DIS Boards VMK Mapping Project.

Taking the idea behind the thread "Do you live close to any VMK'ers?" to its next logical progression I've set up a Frappr map for us.

Frappr: DIS Boards VMK

Frappr is based on the Google Map API. So if you use Google maps it will look very familiar. It lets you set up a group and then group members can plot their location on the map.

=== A REMINDER ABOUT PERSONAL INFORMATION ===

We want to keep our kids safe. Please keep in mind that personal information that you provide on the Frappr map is public. Here are just a few things that you may want to consider:

1) Don't use your real name. Post your DIS Board ID instead.

2) You can fine tune your location on the map down to the street level. Don't do that.

3) Keep your location as general as possible. You may even want to put in the location of the nearest metropolitan area instead of your own home town.

4) You can post pictures on the map but consider the public nature of this forum and the map before you do (especially if your pictures include minors).

Our map is not linked through the main Frappr site. You can't find by searching there. To my knowledge the only way to get to the map is through these boards. So have fun and be safe!

I don't actually live where it says, but they did not have my village where I do live, so it's the closest place!

Hi everyone

We are not closing this thread because the DIS allows you to add you location to your tag.

BUT

While I know it is a fun thing to play with, we have far too many children on the VMK board and posting their city and state is just alittle to much info for them to be giving out. I know some will say it is like finding a needle in a haystack but not if you are a predator and you search a members every thread for clues and hints.


Please consider safety when starting and posting threads and read this safety reminder.

You, of course, are correct and I thought about that very issue before I set it up. I looked at things like tags and the previously mentioned thread and figured that most people on this board where cautious about personal information and wouldn't fine tune it to the street level anyway. It doesn't hurt to be reminded though.

I'll put a caution and a link to your safety post at the top of this thread and on the Frappr page. Of course, if you would sleep easier if it were gone altogether then slip me a PM and it will quietly disappear.

Most adults are but we have alot of young adults and children on the VMK boards and they are not so much.

There are several threads actually that while fun I do worry about for safety reasons.
