Hey Peeps...Remember me?

I took a little hiatus from this thread. Actually all of the DIS right after I got back from my weekend at WDW in mid-December. I've been busy, stressed, and just didn't want any disney reminders since I do not have a trip planned and I'm not even thinking about planning a trip to disney anytime soon. I sort of had the disney blues. My cousing is still living with my mom and I and it's really getting old. She is making no effort to get things together, and even though my mom says she will be tough, she isn't. Which I guess I understand. It's easier said than done. But still. I start my last semester and last internship next week and I'm very nervous about it. And on the 12th of this month, I'm taking my certification exam which I feel very unprepared for. I should have studied a lot more and now I'm worried I will nto pass. I can take it again in March but I really want to pass it on the first try. I'm starting my new eating regime on Monday (back to WW...well following the program, but not attending meetings or anything) and I just printed out the couch to 5k running plan. My goal is to get up early every morning before work and exercise. It will suck, especially in the beginning, but I know it will be worth it. Oh and I have a new favorite tv show - Jon and Kate plus 8. It's on TLC and then re-aired on Discovery Health. There was a marathon the other day and I sat for 4 hours watching it! I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I'm ready to re-new my Peep membership and make 2008 my year!

So since I'm not going to even bother reading all the pages I've missed, could someone give me a little summary of what has been going on here?

It's great to be back!

Glad to "see" you back. Good luck with the exam.

I've done the C25K (couch to 5k abbreviation) and it is great. It is a great way to work your way into it. This come from a total NON runner. I was doing great until I had a knee injury (not running related - stupid related;) ) in Oct. It has kind of sidelined my training. Yes, dd and I leave next Wed. to go run a 5K in AK next Friday. We are SO praying that we don't get swept. We are kind of hoping for an adrenaline factor. :yay: You will feel great if you run before work. That is what I did, and I felt so energized for the rest of the day. Keep us posted on how your progress goes. Here is a  for your mom.

Hi everyone!:grouphug: Good to see all you "oldies" and nice to meet all of you who joined while I was missing in action.:goodvibes

Oh I almost forgot the goals.
what is your short/long term goal? short term-To step away from the junk and stay in my points range.long term-to lose this 26 lbs and KEEP IT OFF.Also to get my entire family healthier..
what is one thing you could do today to make that goal happen? not go in the kitchen and eat..everything.:rolleyes1
what is one habit that is holding you back from reaching your goal? My sweets habit..and Taco Bell habit...

Glad to see you back too! I've got to go weigh in on Monday. :scared1: I never weighed in December. :headache: We have Monday meetings and it didn't occur to me, until it was too late, that they would cancel the meetings on Christmas eve and NYE.

Oh, well, I'm gonna face the music on Monday, and then try to be good at Disney, or at least not be TOO bad. Then I'm back on the wagon, front and center come the 14th.

I will be remembering you and your family in my prayers. I know that this is hard time for everyone.

Sorry that your DS is sick. Haved you tried vicks vapor rub on the sole of his feet covered with a sock ---I do not know why but I know this helps stop bad coughing while you sleep. Hope he recovers soon.

It has been a rough morning here. It was below freezing last night and I know that it is colder elswhere. Over the summer we had a tanless water system put in so we would always have hot water and guess what NO HOT WATER!!!! It froze on outside wall. Our builder was here most of the morning trying to get it going. WE had a hair dryer going and now we left a light bulb in the unit to see of that will help. If it does not get much warmer we may be without hot water :scared1: I refuse to take a cold shower. Oh yeah, the maual says these units hould not freeze up---:headache:

I have 90 min before I have to leave for a meeting :sad2: hopefully something will happen soon.
Thanks for the good wishes Pigget and everyone else as well.

I am a firm believer in Vicks Vaporub. I think I am their biggest fan! But have to admit i've never tried it on feet before!:rotfl2: But now I will!

Good luck with the hot water!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Very cold here today too. It was below zero when I woke up. Now it's about 9 degrees I think. Our downstairs is not insulated well, so had to bring in some space heaters for getting ready for school this a.m.

Glad to "see" you back. Good luck with the exam.

Good luck at weigh in. How long does it take to do the coach potato to 5K program? I'd love to do it, but it scares me!

Pixie dont feel short. I am really short- try 5 feet and ZERO inches. My son is 6'2, my dd1 is 5'2 and dd2 who is eleven is at my eyebrows. Once my dd1 called me a shrimp- and that precious angel dd2 told me- its ok mama- shrimp are GOOD!! So if you want you can be one of those big shrimp and I'll just be a popcorn shrimp- both are GOOD!

i'm 5'3". my dad is 6'2", my sister is 5'10" and my brother is 6'5". go figure!

cute about the shrimp!

I can't understand how we were made from a man. We had to be the new and improved model. Honestly.

adam was just practice. ;) (no offense, aaron! )

Weather - All of you in double digits, consider yourselves lucky! It is currently Zero degrees, with a wind chill of -7. But I like cold weather, so it doesn't bother me. Of course, they are saying we could reach 50 degrees by early next week. Gotta love Wisconsin winters.

BRRRRRRRR!!!!!! i wouldn't be able to handle it. i HATE cold weather. hate it. it's 17 here today and i'm about to DIE! i'm sure it'll be 70 next week. and everyone will be sick again.

What are you peeps eating today ?????

breakfast - coffee & fiber one bar
snack - 100-calorie sun chips
lunch - BLT on wheat bread and tomato soup

i'm not sure yet what my afternoon and evening snacks will be. i know i'll probably be having a lean cuisine pizza tonight for dinner though. i love their margherita pizza!

what is your short/long term goal?
what is one thing you could do today to make that goal happen?
what is one habit that is holding you back from reaching your goal?

short term goal - to get to 130 pounds by valentine's day
long term goal - to retire in orlando and get annual passes to WDW. oh, you mean, healthwise??? :lmao: to be able to put on a swimsuit and not have a care in the world.
one thing i can do today - not eat chips and salsa (my weakness)!
one habit - um.......chips and salsa!

Good luck at weigh in. How long does it take to do the coach potato to 5K program? I'd love to do it, but it scares me!

Thanks, but I am just going to use that weigh in as a new starting point. It will still be less than it was when I joined back in August. I just think it will be higher than Nov. I am a lifetime member, so I only "have" to weigh in once a month.

The C25K takes 9 weeks to get to the point that you run exclusively. It is a 3 day a week program.

1st week : Walk 5 min. then alternate running 60 sec./walking 90 sec. do this for 20 min. total

2nd week: Walk 5 min., alternate running 90 sec/2 min. walking. do this for 20 min. total

Then it moves up from there.

Here is the website: www.coolrunning.com

Give it a try! If I can do it ANYONE can! I promise!

adam was just practice. ;) (no offense, aaron! )
The way I see it, Adam was created first so he'd have a chance to say something...

Reminds me of a joke my barber told me:

One day, after a near eternity in the Garden of Eden, Adam calls out to God, "Lord, I have a problem."

"What's the problem, Adam?" God replies.

"Lord, I know you created me and have provided for me and surrounded me with this beautiful garden and all of these wonderful animals, but I'm just not happy."

"Why is that, Adam?" comes the reply from the heavens.

"Lord, I know you created this place for me, with all this lovely food and all of the beautiful animals, but I am lonely."

"Well Adam, in that case I have the perfect solution. I shall create a 'woman' for you."

"What's a 'woman', Lord?"

"This 'woman' will be the most intelligent, sensitive, caring, and beautiful creature I have ever created. She will be so intelligent that she can figure out what you want before you want it. She will be so sensitive and caring that she will know your every mood and how to make you happy. Her beauty will rival that of the heavens and earth. She will unquestioningly care for your every need and desire. She will be the perfect companion for you," replies the heavenly voice.

"Sounds great."

"She will be; but this is going to cost you, Adam."

"How much will this 'woman' cost me Lord?" Adam replies.

"She'll cost you your right arm, your right leg, an eye, and an ear."

Adam ponders this for some time, with a look of deep thought and concern on his face. Finally Adam says to God, "What can I get for a rib?"

WOW! i decided to check up to see how everyone is doing..and there are so many added pages i cant keep up :goodvibes

I hope everyone is doing well so far this new year!

I finished my first official week of weight watchers yesterday..but im waiting to tomorrow morning to weigh myself. I feel a million times better eating healthy than stuffing my face with xmas cookies and cakes. I never did weight watchers before but i like how i can eat whatever i want and not feel guilty about it. For example I went to a mexican restaurant on nye..I had a chicken quesadilla and didnt feel miserable about it. I am an all or nothing dieter and it usually winds up sabotaging me in the end. I'm hoping weight watchers will change my mind set when it comes to food.

I did not go to the gym this week instead i worked out at home I did a hip hop abs workout this morning it was alot of fun!

probably going to go to the gym starting on monday

Aaron, this by far was the funniest! I rolled. Thanks.

You know I am just having fun here.

I never mean to offend anyone. If I do or have, I sincerely apologize.

Trust me, DH knows what I type. He either reads it or I tell him.

I am really frustrated. Our hot water came back on around 12:30. Thankfully there are no leaks that we are aware of. The builder (who lives up the street) who is my friends dad--called. He went to her house to check on her tankless--she lives right behind me--hers was fine. The hot water side was hot and everything was fine. Great for them--really. Anyway he tells me to make sure that the lightbulb in the unit is on--how the heat from the lightbulb really makes a difference I do no know. Then he says--do you have any brick left from the add on this summer. I think so why? We might have to take part of the wall out to see why it is freezing :confused3 I pray not--hopefully in the morning it will not be frozen, but I really do not like the idea of having to drip water in the house or having that lightbulb on everytime it gets below freezing--if we would have known all the trouble this is we would never have gone to a tankless water system. I love having hot water all the time, but between this and the original extra cost it has been a pain.

DH is gone until Saturday so it is just the kids and me--trying to get caught up on laundry and get the house inorder before school on Monday. I have not been doing well---I think I am just going to wait until Monday to kick start everything. Started making a list of all the things I need to purchase and it is getting long.

Hope all is well with everyone.

If it's frozen I just boil mine. Until it's almost soft. You can check by poking with a fork. Drain when done and put back in pot. Sprinkle with morton's lite salt and smart balance spread or other healthy alternative to butter or you can use a tiny bit of olive oil. Toss and enjoy.

It it's fresh, I just boil it until almost soft and sprinkle with ML salt.

Microwaves take the good stuff out of your food.

I boiled it and I put I can't believe it's not butter spray on it with a little salt. It was yummy.

Hey Peeps...Remember me?

It's great to be back!

I remember you, welcome back. My name is Laura.

What I am eating today:

Had an orange for breakfast.
Am about to have a pear for my snack.
Lunch will be a lean cuisine pannini
Dinner is either going to be an apple and a pear or a lowcal salad at cheesecake factory

Don't you love those lean cuisine pannini's, I do

aldisneygrl I do WW too. I weigh in on Tuesdays so I had literary three weeks to eat. Not good, going back on Tuesday but yesterday I started counting my points again and today did really well (pat on my back).

WOW! i decided to check up to see how everyone is doing..and there are so many added pages i cant keep up :goodvibes

That's why I love WW, for me, I can eat anything as long as I track it.

aldisneygrl and Sandy I see you run and both of you are going to the WDW marathon. That is going to be one of my goals. Of course I will lose my weight first then start training for that. I bookmarked that site for the coach potato to 5k for reference for later. I'm just concetrating on losing weight first. Sandy I'm going to read your pre TR right now.

Laura :flower3:

Just to set the record straight (cause I don't want to take extra credit), Sandy is running the Half Marathon, I am just running the 5K. Mine is 3.1 miles long, hers is 13.something long. So her accomplishment will WAY out Trump mine. ;) I also have my 9 yo daughter running with me. We are doing a mommy/daughter trip in honor of my 40th, which will be later this year.

If you have any questions about the C25K, let me know.

running is running and i commend BOTH you and sandy for it!!!!! you guys rock! :thumbsup2

well, tomorrow is the first peep weigh-in of the year. i'm wishing you all pretty numbers!!!! :goodvibes

Looks like everyone is off and "running" into the new year! I said yesterday I was going to start walking with a co-worker, but it was so cold here today. BUT one of my other co-workers said we could walk inside - so we did! You should have seen the five of us, single file, walking down a very skinny (maybe four feet across) hallway. One of the girls sets a very quick pace which I can't set but can follow. I got my heart rate up and felt very successful - silly too! We laughed a lot and had fun together.

what is your short/long term goal?
what is one thing you could do today to make that goal happen?
what is one habit that is holding you back from reaching your goal?

Happy Thursday Everybody!!!:thumbsup2
short term - one day at a time - eat better/ exercise
long-term - lots of pounds to lose
being lazy - I find lots of excuses to just "sit there"

**peeks in**
It's great to be back!

Glad to have you back - wondered what you were up to!
I love Jon and Kate and kids too!

OT - On the news the week before Christmas you might have seen a German Shepherd that was being retired from the army to the family of his trainer who was killed in Iraq. His trainer was the nephew of one of my co-workers and we got to meet the dog, Lex, today. He is such a beautiful dog with a huge heart!

Microwaves take the good stuff out of your food.

This quote is from the Center for Disease Control, a pretty reliable source for health info:

Choose bunches that are dark green. Good color indicates high nutrient value.

Fresh vs. Frozen

Packaged frozen broccoli differs from fresh in its nutrient content. The flower buds or florets are richer in beta-carotene than the stalks. Manufactures typically cut off most of the stalk before packaging it, so frozen broccoli may contain 35% more beta-carotene by weight than fresh broccoli. The downside is that frozen broccoli has twice as much sodium as fresh (up to 68 mg per 10 oz. package), about half the calcium, and smaller amounts of iron, thiamine, riboflavin, and vitamin C.

Preparation and Cooking

The best way to cook broccoli is to steam, cook in the microwave or stir-fry with a little broth or water. These methods are better than boiling. Some of the vitamin and mineral content are lost from the vegetable and end up in the cooking water when they are boiled. Cooked broccoli should be tender enough so that it can be pierced with a sharp knife, and still remain crisp and bright green in color.

I'm having trouble staying with 1200 calories, but I'm still eating less than the 12 X goal weight for this week. Here's what I've eaten today:

1/2 c. Go Lean Crunch & 1/2 c. special K w/1/2 c. 1% milk 220 cals.
Decaf w/ ff sf cocoa 50 cals.

ff sf pineapple orange yogurt 120 cals.

3 oz. turkey breast w/ 2 tbsp. cranberry sauce 140 cals.
1 lg. orange 100 cals.
4 Hershey kisses 100 cals.

1 choc. chip cookie (they're gone, thank goodness) 50 cals.

white cheddar soy chips 110 cals.
Lean Cuisine french bread pizza 310 cals.
salad w/ Bleu cheese vinaigrette 60 cals.
pear 100 cals.

Costco samples (they got me, UM) 100 cals.(estimate-a bite of turkey breakfast sausage, 2 bites chicken taquito, 2 slurps vegan minestrone, bite of dried berries)

I'm asking for pixie dust for my kids for tomorrow. Nothing really dramatic. They are both getting their wisdom teeth out. DH and I both will be caring for them, and he's a really good caregiver. I'm just praying the extractions are uneventful.

Sending some pixie dust their way. Poor kids!!!!

I think it is going to be a long night here. Rebekah did not take a nap today except for a quick 20 min. cat nap. Well I had to run an errand at 5:30 and she fell asleep. I came home and cooked supper and then sat down with Joshua and I just knew she would wake up soon. Put him to bed at 8 and then I fell asleep on the couch. I woke at 11 and she woke then as well. I nursed her and she is all smiles now. I hope she goes back down soon

Good luck getting baby girl to sleep. Those late naps are a killer.

FIRST THINGS FIRST! WISHING A WONDERFUL DAY TO ONE OF MY FAVORITE PEEPS WHOM I'M HAPPY TO SAY IS NOW MY REAL-LIFE FRIEND, TOO...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LYNDA!
