DIS virtual town meeting Part 2

A while back we had a "ask the webmaster" thread, for all the questions people have about how the boards are run etc. Thought it might be time for another one!
Here are the ground rules:

1. We don't debate board policy on the boards. If you have a generic "why don't you allow this" question I will answer that but not "Why was my post on french provincial art deleted yesterday". I will not discuss individual cases.

2. Certain user numbers, visitor total's etc Pete considers proprietary information, but I will tell you that I can't answer that.

So go ahead...fire away....
 
Oh, good! I have a few questions...

... but I'll have to check to make sure they'll make it past the word filter before I post them. :teeth:
 
Are there going to be any new boards soon? Or are there some that they're thinking about bringing?
 
Brerlizzie- there's nothing in the works right now but we are always open to suggestions, several of the new boards were started that way including the photography board and the Gay and Lesbian board
 

Okay--on the family board we have been BEGGING for a homeschool board and most who have sent in suggestions haven't heard anything. So many are interested--but it is tough to keep up an active single thread for such a BROAD topic.

So what gives and what does it take to validate the need for a new board of any topic and the decision process into making one?


And on the WISH Boards--we LOVE our new events board and it took off like wildfire. Noone asked (That i am aware of)--but I guess the mods saw a need--so we thank you for that!
 
I think WebmasterKathy should get top billing because she is the coolest, smartest and most intelligent webmaster of them all.

I know there have been some requests for a homeschool board but not really enough to justify one yet....

Has there been any requests to a Musician/music sub-forum?

No Lisa, there is no magic number, there are actually a lot of other factors that go into determining whether we will create a seperate board. One would be it's relationship to Disney. For example a plus for the photography board was that a lot of people take pictures on vacation.

I think we have a GREAT group of mods on the WISH board, and they are always looking for ways to make that forum better! The events board was the result of those mods recognizing the need and the interest and them then creating that new forum.

Other forum moderating teams have done similar things and reorganized their boards in various ways to make them more exciting, more fun, more useful for the posters there by breaking out or better defining some topics... The Restaurants team created a sub-forum for the Disney Dining program, the Crafts boards reorganized into a Creative Community concept that better highlighted the various topics discussed there, the DVC forums are divided into areas specific for renting points, for learning about buying DVC, and for general DVC and travel discussion, etc...

If you see something that's really working well, let the moderators for that forum know!! In the same vein, share with them any ideas you have for improving those forums. The moderators will then be responsible for fleshing out the ideas and making them happen. :)
 
I understand what you are saying--but that doesn't apply to all the boards unfortunately. So we were just wondering--what we could do that would be make the request valid for consideration.

Not trying to debate or argue or anything ;). Just at the moment cannot think of anything else to ask about. :)

I think a bunch of us did just that when the board came on board.

Well the quickest way to get a new board is to send a check for $432.98 to me, you will even get a free set of Ginzu knives!
 
We were just talking about this on the Disneyland board as well. Poor Disneyland has just the two boards while WDW has soooooooooooo many. :teeth: It would be great for there to be a board for all the other things people want to do in California when they come to visit Disneyland. MaryJo rocks and does a great job of maintaining common question threads at the top of the board. However, because there is just the one board, things tend to slip off the first page quickly and the same things get asked over and over and over again.

Are private messages moderated or seen by anyone other than the person they're sent to?

Not that it's an important question, but I've wondered.. If a posts gets deleted, does it come off of your post count?
