Greetings from the land of storms, lightning, rain and thunder, this is suppose to last till friday

Candy - wow, I cant believe you have to have all these people at your house. I sure hope everyone pitches in to help you while they are there. I dont think I could deal with all those people and 1 bathroom. Hmm, maybe you need a bathroom fastpass system? But it sounds like the party plans are coming along. Your dd is like me, my favorite color is blue.

Linda - I am so sorry about Gus. I am sure its hard on everyone. I remember our guinea pig died on Thanksgiving, we were late for church, some guy asked us why we were late(not nicely) and littlest ds said, its my worst thanisgiving ever. Even dh and I cried.

Well ds19 thinks he did good on the a and p final but told the professor he doesnt know if he put his name on the paper. Ds21 doesnt know how he did in physics. He is not a good student and should study more.

I will start packing tomm.

I personally think we should plan. Are you getting in Friday evening Sha?

Lisa, how are you?

yes, Friday evening... sometime after work. Guess I should start to think about packing! LOL (must wear a different shirt than last time I saw Laurie (so others think I have other clothes)

Patsmom, when are you arriving?

If possible would love to meet up with you on Friday at MK or Saturday evening at EPCOT, maybe for Illumuniations.

Sha, you are a beautiful lady regardless of what clothes you choose.

I will be the one with lightweight clothes. I am kind of dreading the heat. It has been lower temos and lower humidity here for a few days and I am trying to bask in it.

Need to pack too, but I am also working tomorrow. Not sure how I am going to deal with catching that plane Thursday morning.

Why thank you! It will be warmer this weekend than it has been in the last few days, but last weekend wasn't horrible at all. Wonderful breeze on Sunday. Either of those two work (or even both)... am going to take a glance at park hours now to kind of plan ahead.

Looking forward to seeing you!

LMP going to send you my cell phone number.

My team name has been decided.... Hakuna Ma Ta-tas. I think I am just going to use it for both walks. I am excited as I have wanted to do these for a couple years since the few of us met up at WDW to do it. I know for sure Mom will be with me in Orlando for that one. I told her we would push her around in the w/c for that one. I learned that teams have to be a 10 minimum, but also can include those who don't make it or do the "sleep in" for a cure. Can hardly wait!!!

Love the team name. It was one of my top two.

Is October 16th the definite date of the race? I did not think they decided it so early last time?

Hi everyone! Sorry I have been MIA for the past few days, but I've been in a whirlwind.

A family friend came to see me on Sunday (he always brings me Holy Communion) and he told me that he and his oldest son were making an unexpected trip to WDW/Fort Wilderness on Monday of this week. I told him I wish I could go with them since I have really been in need of a WDW fix and have been desperate to get out of the house. After a little discussion he said I could hitch a ride to Orlando with them if I wanted to. I called Meg and asked her if she wanted some company and could I possibly stay with her for a few days this week. She checked with her roommate and they both told me it was fine. So, she met us for lunch at Earl of Sandwich and the four of us hung out at Downtown Disney on Monday. I was surprised at how much energy I had and really had a nice time.

Yesterday, Meg took our friends and one of her UCF friend to Magic Kingdom (I still have an AP). We were just mosying down Main Street because our friends were interested in all the trivia knowledge we have of all things Disney. We had just pointed out Walt Disney's window at the end of Main Street to them and were explaining why it was there when a Cast Member came over to us and told us he was amazed we knew it was there. I proceeded to tell him that I love all things regarding WDW and that I have been going there multiple times a year since we moved to Florida in 1972 when I was 12. He then asked if we were staying for the parade and I told him we would if I lasted that long. He then asked us if we wanted to be the Grand Marshalls for the 3 o'clock parade! Meg and I were speechless! I told him I'd been wanting it to do that since my very first visit and Meg said she'd been trying to get it since she was four years old. Needless to say, it was incredible. I can't even describe how much fun it was - especially the reaction from children when you talked to them along the parade route. It was priceless and now I can scratch that off my Bucket List.

Those of you who are friends with me on Facebook can see the photos a bit later today. I will try to have Meg post some of them on here later today.

Unfortunately, I will be heading home on Thursday so I won't get to meet up with those of you heading to WDW this week. Meg is looking forward to seeing some of you at Splash Mountain when she's working this weekend. By the way, I did manage to go on Splash with her yesterday and was amazed by all the things she pointed out to me that I'd never noticed before. And yes, I made it through the drop without having a wig malfunction. ;)

Lisa, your trip sounds awesome. I'm glad you got to go. Just what you needed. That's so neat that you guys were picked to be Grand Marshals! I bet it was a great experience. Nice to hear things went so well! :) :goodvibes

Good morning ladies

Lisa - Wow, what a magical, wonderful and amazing experience you had!! I cant wait to see your pictures. I am soooooo happy you got to go to the world and that you are having a great time. That is the best medicine for sure!! Double doses of joy and happiness!! Did they give you mouse ears to wear in the parade? What time did they pick you? I thought I read once they do it before 10 am? Tell us your dining experiences too!! I am soooo happy for you sista!!!! Have a magical time:) Also I know yoiu said Meg has to pass a test in 2 weeks, but she still gets to work now? I did read another poster say how they had 3 newbie castmembers on the Jungle Cruise last week and they thought they did a terrible job. I usually have the attitude that everyone has to learn sometime, so I just am patient.

Sha and Laurie - my color scheme for clothing is blue and black.

Candy - I hope your ds gets the externship. Sounds like a great opportunity.

It was so stormy last night. I also think I am going to get some bug spray. I read how some lady said her ds was eaten alive last week.

Thanks Laurie and Linda... funny thing too, my ex BF from 15+/- years ago came up with it! When I said that it was the winner, he asked what he won. I told him he won the B**bie prize :goodvibes (not sure if that is a censored word here)

Will watch for everyone wearing blue and black LMP! ;)

Laurie they did release the date and this is about the time they did it last year. The site is open to register now. I have the team listed but just haven't gotten to do any links etc. Will take care of that soon though. I am excited about it and was told by a contracted co-worker that she will walk at one or both!

Lisa love that you had this experience... maybe I will keep it in mind some day to try! LOL Wish you were there when we are there! Course, I wish a lot of others were there.

I hope you all don't mind me coming here to ask a question.

I just found out that my favorite cousin was diagnosed with breast cancer and recently underwent surgery for it. She returned home today. I do not know anything beyond that like what kind of surgery she had or what her treatment from here looks like. Her mother and grandmother both died of ovarian cancer and I know that the two are linked and this has sort of been looming over her and her sister. They both (thanfully) tested negative for the BRCA gene. My father says he thinks they caught it early, so everything seems very hopeful.

My question is: what can I do for her? I plan to send her a card asap. She lives in Virginia and I am in Missouri, so I can't help her out with anything physical. I have head scarves from when I shaved my head for St. Baldrick's, so I thought of offering those to her, but don't know if that would be too forward. I don't know yet if she is even undergoing chemo.

What can I do to help her without making a nuisance of myself? What did you all wish your relatives did or did not do when you were initially diagnosed? Thanks!

I think just conveying the sense that you care is immensely helpful. Cards are great. I had some people who sent me cards regularly, which, to me, was quite impressive because I myself am terrible about sending cards. I happen to like E Cards but I know some people don't. If she's older and/or maybe not computer savvy, maybe you could offer to help put an email list together so she can send out updates easily, if that's something she plans to do. Some people do Caring Bridge, I think it's called. I thought food was very helpful since I could not do much cooking myself. Since you're not there, maybe a GC for a chain restaurant to put in the card would be helpful? Another thing is maybe a comfy nightgown or pjs if you want to send something. (I'd probably hold off on scarves for now, a) you're not sure that will be an issue and b) most women are very particular about what they do for their bald heads during chemo because of appearance but also comfort.) One of the favorite things I bought myself was a luxurious hand cream that I kept in my nightstand and used a lot when I was in bed. I think it helped relax me (aromatherapy!). If you look around online, there are stores and websites where you can buy gifts for people undergoing cancer treatment. I don't know any names off hand. The American Cancer Society might have links on their website. I'm sure others here will have ideas also. Thanks for caring about what she's going through!

eeyores's butterfly - you are so sweet to care about your cousin so much. I loved getting cards. I am a card person for sure, like getting and sending them. My long distance relatives sent cards and one sent flowers. I was not too thrilled about that since I am so allergic. I think I would have appreciated some comfy pjs, my aunt sent me some but they wre not too comfy and I think I would have liked the restraunt gift cards too. It makes it one less thing to worry about. I had meals from my church family 3 days a week but when I had a drs. appt. that would have helped etc. Maybe a journal/notebook for drs. visits, info etc. Some funny dvds etc.Best of luck to your cousin

Cheryl - how are you doing? I your dd working in the culinary industry when she is hme for the summer? I am sure you will be so glad to have her around.

Linda - love the pictures of Remy! He is a cutie. He is a he right?? I think that little prayer was nice for the kids. Your dds scrapbook is so sweet too.

Well tomm. we will be in the happiest place on earth. I am definetely going to take it easy. Now my L knee hurts. Packing is in progress. What a chore. I am washing dh stuff but he likes to pack himself. I will just watch what he puts in etc. I probably could use some more summer shirts. I barely shopped for the whole year with the 7 operations.

Dh is brining the laptop so I will keep in touch.

Eeyore's BF- I know when I was ill. Meals helped and gift cards to restaurants was the best! Not only for me but for my husband who took care of me. They were great when taking care of me and the kids was time consuming and he could just run out and bring home dinner. I am sure she wouldn't mind hearing your voice either! A short phone call would brighten my spirits at times. I hope the best for your cousin.

LMP-:yay::banana::yay: Have fun!!!!! Take it easy! You deserve this trip!

Sha-:rotfl2: re ****ie Prize. Good one. You too have fun!

PNM-How's the pool coming along?

Snappy- How are you? Any updates?

Lisa, Annie Patsmom- Hope you are feeling well.

Both for me actually... I want my niece to see Wishes tonight and Illuminations tomorrow. And would be great if we could get over to DHS for the later fantasmic..... which me might if we walk over there.

Plus, if I may... would like to get a picture of the 4 survivors (mom included) for my walk in October... for the page I have now. If its okay with you all. Will discuss it later though.

Will add a link to my siggy later too

Hi-hope its ok if I ask a question or two here!
The past 6 weeks has been a whirlwind in our house. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and has a mastectomy on one breast and a lumpectomy on the other. She is 82 years old and came through the surgery with no problem-she was walking around the hospital just hours after her surgery (and sleepwalking aroud it the whole night too LOL!)
She felt much better the first 10 days after surgery than she does now- now she has much more pain that she did-is that normal and how long until that goes away?
The hospital was so nice- the breast center gave her this nice bag filled with movie tickets, a gift cert for a facial, a gift cert for a make over, candles, candy, books and other things. The day after her sugery the breast people came to her room and brought her two camisoles to wear until she gets fitted for her new bras-how long until you feel comfortable enough to wear these new bras?
The day after she was diagnosed my daughter decided that we needed to do relay for life so we have a team formed and they kids are making our team banner---pink with hands all over it that say "helping hands for breast cancer". In each hand each team member is going to write the name oftheir loved one in there either in memory of or in honor of. My daughter is looking so forward to her grandmother walking around in that survivors lap!
