Dis Mom's Club?

Hi all. I just found this thread yesterday and I just finished reading it.

Ok, introductions.

Me: New Disney Fanatic, I am 30 years old and the last time I went to WDW was in '97. It was spring break and I was 17. I am a SAHM and currently planning our first family trip to WDW for Aug 14-21, 2011. I started planning about 3 months ago and have read every book about WDW available at the library. I cannot wait til August so I can book it and get the new Unofficial guide for kids. Me and DH have been together 12 years and married almost 9.

DH: 37 years old. Only time he's been to WDW was about 17 years ago and he only went to MK for 1 day. He's excited about the trip and very greatful I am doing all the planning. Loves all things Star Wars.

DS: 6 years old and this will be his first trip to WDW. He loves all things Star Wars, Batman and Superman. We wanted to go during Star Wars Weekends but don't want to miss school.

DD: 5 years old and this will be her first trip also. She loves all princesses but right now her favorite is Tiana. She plays dress up almost daily and loves to play sports. She would gladly do both at the same time if I would only let her.

Also joining us will be my sister who is 18. She has not gone to WDW since she was about 7.

We are going to stay at POR and drive down so we can stay longer. I am hoping for free dining. :thumbsup2

Had a job interview last week and they called me tonight, saying I got the job and I start orientation on Thursday morning :thumbsup2

This job could not have come at a better time!

Congrats!!! :dance3:

Hoping/saving/planning for a week June 2011 when school lets out.:wizard:

We live in Daytona (howdy neighbor!!) and this is our first trip as a family (Aug2-7). We are also heading back in June 2011. :goodvibes

Hi all. I just found this thread yesterday and I just finished reading it.

:welcome::wave:

On a personal note... I figured out a way to deal with my 2-weeks-left panic attacks and migraines-- I'm 100% packed as of an hour ago. :lmao: Ahhh. I feel much better!

I also got a call from my Assistant Principal today and she's been *trying* to improve my teaching assignment. (so that's good) Last year I had to teach half math/ half Eng... this year 2 sections of senior English, 4 sections of sophomore math. ok, at least it's better than half and half again. :thumbsup2 this is what happens when you are certified in too many things, trying to hold on to the "in jeopardy" Florida teaching positions...

Our family - Dis-Fiance' 46, me 47 (older by 6 months'), step-kids DD 18 & DS 16. We are getting married Dec 2nd in Orlando. We have decided, seeing this will be a 2nd time around for both of us, we would prefer, instead of spending alot of $ at the Wedding Pavilion, we would stay on Disney property, get married at a beautiful estate house from a friend of our's and spend all the money on our guests instead. We reserved Disney's Boardwalk Grand Villa, and will be treating all of our guests to many special events in the 3 days we are all there. :bride::banana:

wets1210: Congratulations on planning your first Disney vacay! Our first onsite stay was when the girls were 3, 5, 7. We stayed at the AKL (which had rooms for 5 then). It is always spoken of as "Our Best Vacation Ever". We went again 2 yrs later & that was the last time, due to economy & arrival of little brother, who I call my 40th birthday present!:rotfl: camsmomE: I must say :worship: to one who teaches! As I have 4 kids, I have great respect for what you do! My oldest will be a junior in high school & she just loves it!:teacher:(especially math) My dd12, going into 7th grade, follows in her footsteps, and the other two, ds4 & dd14, think school's social aspects are great but the rest of it just interferes with their lives: they are my challenge

Just found this tonight and think it is GREAT!

I am a Disney Junkie and so is my DH! We will be celebrating our 10th anniversary in Disney this year- where we also spent our honeymoon. This will be our DD8's 2nd trip and she is so excited to help take part in the planning this go around. We will be going October 30- November 6 and enjoying our 2nd trip to MNSSHP!

Hello, Dis Moms! Had a great beach day with the family yesterday. Hot but gorgeous! We go to New Smyrna because it's my childhood beach. Ate lunch at a little seafood place on the Intercoastal called the Dolphin Riverview. Really good. I had a flounder Reuben: fillet with coleslaw, 1000 island dressing, on a tasty ciabatta roll. You sit at picnic tables or a bar which faces the water, no inside seating, but there was a constant breeze & awnings, so we were comfortable. Very nice just relaxing & watching the boats go by, throwing extra fries into the water for the seagulls :rolleyes1, & we did see several dolphins! Kids loved it!:yay: This is our week off: band camp doesn't start for 2 wks, our Cocoa Beach vacay is 3 wks away; summer school (Driver's Ed:scared1:), summer band practice, Dance camp, & summer dance (SHS Dazzlers) camp are over!!! So this week it's only work, housework:laundy:, & entertaining the troops! And my favorite pastime, Disney dreaming:cloud9:. Hope everyone is having a great summer!

Love this thread!

Heres my Intro :)

Hi all. I just found this thread yesterday and I just finished reading it.

Drumroll please.....

Me: I still love the "magic" at 20! I am a WAHM mom to a little diva. I love Disney, and honestly I'd live there if I could. [in the castle of course!] I love to sew and will def be putting this to use for DD's 1st Disney trip!

DH: Oh what can I say about him? haha. He loves to know how everything works especially stuff at Disney. He always feels the need to share the tidbits, but it kinda ruins it for me :sad2: I do however LOVE the fact that we are both Disney fanatics! We've been talking about DD's first trip since she was born basically.

DD the Diva: She is currently 17m and it has went by way to fast. She loves all things Disney, and when she see the castle on the movies or TV she always says "Go there" I just love it! She is a doll and I cannot wait to see how she reacts to everything!

We are hoping to plan out first trip for October 2011! :woohoo:

We are going to stay at POR and drive down so we can stay longer. I am hoping for free dining.

Oh yeah - we'll be staying in a family suite at All Star Music. And celebrating both the kids birthdays while we are there!!!! Can't wait!!

Love the idea of a mom's thread..

I am mom to three and converted my husband into a Disney-holic - he's got it bad! I had to talk him into his first trip for our honeymoon. LOLm in 9 years of marriage we've been 8 times...you see we missed a year to go to China to adopt our daughter ha ha ha....

Anyway, I run a scrapbooking business part time from home and spend most of my time as a sahm. I'll be homeschooling my daughter for one year, but then she will return to public school next year...what a challenge!

Next trip is this Thanksgiving - our first during a peak time. I grew up going but DH has never been during peak. But I was adamant about not taking my oldest out of school this year.

looking foward to getting to know you all.!

I love a mom's thread...

Intro:

I am a 33 yr. old SAHM. I have been home for the past 1 1/2 and it has been quite an experience. Prior to staying home, I was an event planner. I missed my kids though, so I thought it would be nice to stay home with them. I do miss event planning, so I now focus and planning birthday parties and trips to Disney.

My DH also loves Disney which is great. He is a Director of Finance for a large company so he works alot.

I have two kids...

DD princess: (age 5) an absolute princess and diva all rolled up into one.

DS pirate: (age 2) also loves everything Disney although super heroes also join in the mix in his world.

We are going to Disney in September to celebrate my DS's 3rd birthday and we can't wait. We'll be staying in a Grand Villa at AKL (we're DVC members).

:welcome: to all the new moms.

Sounds like everyone is having a busy summer.

We had a wedding shower on Saturday for the wedding that my DD 5 is in this September. She had a great time bonding with all the bridesmaids and made about 20 new fans. She is such a social butterfly.

We are heading to Northern Wisconsin on Thursday to hand out on the lake and experience nature at its best. Planning on playing in some waterfalls as well. My kids are dare devils so they love the lake with all the toys that are there. I am sure that they will have all of their uncles on the Jet Ski for hours. :rotfl2:

Then my husband and I are celebrating our 10 year anniversary.

We have another trip to Northern Wisconsin in a couple weeks for a family reunion. Then we are heading to Kentucky for a few days to have a vacation before DD starts kindergarten.

Really looking forward to December for my trip to Disney.

Just converted Cameran's crib to toddler bed last night (Oh Lord). I love my DH!:lovestruc He barricaded himself in her room with her for 35 minutes because.. well... it didn't go so well at first, but when she woke up this morning and found that she could get out of bed on her own and get as far as Mommy and Daddy's room before she hit the gate, she was SO happy. So long story, short- We are celebrating big steps this week! :cool1:

We've also started potty training :rotfl:

She had one success the other night, and every time I've assked her to go since, she has replied "nooooo..." :rolleyes1 I haven't given up yet. :thumbsup2

So, what are you ladies up to?

We are starting the potty training thing here too. We did well 4 times but since then he keeps saying no. We'll have to keep trying...

I found the dad's thread a couple months ago, but missed the mom's thread!!!

Here is my info:

I am Elise: 41, married for 15 years to
dhDH(disneyhatingDearHusband) :headache:to be taken literally...Denny: 45
DD Madisen is 14...asked for birthday trip just the two of us when she was 12
DS Westin and DD Jaylen are 10 (twins)
DD Kelden is 3...is a total princess princess: and can't wait to see Cinderella and Mickey Mouse. She knows we are going for Christmas, but has to wait for snow...

Oh yeah, we live in Fargo, North Dakota, where there are 3 phases of winter and one sort of summer....that is another reason I love Disney World...Florida is almost always warmer than North Dakota!!!:lmao:

about every 9 months, my kids start asking "When is our next trip to Disney?"
I don't tell them that I go about every 6 months on my own...:rotfl2:

dhDH hates how expensive it is for us to stay at WDW but is also a hotel snob, and refuses to join DVC, so we pay OOP every trip, and he fails to realize that we could have paid for the DVC by now with the trips we have made if he would have let me buy it 13 years ago, like I wanted to:confused3

We are renting points for Christmas this year, hopefully he will love it so much he will decide that it is time to do it right, after all....and I am excited because I finally get to stay for a whole week!!!:thumbsup2 not just 4 days!!!

I have been known as a Disney Nazi with touring plan in hand, but when you only have 4 days, you need to be on a schedule to get everything in...we tried it without the schedule once, and the kids all said they liked it "Mom's way" better cuz they got to do more rides and see more shows, so we went back to the schedule...they realized that they got to do everything, just not at the exact moment that they wanted to...

But when I go by myself, I slow it down a bit...I think if the kids got to go for longer stays, we wouldn't be in such a rush...but they all want to squish everything in...this trip, we are doing 2 days a MK, so it won't be so rushed, and 2 days at Epcot, so they can play a bit more and we are taking one day off to play in the pool and rest, so we won't be as dog tired as usual, and maybe dhDH won't hate it so much...but when he will only allow us 4 days of vacation because he hates it there, it doesn't allow us any down time...I think this way, he will get to see what I see when I get to go and slow down and ENJOY Disney at a slower pace...without the Nazi :scared1:version of myself...

Elise,

I am sorry your DhDH won't consider joining DVC. I know it's quite an investment but if you work it right, it truly is worth it. When I signed us up for the DVC tour, I never thought my DH would agree to it. He is a Finance Director so money is everything to him. He crunches numbers for days before he agress to anythign. Of course, he didn't agree to DVC on the spot, and crunched numbers for about 2 weeks before he said yes. It's been 4 years now and we love it. We actually purchased even more points last year. Hopefully, he'll change his mind. Where are you staying in December?

Right now we have rented pts from a DVC whose home is VWL, but we want either BCV or BWV, so we are looking at a split stay with waitlist (dhDH kind of screwed that up too by not wanting it when it was available @ 7 mos and then changing his mind this week, and now it might not be avail. anymore...did I mention he is also wishy-washy:lmao:) We have stayed at WL during holidays twice, but have never stayed @ epcot resorts before, so really want it...and are hoping:rolleyes1 that a waitlist will come thru...

I know that DVC is worth it, especially for a family of 6...but dhDH thinks it means you have to go every year...but just the buy in amount wouldn't be enough for our family to have a decent length vacation EVERY year, so we would probably have to bank one year and go every other year...he just can't wrap his head around that...and refuses to go thru the tour....he also won't listen and just turns off when I try and explain it to him...and when I told him that the amount it cost us to rent this week could have paid for 20% of the buy in cost he just got p.o.'d...but it IS Christmas week and a 2 bedroom...and I am making payments over 11 months, as opposed to ONE single payment to the credit card...

Our other big problem is airfare...living in a remote area of the country (we also only have 2 airlines..I don't count Allegiant because they only fly out of Fargo on Thursday and back on Sunday) a good price for us is $450-500 per person...normal is closer to $600..So for our family of 6 is looking at minimum of $2500-$3600 airfair. We can usually get one set of family frequent flier tickets per year, but, again, high demand and low supply means we have to book far in advance, so we have to use them sparingly and for vacations that we KNOW we are going to take.

But we still take some form of vacation every year...This summer we rented an RV and drove thru Yellowstone, this Christmas, Disney, last Christmas we went with his family to Arizona...We always have something in the works...

Hello Neighbor!!
We live about an hour east(ish) from you and we go to Fargo at least once a month.
After reading your two posts I think our DH's must be talking. He thinks DVC means we have to go every year and "there are lots of other places to vacation other than Disney!" :scared1: I tried to explain that we could do it every-other but he thinks we'll be wasting it...:headache:
ANd yes, flying out of Fargo is expensive. We always drive down to the cities but every time we say " next time we're flying out of Fargo no matter how much more it costs!"

It's so fun to have new DISMOMS's and especially ones that have the same weather as I do!!:beach:
And, I have boy/girl twins too!!

Hey everyone! Interesting how so many are celebrating 10th anniversaries this year, did you all get the millennium bug in 2000:lovestruc? Melissa, homeymooner2004, you'll have to post & let us know how the AsMu suites are; I've heard mixed reviews. The family suite is a contender for us for our 2011 visit, but I'd love to be able to do 2 rooms at POFQ instead. To Elise & tinksmom, the Fargo-ites, my kids would be jealous of you guys, you get snow & Disney trips! None of my brood has ever seen the cold, white stuff (so deprived:rolleyes:). Hopefully, though, we will all see WDW next summer. I,too, am a little freaked about going at a "peak" time, but I'm even thinking about later in Aug. to increase the possibility of discounts/free dining:cool2:. I used to always say "we'll never go during summer, we live here we don't have to" , but now we are slaves to school breaks! Gotta go get some sleep now, picking up an extra nightshift tonight, three in a row is painful but the overtime is useful! Pixie dust to all:tink:!

We talked about buying into DVC from the time we first heard about it 10 years ago on our honeymoon. I wish we would have just done it then, and paid a lower price! LOL

But I am so grateful we did it now (well actually 2 years ago), with our own financing, and as of last night, it is paid off - Woo hoo! :cool1:

We didn't know it at the time, but it would be a fateful trip: We had taken a second honeymoon of sorts, after several months of fertility treatments. AFter writing off the last cycle as as yet another bust, we went on our own, and since the kids were with my in laws, *finally* took the tour. We bought because we knew we would be back year after year just based on our history. Turns out it was so totally worth it. I ended up pregnant when we got back, and that child ended up with life threatening food allergies. Having a kitchen now when we travel is a must.

I know Disney is great about that kind of stuff but it makes it hard to relax. I have to trust that the chef made it absolutely clear to everyone in the kitchen that the food must be prepped and cooked and stored in a non-contaminated area, and that the right server grabs the right dish and brings it to our table uncontaminated....scary stuff and more than a little nerve wracking...

Potty training...oh joy. My son was so easy to train - a snap of the fingers really. My daughter? the exact opposite!!!! I still have a year to go for #3 but I am hoping he is like his big brother! LOL
