has anyone here ever tried an at-home doggie diet for their doggies? as in you feed them whatever you think is right instead of just dog food? i seriously don't think the appetite suppressant is working for eli. he's been on it since september and has lost NOTHING. i found a dog calorie calculator online and figured out he needs 630-730 calories per day to maintain a weight of 35 pounds (right now he weighs 42 - figured 35 could be our first goal!). easy enough, right? nope! i didn't think about it but dog foods have all sort of vitamins and nutrients and to be able to incorporate that into a diet myself is a bit overwhelming. anyone ever done this before?

monica - the kitchen looks great! :thumbsup2

wendy - apricots, huh? i'm going to the store tomorrow to get stuff to bake cookies with (WHY?????? i know! but it's christmas and DH has already asked about my famous chocolate cherry chunkies a few times) so i may have to pick some of those apricots up for weigh-in on friday! :rotfl2:

Dawn: My mom makes her own dog food.

She cooks rice and mixed vegetables and adds what ever left over meat she has on hand. Dices it all up and stores in the fridge and heats up the portion she needs to serve the dog at his feeding time.

Why she does this, is because the dog is spoiled rotten and won't eat anything else.

As far as the vitamins go, I highly doubt she's even aware of what he is getting or lacking.

GOOD MORNING! :sunny;

I'm behindish again. I'll catch up over Christmas when nobody is around. Geez....they'll probably shut the DIS down for updates again over Christmas like they did last year.

Heather....I start to cry every time I think of Christi leaving those two sweet babies. I just have to trust that God has a plan.

Danielle....Mrs. Claus is just too cute! I love to see older people who really love life. Such an inspiration. I'll be praying for your brother.

Kim....Your goals look just like mine from this time last year! My calories were 1440, I drank my water, and walked 2 mi. about 4 times per week. It worked for me!

EVERYBODY.....:wave2:

HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Hi, Marita here again.
regular lurker, rare poster....... Hi Lexi, Uma, Spongie, Sandy, DisneyObsession, Mony, Celery, Lynda, and anyone else I forgot from other boards. (sorry).

Anyway, the point of this post is this:

If the Dis goes down over the Holidays, go to Delswife.net. Some of the best reports and stories you will ever read.

Happy Holidays!!!!!!

Monica - Your kitchen is beautiful!! I can't believe they did all that in a little over a month. I am sure it seems like YEARS to you. :rotfl2: It took me a while to realize that they knocked down that wall and that those windows in the other room (in the before pic) are the same windows behind your new table. :headache: What a wonderful Christmas dinner you will have in that new kitchen.

Dawn - I got worried when you posted that story about the man dying on EE. My boss, her DH and their 3 girls went to DW today. He is about that old, and I was beginning to worry. :sad2: Luckily, I found a website that released the man's name, and it wasn't my bosses DH. That is so sad for them though.

Marita
- Nice to "see" you on this thread. I am a lurker, seldom poster on the "other" thread. :rolleyes1

Hi Peeps! Just checkin' in.

Danielle - Uh, yeah - I am SO excited about Disneyland in January! :woohoo:

And I can't wait to know about next December either. I really miss WDW this time of year.

Monica - The kitchen looks GREAT!

for some odd and very annoying reason the travel channel isn't playing it right now even though my directv menu says it's supposed to be!!!!! :headache: how rude.

GOOOOD MORNING! :sunny:

Last school day of 2007! :cheer2:

Welcome.

Last school day of 2007! :cheer2:

EVERYBODY HAVE A GOOD ONE!

I am happy that I won't have to wake up at 5:30 for the next 2 weeks, but having the boys here while I am working is sometimes a bit much.

I need to start taking my vacations when the kids have em.

But I won't be taking time off any time soon. Saving it for the summer and disney.

Nothing says Merry Christmas like an emergency root canal. I woke up with an achy tooth yesterday and by 10 last night it was beyond bearable. I had to call my OB to call in a pain killer I could safely take and didnt get to bed until it kicked in around 3am. Off to the Dentist today but I know that is what this will be. I have a filling there that had a chip out of it I was hoping to wait until I had the baby to fix. Guess not. I am scared. I need nitrous to get my teeth cleaned. how am I gonna manage a root canal without gas?!:sad2:

Happy Belated B-day TIA! Hope you got to celebrate doing something fun!!

pictures some of you have seen if you've been on this thread for a year.

She made the outfit herself.

Everybody watch out for those wagon wheels!
OMG, she is so cute!!

during a break in court today i was complaining at one point about being hungry and a girl that works in the district attorney's office said something about she's not hungry because she fasts on tuesdays and thursdays. i asked her why and she said because she's dieting. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? i asked her how much she'd lost on that diet and she said a little at first but none lately and she's gained some back. well, duh! i explained to her in a very nice way that starving yourself is almost as bad as overeating, that your body hangs on to everything you give it when you do give it food and it slows down your metabolism. she said she read somewhere that your body needs a break from food every now and then. i said to her, "that's like saying your car needs a break from gasoline." where do these people get this stuff???? i told her what i had learned on this board about your goal weight x 12 = calorie intake per day, water consumption, lots of fiber, etc. i hope i helped her out some with my unsolicited advice today!
I tell my sister the same thing all the time and she never lsitens. Witholding food is not only unhealthy, it just doesnt work!

In bad news, the dentist appt this morning did not go well... I have to have 3 old fillings replaced, and one new one, and one filling cracked my tooth the point that I am going to need a crown. I am having the fillings done tomorrow but saving the crown until next year's round of insurance.
I feel your pain. In addition to the one I am having issue with, I am sure there are others that will need fixed....they will have to wait until baby comes though. I need my laughing gas!

Would it be completely un-peep like to ask for you to share the recipe?? They sound so good. My two favorite flavors, chocolate and cherries!

Drive-by............................

It looks like everyone is doing well. I am sorry for those of you dealing with dental issues:scared:. Think of it this way, maybe you will be able to avoid some calories if your tooth hurts...:confused3

Last night we visited "Miracle on 34th Street". It is about a 40 minute drive from us and was so much fun. Here is a link if your interested. http://http://www.christmasstreet.com/index.htm. The lights were great and we learned from one of the residents that if you move onto the street you have to sign a covenant stating that you will decorate for Christmas.

Tonight we are visiting Santa. The 3 yo will love it but I am sure the baby will be traumatized.

 that sounds like my mother-in-law's dog. she gives her only what they eat for dinner (no other dog food or otherwise nutricious food) and she even gives her coffee in the morning! :sad2:

good luck with that! i HATE the dentist! who doesn't, though?

it's christmas so you're excused. plus your pregnant so i don't think you can be un-peep-like! it's actually white chocolate, just so you know. but i'd take white chocolate over regular any day! and i shouldn't call it my recipe because i actually ganked it from paula deen....so you know it's good! here you go.......

1 stick of butter, softened
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup chopped macadamia nuts
1/2 cup candied cherries
1 1/2 cups white chocolate chunks (sometimes i can't find these so i just use white chocolate chips)

preheat over to 375 degrees.

in a medium bowl, with electric mixer, cream butter and sugars together until light and fluffy. add eggs and vanilla and beat until just combined. set aside.

sift together flour, soda and salt. add milk to the butter mixture and then add th flour mixture. mix until just combined. batter should be stiff.

in another bowl, combine nuts, cherries and white chocolate. then add to batter, stirring only to blend. drop by heaping tablespoons onto a greased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart. back for approximately 11 to 13 minutes. cool on wire rack.

this makes about 4 dozen.

I  34th St in Hamden... my grandfather grew-up not far from there and some of my Dads cousins still live in the area. We try to go down every couple of years.:)

Dance ouch - you'll make it through - I lost a tooth when my first born was born, eating a prune (no pit!) it was awful, I was bf, so I know pain too!

Marita are you foreshadowing the Dis going down? LOVE Delswifes' reports!! Thanks for the reminder!

Lynda long time no see - have an amazing time in DL - I know I'll be thinking of you sending pixie dust and + + + plane vibes + + + ++ :wizard: and I need to spend time reading trip reports, I just cant seem to stay online long enough..

Monica Kitchen is gorgeous

Melinda Boys are pseudo home - ds#1 lives in his condo now - but asked if him and fdil could spend the night Christmas Eve :goodvibes , DS#2 is off with his gf family ski trip (cross country, he's never done this!!) so its back to the 3 of us - DD has school till Friday - tonight is uggg Band Concert, which wouldnt be bad 'cept they have to combine all the schools, orchestra, bands, etc... and no, that darn parking lot isnt that big! The bleacher seats cant hold all those people... I'm an old curmodgen now!!

:cool1: :cheer2: :woohoo: THE DEED IS DONE!! :woohoo: :cool1: :cheer2:

A long time ago - a Utahmama started a thread, then someone noticed that Disney had a 5K in Jan - and someone challenged us to do a meet - I jumped all over that - DH Challenged ME to a 1/2 marathon, if I wanted to go, I'd have to be challenged... :rolleyes1

Then dear sweet Disney decided to give FREE DINING :wizard: and peeps couldnt resist... and I sweet talked dh into that (thanks to the United plane vouchers that expired Oct 1 I think, so use those 3 vouchers, or lose 'em!)

Well, lots of challenges pop up along the way, 2 DS' in college, meniers disease keeping me from working... and it didnt look like we could buy tickets, food....

BUT DH DID IT!!! He gave his blood, worked overtime, but we have tickets!!
(yes, his previous workplace is Baxter, and they pay dh $100 a month for his blood!! So dh literally gave his blood for this trip!!)

good news - we're going to Disney.... Bad news - I am so not ready!! I'm heavier now (self medicating with food) than ever.... and I have less than 20 days!! I can post my bib number and you can check online where and what I do (as in if I get 'swept" and cant finish, or if I do finish, you can see my time!)

It really is a small world!! I had never been before and loved the area. We had a quick bite at "Cafe Hons". What a cool little place!! I convinced DH to go back this weekend so I can peruse the shops on 36th Street and check out the restaurant, "Rocket to Venus". The menu looks great and has lots of vegetarian dishes for me to chose from.

Sandy that's great!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Monica, love the new kitchen!!

Oh no dance... I definitely feel your pain. No root canal for me at 1PM today, just 4 fillings (3 removals of bad ones and replacements, one new one). So I will be droooooling my way through the rest of the afternoon.

I think dinner will be soup!

punkin, I may make those cookies for our holiday "treat" fest on Friday. I hate candied cherries so it may keep my greedy fingers out of them.

I think I am also going to bring cut veggies and fat free spinach dip that I will be the only one eating.

T-5 weeks to next Disney trip (Jan 26). I am hoping to lose at least 10 more lbs by then.

I am one battery short for my scale... may be robbing a remote somewhere.

i hate candied cherries too, but for some reason they're really good in these cookies!

I am one battery short for my scale... may be robbing a remote somewhere.

i have to keep my work case stocked with AA batteries for my microphones and backup recorder, so DH always invades my case for batteries. it's really frustrating though because usually he doesn't tell me so when i go to get one during court i'll only have like 2 left when i had a full pack last time i checked! :headache:

let us know how dentist goes. i have a cracked tooth in the VERY back of my mouth that i haven't had looked at yet. i'm sure i'll just get it pulled though. i don't really need it and no one will be able to tell if it's gone! but i have a feeling when i do take care of that i'll need some fillings re-filled, too.

sandy - CONGRATS ON YOUR TRIP!!!!! :dance3:

that sounds good...I may try it with regular chocolate though, not a huge fan of white chocolate. I will let you know how they turn out if I do. YUM!

Long time no see Sandy! YAY on the trip!!! I am jealous!
You need to PM me your address please, I have something to send to you!

Well, the dentist agreed. Root canal on that one and probably one other. (But that one is in another part of my mouth and not hurting so I will wait for sure on that one til afterbaby. Not to mention the laundry list of other things she wants to do to me.) The 'good' news is that I have to treat the infection first and it is already feeling better with the antibiotic, so the pain may subside and I can put it off til after the holiday. Crossing my fingers it will wait. I really dont want to have to do the root canal this week if I can help it. Even with my insurance, it is going to cost me $400 out of my pocket including the crown. :scared1: Lots of money to shell out before Christmas.
