Disabled accessible Room Rant

When we made our reservations at POFQ, I checked the rates for our upcoming stay (Sept). The only rooms available were garden and river view with the free disney dining plan.

I knew how much the room cost before I called because I saw the rates on the website. Anyway, when I called, they asked if we had any special requests/accomodations. My partner is deaf and they said they had rooms equipped with visual alarms and notifications. I'm not sure if this is actually a handicap accessible room or if it's just a regular room with the visual notifications installed.

If it is a handicap accessible room for most types of disabilities, we didn't have to pay more for the room which is nice

The purpose of the coded resort was so we didn't have to get the opinions of all who LOVE a certain resort, no matter what. I felt strongly about the XYZ resort until all of this happened, and would defend that resort, no matter what. I thought I knew EVERYTHING about that resort. I was wrong.

XYZ is CBR. The person my daughter & I spoke to is a female - My daughter & I both forget her name momentarily, but she was a very, very nice person. We have her card, but I can't seem to locate it right now. I have looked.

I am NOT the OP - so I have NO IDEA why all of you have been pouncing on me. I have told all as it happened.

Thank you for listening. Now - please listen, not just read & criticize. Again - thank you for listening. :goodvibes

I think people are trying to let you know you received bad information from the CM not that it did not happen as you say.

I KNOW that I received bad info.

I used to have CBR as one of my favorites in my signature, but I removed it due to the instructions that we received for the "preferred" handicapped. I questioned the woman when she told us - and I feel so strongly about the HC issues - that I will NEVER return to this resort - EVER!

We WERE told - last year - that if we needed a HC room - we WOULD get the things we needed ----hand-held shower, bars at tub & toilet, 1st floor (epilepsy), & 2 beds ---- IF WE BOOKED PREFERRED. The instructions were that if we "paid more" they would "give us more".

I have been annoyed about this since. I have stopped going to my favorite resort. I put the truth in this thread, and was accused of lying - or being unable to understand the English language. (I have a Masters degree.)

I guess I have "lost" all around. Thank you to those who have not pounced on me. :goodvibes

When I went to DW in 2010, we took my mom with us so did a bunch of research on HA rooms with roll in showers. So this information may be dated. Anyway, I remember reading that CBR was built before a number of regulations went into effect. So, it has some differences in where the rooms are located and how they are spread out compared to other resorts (built after regulations about these were put into place.) -- (Again, I'm trying to remember from a few years back, so someone chime in if I got my facts wrong.) Now that they charge for everything regarding where your room is (extra if you want a glace at water :)), I'm wondering if the cheapest HA room with a roll in falls into water view or preferred. I tried to enter some dates in their online reservations and that was what I found. There were HA rooms at the standard rate, but none with the roll ins.

If I personally needed a roll in shower, I wouldn't stay at a resort that charged me a minimum of around $25 more a night to have one either. Not when there are other options. And maybe that's why DW doesn't change the situation. Because they aren't legally required to and there are other resorts at that price point we can use. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. Just trying to figure out the logic.

CBR has a number of bookable room categories. Everyone needs to decide what category works best for them. If you book a preferred category then you would pay extra for that and it would be the same price for a handicapped room in that area.

CBR has handicapped rooms located all over the resort. If you would have booked a h/a room in a preferred location you would pay extra for it. The same for a water view.

Sorry the bad information left you with this feeling toward your past favorite. Hopefully soon you will develop a love for a new favorite!

I'm open to new favorites. We'll be at Pop & POFQ in June. We'll be at AoA in August. Notice, no CBR.

These WILL be relaxing, wonderful times. I will have surgery for a compressed spinal cord in August when we return.

We ALL need relaxing, wonderful times. We all need these "magical days".

I feel more loved now - at least more than one person believed me - about what really DID happen. :goodvibes

Have a MAGICAL day!!!!! :goodvibes :grouphug:
