias is another of my favorite movies! I have a little obsession with the south I think but still it is a favorite of mine. Except in college, I used to watch it extra often when I was sad or having a bad day. Once, something happened (probably some boy drama) and my roommate left and said, "Shannon, no Steel Magnolias while I'm gone ok?" :lmao:

:dance3: :woohoo: :cool1:  Happy Birthday Aries! :cool1: :woohoo: :dance3:

Oh yeah, that's right. Weigh in day. Well, for the 2nd week in a row, I am able to record a 2.5 pound loss, for a grand total of 18 pounds lost since the start of the year. And 40 pounds lost in 2.5 years, over the course of 7.5 non-consecutive months.

But the really big news is that, for the first time in almost 5 years, my weight starts with the number "1"!!! :cool1: I'm trying not to get too excited about it, because I know that I've still got a long ways to go before I am at my goal. But I do feel good about the fact that I have been able to lose over 40 pounds with out drastic surgery or fad diets (unless you consider Weight Watchers a "fad diet"). I know that I have to exercise more than I do; and if I let up for even a week then I'll be on my way to 240 lbs again. So I'm certainly not going to relax now. As I said, I've got a good 45 pounds to go before I'll be happy.

However, I've learned a few things while trying to lose this weight:

- I have discovered that there is no miracle cure. I've tried pills and shakes and everything imaginable over the past decade. But the only thing that has ever worked was eating smart and exercising.
- I have realized that losing weight takes time. It has been said countless times, but it took me 30 years to gain this weight, so I'm not going to take it all off in a week. As has become my motto - "Slow and Steady Wins the Race".
- I have learned from past experiences that once you lose weight, you can't get complacent. If you ease up on the gas peddle just a bit, those lost pounds will start finding their way back to your body.
- I have discovered that I have a lot more willpower than I ever thought possible.
- I have learned what food does to me, both good and bad. So now whenever someone brings donuts or cookies or some other sweet treat into work, I just think "I can't believe people would do that to themselves" and just walk away instead of grabbing for the biggest one.
- I have learned that I don't need dessert to make a meal complete. I also don't have to get an appetizer every time I go out for dinner.
- I have rediscovered my love of cooking. It is something that I really enjoy doing, and it is also better for me. I control what goes into my food, which in turn gives me control over what goes in my mouth.
- I have discovered that my weight does not define me. I used to think that everyone saw me as a big, lovable, jolly guy. And I was honestly a little afraid that if I lost weight, that would change. So I would tell myself that I'd probably always be heavy, so my only goal was to be "not as fat". But I now know that I'll be just as lovable and jolly, even if my belly doesn't jiggle like a bowl full of jelly.
- I have learned that I really can't do it on my own. I have been married for about a year and a half. For the first year of my marriage, I tried really hard to lose weight with out my wife's or anybody else's help. And after a year of trying, I was the same weight as when I started. In January my wife decided to join Weight Watchers with me, and lo-and-behold I've lost almost 20 pounds in three months. So despite my very independent nature, there are some things that are easier when you have some help.

I'd probably have something more profound to say if I wasn't still 45 pounds overweight. So I'll hold off on making some big Rocky IV "If I can change, and you can change, then everybody can change" type of speech until I reach my goal. But the fact that I can even think about what I'm going to do "when" I reach my goal as opposed to "if" I reach my goal is profound enough for me.
:cool1: :thumbsup2 This is awesome. Very proud of you.

Lookie what one of my daycare mommys had delivered to my house yesterday!

P3222663.jpg

It's an edible bouquet! The fruit is all on skewers and the base is a head of fancy lettuce. There's chocolate covered banana pieces! First dipped in dark chocolate, then in white chocolate! Oh MY!!!!

The strawberries are delish! How'd they find such ripe fruit????

It's nice to feel appreciated from the daycare mamas! Not that it happens very often, if ever!

This is Norah my 2 year old who had just woke up. And that's Clifford on the deck, one of my golden retrievers.....cute, huh?

WOW!! Is all I can say. That is pretty sool--did she do that herself or did she get somehwere? I wish I had that talent.

I did have a parent write me a note of apology. It is the parent of the kid that cannot be stressed--well she kind of snipped at me on Monday and I got an apology yesterday. I have been teaching for 9 years and have never had that happen.

OT----has anyone here done a Carnival cruise? DH had our first real chance to talk last night since we went to Disney. The other couple that we took the trip with (we also go to the beach together during the summer) want to take a cruise. We were discussing the Disney, but they do not want to travel that far for the cruise and flying from where we live is out of the question. We never get any discounts on flights. Anyway--we are looking into carnival and just curious to see of any other reports of it. I will have to leave Joshua and the baby behind, but I think that is doable since the port is only 2 hours from our house--would leave Sat. afternoon and be back on Wed--late morning. DH did chime in and say--would you leave the two behind for us to go on the Wonder? I quiclky said no--because to get to the port we would have to leave a day early to get there and it would take a full day to get back--leaving the kids early on Saturday morning and not getting back until late Thurs. night.

He then went on to say--since we basically have 2 different families b/c of ages we need to consider leaving the younger 2 behind so we can do the Grand Canyon, New York, and Washington before the older two do not like us anymore or aren't interested in those trips anymore. The younger two would not get anything out of those trips. We would then take them when they are older. Our family trips are now changing drastically since we are adding number 4. Anyone else have this problem? I am like we are a family and we need to do these together--we may have to take things slower, but I think that we can do these trips even with the smaller two! We shall see. Thanks for letting me rant.

Loss of 2 - I have beena bit busy new student and am trying to shop and pack and learned my Mom and Dad are coming and staying for 2 weeks next week! I will burn many caloires I am certain cleaning!!!!

Sorry I will read back but I did see a couple of things I wnated to comment on:

WI DIsney fan , way to go bro!!!! I think my favorite line that poppped out at me was learning you have more will power than you thought! I loved that and thank you it is a great knowledge!!!

UM - OMG love the basket!!! All the kids I drive just give me sticky stuff they are fiunished eatting!!!!

Have a great day all love yas!!!!

SSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I am going to pack, BTW almost blew it last night DS was in the dumps and I wnated to scream hey your going to Disney buck up littyle camper!!!! I instead kept my mouth shut and said well I think something good is headed your way!!!!

OK HAPPY FIRDAY!!!! Yes I did do that on purpose!

Lynda - dont you think that by being sucha wonderful friend you will be able to capture these photos in a totally different "light" you know what makes her ticka ndyou will be able to sneak and get those cherished photos that arent the posed ones but the ones that just happen...you will be much more an integral part of her lifetime of memories by preserving her special day for her...you have a talent, enjoy it!

I do! That is one of the reasons I am so glad she asked me to do the photos. I know her, and I will be able to get expressions out of her that a stranger never would. And I will not be afraid to take some really sneaky and silly ones. I can't tell you how many SILLY or candid shots I took at my SIL's wedding! It's just so easy to get those when you know the bride. And I do feel better about it than I did a couple of days ago. Finding out for sure that I would be doing it on one of my most emotional days of the month just wasn't a good thing. I still wish there weren't things I would miss out on at the wedding, but I am really excited about it, and I am sure that will only intensify over the next few months. Now, I just have to prepare!

I forsee this thread making me late for work  Anyway, I LOVED the GG!! I also watched it along with Empty Nest...funny, b/c the other day I was looking on Dish (AKA reason I have gained weight) to find re-runs of EN with no luck. I think that guy died a few years back.

I also used to watch GG & EN on Saturday nights! I was usually at Dad's house, and we would watch together. I hardly ever see those shows now, but when I do, I think of him. :goodvibes

Did you get a better deal by ordering online? Mimi is gonna want some new lens soon. Where are you staying in Sept? You are gonna be marvelous at the wedding! ;)

I did! Not to mention the fact that there are few camera stores around here to find any decent lenses at. But, I learned about a website here on the DIS, over on the photography boards. It is B & H Photo. They have some of the best prices out there, are well known in the photography "community", and have excellent customer service. I have bought a lot from them. There's also adorama. I think I did get some accessories from there because they were cheaper than B & H, but I don't think they usually are on lenses. Worth checking though. I still need to send Mimi that list of photography books! I will try to do that this weekend!

We are staying at POFQ in September. That trip is our redo - we are taking FIL and SMIL. (You may remember from my TR that they were supposed to come with us last November and had to cancel.)

P.S. Wish me luck, we're new car hunting this weekend and I hope we find one we like! My head is spinning from researching cars, finding them on the lots, and trying to work with the dealers! UGH! We're down to 3 choices, the Honda Fit, Pontiac Vibe, and Nissan Versa. At this point, I think the Versa might win...

Oooh! My DH works at a dealership that carries Nissan, and I love them! I have the Quest myself (AKA the "Disney Bus"), and I haven't seen the Versa up close & personal, but I generally like every Nissan DH brings home as a demo.

I can't tell you how much I agree with everything you just said. I learned a lot of this stuff the previous times I've lost weight too, but this time I am doing a couple of things differently (writing stuff down mainly), and I just KNOW I will get to where I want to be this time, and that I will maintain it. And I think that writing stuff down has helped me with that feeling because I feel like, if I have problems and stop losing at some point, I can show my Dr EXACTLY what I have been doing, and it will make it easier to find out why, so I can correct it and move on. I guess because I have done this before, and I know I am doing the right thing now, and I can see it happening on the scale (slowly, but surely), I am just confident about it more than I was in the past. One problem I do have is that I am impatient. I just have to tell myself how wonderful it is that this is finally happening and that getting there slowly is much better than not getting there at all! :)

Ok, we are kindred spirits I think. Steel Magnolias is another of my favorite movies! I have a little obsession with the south I think but still it is a favorite of mine. i could probably quote the entire movie without any help! LOVE it!!!! i'm a southern girl and i can just relate so much to the characters. my favorite quote from the whole movie is, "ms. truvy, i swear to you that my personal tragedy will not interfere with my ability to do good hair!" makes me want to watch it right now!!!!! :)

Down 2!!! Don't really know how that happened except that I have been on Spring Break and haven't been at preschool snacking. :rolleyes1

I didn't report in last Friday because I was up, and was embarrassed. Well, I lost that plus a half a pound. Maybe this will jump start me into taking this seriously. :confused3

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ARIES!!! Oh, and I am still undecided about next Jan. The price may be too much for me right now. I just wish I could price it out.

Amy - I feel like I am in that rut right beside you. We need to get us a map and get back onboard. I am willing, are you? sure you are! :cheer2:

EeyoreSandy - :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: You have got a lot on you right now, and from your blog, I think you are going to make the most awesome MIL for your future DIL.

Stacey - I will get you a pic of the baskets as soon as they get one finished. Right now they just have braided fabric handles with cute fabric ears, and pipe cleaner whiskers. The kids glue on the eyes, nose, mouth, and tail. If I forget to send it to you, please don't hesitate to remind me. We have got a lot to do before the end of the year.

UM - This is my first post since my response to your TR. Go take a lookie.

Good Luck everyone, and remember "We're all in this together....:rolleyes1 "

Happy Birthday Aries!!:cheer2:

Ok, I am a big loser this week :goodvibes In addition the the bogus 4 pounds I lost by getting a new scale last weekend :lmao: I lost.........
4.2 this week! :woohoo: (so really 8.2 but 4 of those were the result of a new scale so I dont think those count, darn it) So I am thrilled with that of course. I was really good most of the week and made sure to get my water in. That is a big key for me.

Congrats to all our peeps today! And welcome to ONEderland WI_DisneyFan!! I will hopefully see you there in a few weeks myself. I cant remember the last time my weight started with a one, but I am so close I can almost taste it!

Sandy - Yes, I am taking photos for one of my best friends when she gets married in July, and I did my SIL's weddidng last April also. If you want to see the results of SIL's wedding, you can click on that snazzy new link in my siggy, then look under weddings for Jess & Pat. That's the first (and only right now) wedding I've ever done, and keep in mind I haven't really deleted out the bad ones or worked a lot on the good ones. I want to work on that this summer because I would love to give SIL some framed photos for her birthday and Christmas this year. It seems like there was something else I wanted to respond to you on, but I can't remember it now.

I'm going on my first cruise in 3 weeks! We (Mom and I) are doing Celebrity. But in the planning stages, DB and his in laws gave us a lot of advice on the different cruise lines. Basically he said to steer clear of Carnival because it's a little too Girls Gone Wild for us :scared1: . I think he basically means that its a lot of adults partying and having a good time which is fine some of the time but I get a little tired of nothing but drunkeness. Not that you wouldn't have fun, but he didn't recommend it to my mom and I for our first cruise. They do have good deals though.

I sort of agree on the family vacations. DB took their 6 and 4 yr old on a cruise and they loved it. There are children's areas where you can leave them for a few hours and be alone. Not sure what the age limit is for your little one though. But DSIL's DS also just went on a cruise with her 18 month old and admitted it was hard because she is such an active kid. Plus all she wanted was her mommy even though there were 5 other adults to keep her occupied. But basically I'm saying not to completely rule out taking them with you if a family vacation is what you have in mind. (Just re-read your post) I think that you could still do any vacation with all your kids. I mean, why do parents take a 6 month old to Disney? They obviously won't remember it but the parents will! And that is making memories.

I keep forgetting my weigh in info! I lost 1 lb. this week. Of course I wish it was more, but I will take the 1! :) AF is still here, so I'm hoping to see a bigger number next week! That 1 lb. brings me down to 228.2, for a total loss of 21.8 lbs!

I still need to post yesterday's totals too! But I will do that this afternoon. Be back later folks. :)

Hope you find the right one Michelle good luck and enjoy those test drives :thumbsup2

That basket is amazing and healthy too and Norah looks such a cutie!

Gotta tell a quick "sass story" about my late grandma (who was like a 2nd mother to me growing up). She was probably about 80 years old when this happened. She was out for her daily drive, and was going 40 in a 35 MPH zone. Well, for what ever reason a cop decided to pull her over and hassle her. He said "I can't give you a ticket for going 5 over, but I will write you a warning. You don't have to pay anything, and you can go home and rip it up if you would like." And you know what she did? As soon as the cop handed her this warning, she ripped it up right in front of him. But she didn't stop there. She was very anti-seatbelt. And even though the cop didn't mention anything, she thought she would defend herself anyway. So she told the cop "I know you are going to give me a ticket for not wearing my seat belt, but I'm not going to strap myself into this death machine." I think the cop realized that giving her a ticket wouldn't change anything, so he just turned around and left.
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Not wrong at all! I'd love to find anyone, male or female, that does NOT roll their eyes when I flip to the Golden Girls!
Oh I loved the Golden Girls (it's hardly shown over here anymore) I can remember going to MGM I think it was the first year it opened and being excited seeing their house! Also many years ago I tried to buy the soundtrack for my DSis Birthday as the words are so lovely but I couldn't get it anywhere :confused3

Talking of DSis she was due 15 days ago with baby number 1, they started inducing her on wednesday evening (it's now Friday evening here) and still no sign, BIL phoned last night to say shes having a rough time but her and baby are fine so I suppose that's all that matters and hopefully very soon I'll be an auntie again :cool1: Trouble is every time the phone goes I pounce on it snarling at the kids, not that I have to find out first or anything :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

Up 1 lb! Yuck...I really need to mentally figure out what is going on with me. (Other than the fact it is harder to lose at 44 than it was at 24!)

I am definitely in a slump and am not sure how to get out of it. I'm not exercising...I'm eating OK, but not great...I really don't like myself right now...and I am looking ahead to Easter with just one DD home with her husband & DS. (The one's we spend every Sunday with!) DS will be on tour with his college choir and DD will be in Conn with her DF and his family. I am a little depressed :sad1: on how much life has changed over the past year and it will only change more with each passing year. :sad2: Boy, getting older really stinks!!! :scared1:
(OK...end of pity party..need to move on.)

Oh boy...it's this sponge-like, sugary stuff inside with milk chocolate around it. Real nice description eh? Try this lovely website..I just noticed that it was invented in Buffalo, just 60 miles from me! www.spongecandy.com

But do you really think I should be discussing chocolate on a weight loss thread?? I might get banned already!! lol

Those sound great except for the molases flavor. Do they come in any other flavor?

Sponge candy is the best!!! I had never heard of it when I lived in NJ, but once in Buffalo, it is the best! Orange is my favorite flavor!!! YUM!!!!

I forsee this thread making me late for work

Eventer98...Getting addicted to this thread has a habit of making you late ALL THE TIME!!! :rolleyes1

Hi my name is Shannon and I am a procrastinator. :rolleyes1

I've been "writing" my lesson plans since 10:00 this morning. I keep distracting myself.

One of the things I'm distracting myself with? Planning another trip to WDW! My good friend and former college program roommate has finally gave the official, I'm coming to Florida! So excited because I have not seen her in 2 years and also because I get another trip to WDW! She will be coming in May, a week before Memorial Day. Great early bday present for me! We don't want to spend too much on accommodations but really want to stay onsite. She is on a budget more so than me but we definitely are doing a value. No discounts are available, but I did find a good deal for All Star Sports so I'm hoping she'll go for that and let me know soon. I booked Pop this morning just in case.

Could I ask a question about Magical Express? She is flying in so needs to get from the airport to the resort. I am driving but not be in town in time to pick her up. So can she take magical express both ways even though I'm not using it? What if the ressie is in my name but she is on it? Just curious.

Thanks Peeps! Ok, no more procrastinating. Lesson plans will be done in the next 20 minutes.

The week before Memorial Day, you say? DH and I arrive on 5/18 (our 5th wedding anniversary) and we leave on 5/26! Might we meet a fellow Peep?
