Direct Flights - Thomson Dreamliner v Virgin & MCO v Sanford

We flew on the Dreamliner to LA in July and it was fabulous. We were in the UC cabin but I went for a wander around and the whole plane looks great. It just appears more spacious and of course the mood lighting certainly helps.

Was that the Virgin Dreamliner? It looks so good!

The Thomson one pales in comparison a little I think

We have recently come back from our first dreamliner flight with thomson(normally we fly with virgin) and here are my views

Plane itself- virtually the same but guess Dreamliner is a touch newer so not as worn. However inflight movies etc was limited selection also some movies were only for inbound/outbound. Food was as good as each other but you don't get a choice with Thomson

Airline- Thomson baggage allowance was the worst, we lost out on 16kg (split between hand luggage and checked bags) compared to what you get standard on virgin. They were very strict which caught us offguard. We had very heavy pockets on the way home!!!

Flight times- Thomson is limited but you get an early flight out but an earlier flight back. We like the choice with virgin and prefer a little longer on last day

Airport- Mco is a great airport with lots of shopping and food choices. Sanford not so much, it's the worst I have ever seen at an airport. Literally the longest 2hours of our lives! I will say it was straight forward getting to our transfer at Sanford. However on getting the coach we were made to listen to about 20mins of sales talk from the rep. For us we want to get going asap and so this really wound us up!!!

But overall if they cost the same we would fly virgin every time but this year with Thomson it saved us around £1000 so can't complain!!! I think it always comes down to budget

Bit late to the party but you can't book seats until 90 days out. We looked at going PE on the Dreamliner as the saving was about £3,000 compared to virgin PE (family of 6) but there's no way I'd want to wait until 90 days out to get our seats. The idea of being split up fills me with dread!

With VA we got our seats together the second we bought the tickets (11 months out)

That's a good shout, our son will be 2 and the wife is a terrible flyer - she would flip out if we are all split up.
