DIS-functional Wonder Peeps Part III revisited

Middle school! Wow that seems so far away - but I am sure it will be here before you know it! We have Back to School Night tonight. Yippee.

Katie - try not to panic about the teacher. Maybe her DD and the teacher just didn't hit it off. Your DS may think she is the cats meow! I will keep my fingers crossed.

Bets - how is the water damage? Rain over yet? Looks like the Wonder is going out of Ft. Lauderdale today. That would be weird. What if you thought ahead, booked that limo, and were staying at the Radisson - then what do you do??

DD had homework last night - it was a get to know you better kind of thing like the friends email - and one question was "What has been the saddest day of your life" - DD answered - the day you have to get off the Disney Cruise!:thumbsup2
I just knew I loved Carrot! (good name, ophie) I hate those questions though. The answers rip your heart out.

Our back to school night is next week, but we've been at that school for 10 years so I kinda know the drill. It's still nice to go and listen. That way if child comes home with, "but my teacher said we'd ony have homework on Wednesday's" or other such cinderella stories you know the real story.

Not sure I'd like Babs goin' to middle school next year tho. Those 8th graders are BIG. HOOGE, I TELL YOU!

3 of the 4 Croutons left for BuildYourOwnAirplane University yesterday. They made it to Needles (it IS as beautiful as it sounds - if'n you like desert, catci, lizards, snakes.) Today they will get to BYOA U and get that Bob-boy all checked in. Continue to send good thoughts their way.

BuildYourOwnAirplane University ....:lmao: I could have used that when I was stuck at MCO. ;) Hope all is going well for you guys.

Johnna, Carrot is too cute! (Yes, I like "Carrot" too)

The one thing I feel good about with Cam is his friend, our neighbor, is also in his class and this kid is HOOGE. Seriously he looks like hes at least 15 or 16. If Cam sticks with him, I don't think any of the older kids will give them crap. But the teachers, thats another story.

Glad I'm not alone in this middle school stuff. :scared1: We still have 2 weeks so Im not quite in panic mode, but that will be kicking in soon Im sure. I did find out his teachers and I have had a couple people tell me his main teacher is very hard. One (my hairdresser) was devastated that I said he had this one. I guess she was a nightmare for her DD. Her comments scared me big time.

I don't know anything about the teachers at DS's new school (good vs bad) and I don't think we will be given his schedule before school starts. I have heard the principle speak before & he seems like he knows his stuff (has 3 boys of his own). I DO know they put each grade on a separate floor, they have separate lunch periods for each grade and that he has a rotational schedule. That means he will have 7 classes total but only 5 per day for I think 70 min. each. So for example day # 1 they will have periods 1-5. Day # 2 they will start with 2nd period and then have 3, 4, 5, 6 (no 1 or 7). Day # 3 they have periods 3-7 and no 1 or 2 then Day # 4 they start with 4th period and have 4,5,6,7,1 and it just keeps rotating that way. It sounds confusing doesn't it? But they say they pick it up quickly and the theory is that this way if they're not morning people then they don't always have the same class first thing in the morning. Likewise, if they run down by 2:00 they're not always in their most dreaded "let me count the minutes to the bell" class. If that makes any sense. :confused3

Problems with this year for us will be only having 4 min. between classes (he's such a piddler) so he will have to be organized and carry everything he needs for the day until he has time to go to the locker AND the 6th grade lunch period is EARLY (10:30-11:00). I will have to keep track of his schedule to be sure he takes his clarinet on the right day etc.

lunch at 10:30? Yikes! Is breakfast even digested by then?

Dougie's school does a rotation thing too: 1-3-5 then 2-4-6. He likes it but I can never keep track of what days he needs clean gym clothes. (Yeah, I could be a Martha Stewart mom and wash them as soon as he gets home, but, um, that just ain't Phyllis -or Trixie or Bluelah either)

Well, it was an informative / take care of all the crap kind of evening. :thumbsup2 Bought some PE clothes (he will get a 2nd locker for PE too), paid PTA dues, put $ into the cafeteria account, the VP in charge of transportation explained the 30 odd busses...we saw the 2nd floor where the 6th grade will be for everything except lunch & PE, got to practice lockers... Apparently the website has last years lunch schedule on it - they said that this year 6th grade will either go at 11:20 or at 11:50. Sounds better than 10:30 'eh? I know the HS start lunch that early too - 'cuz of the capacity of the lunchrooms. Our MS is only 3 yrs old. Well, I guess this will be the 4th year - it's a nice facility...but it's already over crowded to the point of having 8 portable classrooms! Silly, silly, silly. There are 4 elementary schools feeding into it. One of those was split off of ours 2 years ago - they were in portables by their 2nd year too!! Why can't they build these schools BIG ENOUGH to start with or plan for 2 at a time?! :sad2: We live in SUCH a growth oriented area. There is a "Master Plan" that calls for something like 30,000 new homes in 10 years or something absurd like that right around us. They are building a new elementary school down the road that has everyone in an uproar 'cuz our development will probably get thrown into it - and it feeds into a not-so-good middle school (rough they say). Like there's probably some ankle bracelet material walking around down there. WE should be grandfathered into our MS and won't have that problem but some of our neighbors will. We also feed into a new HS that's only been open 2 years - another really nice school that we want to STAY at!! The crazy thing with these boundries is that we can literally SEE both the MS and the HS from our upstairs windows...but we're rural and there's no sidewalks on the main road to get there so we're get bused. But re-districting COULD mean we would go to the schools that we can't see. :headache:

Redistricting stinks. That almost happened to us and almost our entire neighborhood showed up at a school board meeting to protest. They ended up "moving" another neighborhood instead. Our kids could walk and they wanted to send them to a school that required driving. :confused3

so we have to behave ourselves now.

Hey did anyone else get their Castaway Club gift today? :cool1:

GIFT? Did you say Gift? What gift? :confused3 NO!!

Hi Cam!!!:wave2:

(Ummm...yes...must behave now!):rotfl:

So-o-o I am still waiting on my Tastefully Simple kit to arrive. I was all confused - thought TODAY was the 23rd. That would be wrong. 23rd is tomorrow. FED EX tracking says delivery on the 23rd :rolleyes1 But I went shopping today for some "office supplies"!:rotfl2: Some pens to pass out at parties so people don't have to share  ...a couple solar calculators that have a TAX button (thought that might be handy dandy now that our tax is 6% not 5%), ummm...some clear address labels so I can label my catalogs....oh, and a label maker so I can label my "taster cups" AND most importantly (drum roll please...) a money bag!!:lmao: I think I am going to go ahead & sign up for setting up my own website with them. My sponsor is trying to get me to start out being conservative...but, well, I AM Anal Annie so I can't help myself! The website would allow me to send evites...take credit cards...allow people looking for a consultant to look me up and find me with the search function...and well, it just SEEMS more professional to me.:confused3 I need to decide about my email address tho. It probably makes sense to separate them 'eh? I don't really want two emails...but it makes more sense to have one that's just for business, right? OH SueEllen...what did you do with Thirty-One?! (I don't remember!:scared: )

Thanks guys! Cam will be so excited to see everyone saying Hi to him when he gets home.

Yep, we got a little puzzle of Ducky Williams artwork. I wont give you specifics in case you want to be surprised, but it looks like its a picture of OUR spot ont he beach. (Do you like how that has become "OUR" spot???:goodvibes )

A gift? A present? A free thing in the mail from Disney? YES PLEASE!

(is it the puzzle? We got one a couple of weeks ago)

I wish we had come home with (:rolleyes1 ) some more of those Drink o' the Day glasses. Babs won't share hers. One of her school friends is going in October but I'd feel funny asking the family to "pick up" 5 or so glasses for me.

Yep, the puzzle!

What are the glasses like? We actually didnt get any on this trip because between all the cruise glasses and WDW resort mugs we have, I really have no more space. Let me know what ones you are looking for and Ill see if I have any.

Gift!? What gift!?

Must go get my mail!! But it is too hot. Must not go outside - I might melt.:lmao:

School...bah. Don't get me started. Thinking of moving DD to a charter school. Wish the taxes I pay actually went towards programs my child could benefit from. That's all I'm gonna say about that.

So - who is doing something fun this weekend!!?? Soccer team pics tomorrow morning. Should be a good time. Then BBQ with the neighbors. Always a good time. And DD has a Girl Scout thing tomorrow night. Cheetah Girls movie premiere dontcha know. Very excited about that.

Anyone else??

Got the puzzle the other day too. A nice little reminder of the cruise.

Hi Cam! Glad to see you on here.

Redistricting--we are doing that this year. They are building a new elementary school in our county, and it is going to double the capacity of the school it is replacing. I'm on the redistricting committee. Our first meeting is in two weeks.

Sucks--I'm sick. I have an ear infection (ear drum burst the other day--first time in many, many, many years that this has happened to me.) I thought I just had a sinus infection to begin with. Well, that's how it started, and now it's much, much worse. I've been on a brand new antibiotic for a couple of days now, but not feeling the love yet. waaaahhhh

Well, I'm off to try to finish up a few things, and then to bed. I'm tired of being sick.

Sue Ellen
